Orpha (Clark) Loyd Sawyer Collins Fulford 1842-1917 Hyde Co., NC > Beaufort Co., NC

Orpha CLARK, b. Oct 1842 Hyde Co., NC, d. 27 Feb 1917 Bath Twp., Beaufort Co., NC. Orpha was the daughter of William & Polly CLARK, according to her certificate of death.

From what I can piece together (and it is possible that … gasp … I’m in error), it would appear that William CLARK d. prior to 1850. In that census, there is a Polly CLARK, aged 36, with a young female, Alafarrow or Alliefare CLARK, aged 4, residing at the Hyde county poor house. In that same county, Orpha CLARK is living within the Wm. & Peggy SMITH household.

I cannot locate Polly CLARK or Orpha CLARK in 1860. However, there is an Ally FARROW, aged 14, living with Wm. & Belinda SMITH.

In 1870 Currituck Twp., Hyde Co., Orpha appears to be married to James LOYD and has a daughter, Elizabeth, aged 1. Same year, same county, but in Lake Landing twp., D. CLARK, aged 17 is listed as the head of the household including Polly CLARK, 60, Alafarrow CLARK, 25, and Willis CLARK, 4. This is the last that I find of Polly and Alafarrow.

Orpha SAWYER is living as a boarder in the James LOYED household in 1880 Pantego Twp., Beaufort Co. - James LOYED’s wife is listed as Clarissa. This is confusing to me - a different James LOY(E)D or Orpha's previous husband?

Orpha remains in Beaufort Co., NC until her death in 1917. She married Junius FULFORD, b. Jan 1845 in 1895.

According to the 1910 census, Orpha had been married 4 times and had given birth to 5 children, with 1 still living. This living child was Seleta Mobile COLLINS, b. 21 Dec 1880 and married Eppa Augustus CORNELIUS.

I’m attempting to ascertain the names of Orpha’s 4 husbands. I believe them to be 1. James LOYED m. abt 1868; 2. James SAWYER m. Nov 1876 div. 1883; 3. Joseph or Jacob COLLINS, m. abt 1883; 4. Junius FULFORD m. abt 1895. I’d like to find info to prove or disprove these marriages.

I’m also interested in any information pertaining to William and Polly CLARK.

She married Lewis Pierson of Morris County, NJ. on 27 Jan 1824 in Newark New Jersey. She was listed as being from Newark, Essex County, NJ. They resided in Lambertville NJ most of their lives. He was a Tinsmith. They had three children George, Jane and Clark. Family rumor is that she was related to the DOI signer Abraham Clark. Any info would greatly be appreciated.....

On Wednesday, January 18th, at 4 p.m. At the residence of A. M. Switzer of Lincoln township, Mr. Harry Lyman and Miss. Sadie M. Clark were joined together in holy matrimony by the Rev. J. A. Holmes, pastor of the Elmer M. E. church. The young bride and groom are well and favorably known in Lincoln and Reno townships, the former being the ward of A. M. Switzer, at whose beautiful and hospitable home the nuptials were celebrated. After the ceremony congratulations were in order, when the many guests were invited to an elegant and sumptuous repast which was presided over by the amiable host and his estimable wife. The wedding presents were numerous and beautiful.

Among the guests present were: Mr. And Mrs. E. Lyman, Mr. And Mrs. Frank Lewis, Mr. And Mrs. J. A. Curtis, Mr. And Mrs. P. E. Switzer, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Knause, Mr. And Mrs. Chas. Huffman, Mr. And Mrs. F. Lyman, Mr. And Mrs. John Clark, Mrs. Bowman, E. A. Benham, Frank Lyman and L. B. Switzer.

Mrs Julia Clark of Denver, Colo., one of the thirty
licensed women aviators in the United States, was
killed while making a practice flight in a biplane
at the state fair grounds Monday night. Her machine
brushed a tree as she ascended and toppling, crashed
to the ground. The young woman's skull was
fractured. She died soon after being rushed to a
hospital.

