CLARK in Chatham Co NC

I have a Delilah CLARK b. 1819 in nearby Orange Co NC, m. 1834 in Chatham Co. Aside from her marriage record I can find nothing in public records; she told my dad her mother was Rebecca Pearson but we never heard the dad's name. It would take a great leap to connect her to your Thomas as a brother or cousin but I have looked so long and never found a connection to any other CLARK in the area; at least yours is the right time to be a possibility. Do you have the names of the sons who fought for the confederacy? My CLARK m. John Petty and moved to Indiana and later Minnesota. Their 12 children included sons named Isaac Newton, Hezekiah CLARK, John Lewis, William Stephen, Marion Douglas and Abraham Lincoln Petty. Due to the practice of naming children to honor relatives I thought there could be a clue in there (I have female names too but since you mentioned only males that is why I did so.)and I am especially curious about the Hezekiah CLARK Petty. There was a Hezekiah CLARK in the 1840 census either in Chatham or Orange Co. I can't find my note on that and my index is at work.

Sorry, I could not find Delilah in any of my files. Thomas J's 5 boys in the Confederate Army were: Mebane(or Mabane) J.; Manley; W. Henry; J. Brantley; and Marion B.

Have an outlined history of some Clarks and am doing a search to see if related. Those names, John and William, are used repeatedly in my lineage. The biblical name is somewhat familiar. The name Petty is also. Will write asap. Patsy PS. My father's mom was Nannie Rae Clark

I have read the book from my family located in Kentucky. Here is what I have found out.
John Clark Jr was awarded land from his father estate in Garrard County, Kentucky. His mother, Nelly, was related to James Clark of Orange County, NC. This maybe a link to our family as the records repeatedly mention Lawyers in N

Wm. Clark married a Mary Comley from Orange County, NC. In the estate papers, which I have a copy of, lists several Pettys. Am going to research more.

The book I am reading is entitled: "ON THE BANKS OF SUGAR CREEK:A COLLECTION OF DATA ON THE CLARK FAMILY OF GARRARD COUNTY, KENTUCKY." By Judith McCulley CLARK.
It is in reading the information on the branch of John and Eleanor CLARK (counsin or niece) of Orange County, North Carolina, that I find a reference to an H.C. Clark. In the author's reference to a William born between 1760 and 1770 (census records)the 7th child of John and Eleanor CLARK, that she notes that H.C.Clark's records place his birth in 1774. She remarked that he could have gotten his information from his father's records. I am trying to find out who this H. C. Clark is. I will contact her since she is a cousin. Sorry for the delay, but I still think we might be cousins. Patsy Ann Jones Haverkamp (father's mom was CLARK

H.C. CLark of NC

Patsy, this sounds promising. Please see if your cousin, the author, would know if H.C. could have been Hezekiah. His birth year could have him possibly an older father to my Delilah (only a year older than my father was when I was born) or a very young grandfather. I had some contact with a Marion Clark who is a banker in Hillsborough, NC, whose Clarks were originally from the Chapel Hill area. He had two Clark relatives who had fought in the Revolution in NC. We were not able to establish a kinship in the one morning we conversed.--Linda, eager to find cousins

Hi, Linda. I just came accross your post and was curious to see if you show any Dunnams marrying Clarks. I have William Sidney Dunnam marrying Eunice Agnes Edna Dunnam, probably around 1882-1890. They lived in Huntsville, Texas and Houston. I've been told that William S. Clark was born in Baltimore, MD, but his siblings were supposedly born in England. I have almost no other info - but thought it was interesting that you have Clarks and Dunhams in your family, too.

No I don't know of any Clarks marrying Dunnams or Dunhams in my family, but I have just the one known Clark, from North Carolina. My husband's Dunhams were from NJ pre-Revolution then Canada, Minnesota, Montana and WA state.
