I have some information about George Claridge from 1841 and 1851 Census
Birth 1776 in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England
Death Jul 1855 in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

I believe he married Martha Maine in 1815 and ran a school in Banbury

Would be great to know if you have any more information about him

Charles Claridge was my great grandfather. I have a picture of him with wife Dora. I also have a picture of Josiah Claridge.the pictures I have were given to me by my great aunt.(My grandfather's - Mark Hanna Claridge-sister) Dora's mother died when she was about 2 I understand. She went home to her grandparents the Highfills until her father remarried. I also have a picture of them.

James Owen Claridge

James married Flora Elizabeth Annie Dray on 11th September 1927 at St Matthews in Willesden, Middlesex. His father was a labourer called George Claridge and James would be born circa 1902. The most likely birth is in 1901 in Brill, Buckinghamshire (and according to the 1911 census his father was called George) - is anybody researching the Claridges from Brill,Bucks and could confirm either way whether I have the right James please? I think the family you are looking for are Albert Henry Claridge and Mary Ann Fletcher who married in Binfield in 1898. In 1911 the family are living in Wokingham Union Workhouse, Wokingham, Berkshire and are as follows:-
Albert Henry age 50 (farm labourer), Mary Ann age 30, Agnes age 11 (school),Ada age 8,Jane age 4,Edward age 2 and Albert Henry age 6 months.If you would like me to email you a copy of the census then let me know

John Claridge 1820 - 1861, TN, IL, MO

I am looking for information on John CLARIDGE who was born around 1819 in either TN or IL. Actually, I’m more interested in his widow, Mahala (DAVIS?) GUESS CLARIDGE, who is my ancestor, but I’m stuck on her so I’m working from a different angle. The CLARIDGE story looks interesting. I will work backwards with what I know about him.

Mahala CLARIDGE married Samuel AUSTIN in Jersey County, IL in September, 1861. That means that John CLARIDGE was probably dead by that time.

John CLARIDGE was living in Stoddard County, Missouri in 1860. According to the census, he was 41 years old from Illinois and was living with his presumed family: wife, Mahala, and her children from a previous marriage: Andrew J, Leander, Sarah, and Nancy GUESS. John and Mahala are indexed as “Cleroge”, and the children are “Geuss”. (Note: Also in 1860, there was a Samuel AUSTIN ((see above)) living near both James and Josiah CLARIDGE in Jersey County, IL.)

John “Clasage” married Mrs. Manala GUESS in Butler County, Missouri, in June of 1859.

This may be the same John CLARIDGE who lived in Jersey County, IL when the 1850 census was taken. John W. CLARIDGE was 29 from Tennessee and living with presumed wife, Lucretia. The CLARIDGE children in the household are Amelia (14), Emiline (6), and Mildred (5/12); and laborer, Wiley ROWDEN. Presumed brother, Josiah CLARIDGE (age 30 from TN) was listed in the household before John.

John W. CLARIDGE married Lucretia STARKWEATHER in Jersey County, IL in May, 1848. However, there is also record of a marriage of John M. CLARIDGE marrying Lucretia STARKWEATHER in Calhoun County, IL in September 1846. Since there are different locations, dates, and middle initials, these must be different John CLARIDGEs. For that matter, they may be different Lucretia STARKWEATHERs!

I would love to find out more about this (or maybe these) CLARIDGE family. Is this more than one family? Have I connected the dots correctly or am I finding what I want to find?

My name is Arthur John Cockfield. My mother was Patricia Yvonne Claridge, tne daughter of Herbert James Claridge. She married my father Arthur John Cockfield in Toronto in 1937. My sister Sandra Patricia Yvonne Peters(nee Cockfield) was born in Nassau on 4 May, 1938. I was born in Nassau on 5 June 1941. We returned to Canada in 1943. I am looking for information on a James Halliwell who was a cousin, I think, of my dad Charles E Claridge. I think my dad visited him in Canada in the late 60's or 70's. An earlier address I have from a birthday book is: 308 Sackville St. Toronto. Another address is: 15-11-20 36 Pen St. Bolton Lancashire Eng. The birth date is May 18th. NO YEAR GIVEN.

This information was from my Grandmother Amelia Esselmann Claridge born in 12th May 1882 In Loyal, Clark Cty WI.d. 22 Apr 1951. Her husband was George A Claridge b. 2 June 1878 White Mound WI.
d. 21 Nov. 1946 Reedsburg WI.

Yes, their are Claridge's out there, greetings from one in Australia. If your Claridge's were in Hunningham, My John born abt 1754 married an Elizabeth Everton in 1788, and a great grandson came to Australia with his brother. John's family records show varies same towns in Warwick, at present trying to connect with one in Northamptionshire. Does this help, any connection with this John to your request. I just saw this post, Dec. 2009. I am related also to Leonora Sarah Claridge Armstrong. She was the sister of my grandfather Wilfred Claridge. She was born about 1892 and Married John Armstrong in 1915. Her father was John James Claridge born 1870 in Bromsgrove, England and died in 1940. and her mother was Emma Caroline Styler born in Birminham, England in 1868 and died in 1949. James Claridge, b in England, m Harriet Mary Farrington on Dec 21, 1842. One child William Farrington Claridge b in Nassau, m Cornelia Elizabeth French b May 4, 1862 in St. Anne's Parish, m Feb 14, 1880. Had 6 children, Nathanial Hugh, Herbert, Fredrick, Kate, Emmy, and Doris. Herbert had 2 children, Fanny and Patricia....I have a notation that Patricia was connected to one Arthur Cockfield.....

Thomas Claridge, a resident of Shelburne for 23 years, died Friday of last week after an illness of a few weeks' duration. He was 70. Deceased was born in Chinguacousy Township in 1836 of English parentage, his parents having coming to America from Oxfordshire, England, in 1811. He was married to Miss Elizabeth McDonald, of Caledon Township and had he lived would have celebrated the golden wedding anniversary next October.

Marriage to Maurice Macpherson. Latter Generations of the Macphersons and Hardy's added Earnest, as a First Name, a Brother, of Beatrice. They B & Maurice, Where Married on the Isle of White.

I'm not sure, but as a Claridge, who's common family given names, having an uncle Ernest. We have traced from where our first Claridge landed here. Here name was Beatrice. If you would like to please reply and I will give you better info on this.

Deaths of William & Emma Claridge ?

This family moved to Cape Town from Hanwell, Middlesex, England after the birth of their daughter Elizabeth Mary Emma in 1877. Elizabeth married Edgar Percy Freeman(my grandfather,and an Australian) in Capetown in 1901 and they had moved to Victoria, Australia by the time of the birth of their first child in 1907. I am unable to trace the following years for William & Emma Claridge, and do not know where and when they died.There is no record of them being in Australia after 1901 or England after 1877. William's father was Robert Claridge and Emma's father was Richard Roberts.
Can anyone help ?

My paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Mary Emma Claridge.Father William, Mother Emma Roberts, came from Hanwell, Middlesex, England. Moved to Capetown South Africa after 1876. Had a sweets shop there. My paternal grandmother Edgar Percy Freeman met and married Elizabeth Mary Emma Claridge in Capetown, they married there in 1902 then moved to Australia.My maiden name is Freeman, live in Beachport South Australia. Am hoping to find out what happened to William and Emma Claridge. Did they stay on South Africa ? and when & where did they die.
