Thanks Lynn,
Although very familiar with State,County,Parrish and city record research here in U.S., I'm unsure of where to look for same records in England. Years ago I was doing my research in U.S. sitting next to another who was 1st generation from England and observed her success in finding her ancestors in the LDS microfisch records. Of course she knew where to look. I do my research here with an Atlas at hand so I can see the locations I'm researching and the families progress across the frontier. Here it's sometimes like looking for a needle in a haystack..ha
I'm still trying to find the vital statistic records for the "West Floridas" under British rule in the 1780's before it was given to Spain (Florida,Georgia& Mississippi)

William and Martha Clare of Ibstock, Leicestershire

Hello,

I am looking for help regarding my ancestor Martha Insley and her family. She was b. ca. 1803 in Shackerstone, Leicestershire and married a William Clare of Ibstock, also in Leicestershire.

William (1781-1850) was older than his wife and they had three sons together according to my information from the UK 1851 census - John, b.ca. 1827, William, b. ca. 1831 and Thomas b. ca. 1844.

William Clare died in 1850, and his wife and three sons are still living in Ibstock 1 year later. She is a grocer and druggist and her elder son John seems to be a farmer of 90 acres.

My problem/question is what happened to Martha and her sons subsequently.

I can find no death records for them, nor a re-marriage record for Martha. I have looked at alternative spellings of the name such as "Claire" and am now trying to investigate if they emigrated. Does anyone have any further information on this family?

I look forward to hearing from you

Thanks

Who is the 2d wife of Timothy Clare (Cleare) ca. 1660-1724

Timothy Clare (Cleare) was born by 1660, (presumably at least 25 when - on 6, 3mo (May) 1685, he declared his intent to marry, as his 2d wife, Mary Bundy) to Will (William) Cleare & died before 10/17 Nov 1724, when his will was proved in Perquimans Co., NC. Mary BUNDY Clare, dau. of William & Elizabeth Bundy, who died 30 Dec 1694. Timothy married (1) date unknown, probably before coming to NC, Elizabeth, (the widow Pearre/Pierce/ Perry?) who is said to have borne him no children. Winslow later says that the unnamed wife of John Pierce was dau. of Joseph & Mary
Scott & that she m. (2) William Bundy; the father of Mary BUNDY Clare.
Elizabeth died & Timothy married (3) after 2 Feb 1703/04, when, as Hannah Snellen, she acknowleged a deed of gift to her daughters, Hannah LAWRENCE Snelling; who bore him one
daughter, Hannah.
In his will, Timothy names his 3d wife, Hannah; daughters, Mary Mayo, Elizabeth Winslow, Sarah White, Jane Jessop, Hepzibah Perry, & Hannah Cleare; and no sons. History of Perquimans county ... Ellen Goode Rawlings Winslow, 1931, cites Timothy's will & says Hepzibah Perry is thought to be a step-daughter of Timothy. Abstracts of North Carolina Wills, NC Secretary of State, calls her Hepzibah Berry & doesn't say step-daughter. Winslow later says, "The will of
Timothy Clare is authority for the fact that said Jacob Perry m Hepzibath dau of said Clare (step-daughter) and it is thought, but not proven that she was a dau of his 2d wife Elizabeth - (maiden name unknown)". Jacob Perry is not
mentioned in Timothy's will.
That Hepzibah was dear to Timothy is shown by her being willed "land, formerly Simpsons, 200a, whereon she now lives.".

Answer the same questions about Amelia Clare & how she is tied to Bethanal Green. William's father could be Peter or Thomas. They lived Rose & Crown yard in 1851 and I think they married at St. Elphin's. If youcome accross any info. Thier other children were Mary Ann, Esther, William & Eliza. I thin Peter died in infancy. I would be grateful for any info you may come accross.

Deb,
Did you get your info on the spelling from original or transcribed documents ? The calligraphy of earlier documents can often be misread by the unschooled. I have seen this happen within my own extended family where an E at the end of a Sur name has been transcribed as a Y. Another thing to consider is WHO related the information to your source. If the informant was unrelated, they could be spelling phonetically. Spelling Clare with a K would indicate to me a German or Scandinavian origin. Pennsylvania has a large Dutch & German population. Many things to take into consideration.
Claudia

Thanks for the information Claudia. I have found Susan's parents, but that's as far back as I could get. I've found the name spelled Klahr, Klaer, Klair, Klare, and Clare. I have found death notices and marriage announcements with the Klair spelling, so that is the spelling I have chosen to use for now. When I first posted this message, I went by the spelling in Susan's obituary. There still could be a connection. I'll have to look into it further.

Deb Stanish
Reading, PA

They sailed to Philidelphia, Penn in 1713/14. . Their children were William, John, Esther, George and Elizabeth.
I've done no research in the UK on the family prior to this time.
Claudia Clare
Now living in Florida
Frances,
My 6th great grandparents were William Clare and Esther Peacock who left Northwich, Cheshire Co., England in 1713/14 and sailed to Philidelphia, Penn. USA. Of course there was a serious disagreement with papa George before the USA was added. William was a shoemaker and Esther was a minister of the Friendly Meeting (Quakers)She returned to Ireland and England again to pursue her ministry. She did return to the Colonies. Their children were William, John, Esther, George and Elizabeth.
Of course the family has grown. I've done no research in the UK on the family prior to this time. So I don't know if our family is connected to Thomas. My father did take part in the CLARE FAMILY DNA test that was done at one of your Universities and found that we share a common 1st ancestor with 2 families in the UK. I didn't get any more info in that direction and the 2 involved knew less about their Clare ancestors than I did. Let me know if any of this information is helpful.
Claudia Clare

James,
Sorry I haven't been back for some time and didn't see your post. I think you are looking for the Clare Family that moved from Virginia to Kentucky and then Missouri. I believe there is a Mudd in their family. In fact there is a published book on the Mudd family that is quite large that included the Clares from Missouri. Research in Montgomery County, Mo. Genealogy.com: Midwest Pioneers, 1600-1800. Check your Genealogy Libary section for the book on the Mudd Family. Good luck.

Reseach into my own Clare line led me to my 6th great grandparents, William Clare and Esther Peacock, who came to Philadelphia in 1713/14 from Northwich,Cheshire Co., England. He was a shoemaker and she a minister in the Quaker church. Their children were William, John, Esther, George and Elizabeth. My family decended from George's son, George, in Mississipi. There's undoubtely a large number of decendants of this family in Penn. and possibly New Jersey. My information came to me because of a correspondence from my 3rd great aunt, Abija, to her Van Sciever Aunt. The Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania has data on the Clare Family. Hope this helps you with your search.
Claudia Clare