I am seeking information on Minnie Clark and Charles Frederick Dando. These are my GG-grandparents. Charles was born 18 Aug 1872 in Orland, IN. He met Minnie Clark in the area of Harlem, MT. They were both working on an Indian reservation. Minnie was cooking for 70 children. Charles was teaching them to lay bricks. Charles and Minnie married in 1902 and had three children: Alice b. 12 Jan 1904, Gaylord b. 1905, and Mary b. Jan 1907. All of the children were born in Kendall MT. Minnie must have died in childbirth or within several years, because Charles was remarried to Martha Myra Roberts on 4 Nov 1910.

My name is Anna Lee Britt-Porter. My grandmother Maggie Clark was also a daughter of Jay T. Clark and Mary Aline Scott-Clark. Maggie married Wm. Earl Britt in 1915. Maggie and Earl were my father's parents. I have quite abit of info re. Clark family, along w/ pictures and I'm willing to share. I would really enjoy connecting with anyone else out there wanting to talk/share info about Clark history.
To be sure we are talking about the same Jay T clark.
His parents were John F(?) Clark and his mother was Mary A Timpson. Jay T. was born May 22, 1855. His Native American name is Jayhew Tecumseh. I also have a cronological history written by Maggie re: births/deaths of the Clark family. Which has been very helpful in my research.

Jacob Clark [0001] and Rachel Wollam [0002] Family

This is the story of Jacob Clark and Rachel Ullom, as of March 17, 2008. All information needs to be confirmed.

Jacob Clark was born in Pennsylvania, probably in Somerset or Greene County; on January 22, 1799; it needs to be determined exactly where. He married Rachel Ullom (Wollam, Olm, Ulm, Wollen, etc.). Rachel was born May 5 1802, probably in Somerset or Greene County Pennsylvania.

We believe that he was born and married in or near Greene County, Pennsylvania. This is because there are two censuses for 1820 that make sense, one in Somerset County and the other Greene County. Greene County looks most promising because of (1) the proximity of the Ullum and Clark families, (2) the age of Jacob Clark and his spouse, and the number of family members in his household.

We believe Jacob was in Pennsylvania for 1820 census is because his daughter Nancy Clark says in two of her later census entries that she was born in Pennsylvania and online people have her birthday March 1st 1821 in Pennsylvania.

We believe that they moved to Anderson Township, Hamilton County, Ohio soon after Nancy’s birth on March 1st 1821 because the next child, Mary Clark, said she was born March 15th 1822 in Ohio. The only 1830 census found that fits the family is in Anderson Township, Hamilton County, Ohio.

We believe that the family moved to Harrison County, Indiana between the 1830 census taken in Anderson Township, Hamilton County, Ohio, on which the Jacob Clark family is annotated, and the death of their son James Clark on June 23 1832. The timing of this move is a safe assumption because James is buried in his parents’ plot in Palmyra, Harrison County, Indiana, and not in Ohio (because this James is buried with Jacob and Rachel we can assume that he is their son).

In June 2008 Joe Henderson commissioned the Historical and Genealogical Society of Somerset County Pennsylvania to do research on our Jacob and Rachel. Here's an excerpt from the librarian's letter:
"July 25, 2008

Dear Joe,
I have checked the Clark Family File for Jacob Clark, who married Rachel Ullom, and was unable to locate any information. We do not have a Family History on the Clark Family. I have checked the Church Records that we have for the 1795-1800 time period as [sic] was unable to locate any other that the one [Jacob Clark, not our ancestor] born in 1796..."

My g-g-grandfather was Dr. Andrew Franklin Clark. He is buried in Waldo, Columbia, Arkansas. Many of his descendents are still in the area. In the 1880 census, he & his wife - Maggie Ann Carlock - & 6 children were living in what is now Cleveland Co., AR. He served in an AR regiment during Civil War. The census shows d.o.b "abt. 1837" in Tennessee.
It also shows his father's birthplace as TN & his mother's as S.C. I can't find him in Tennessee!! Does anyone know who his parents were?? Please help!!

Caleb was born we think in Rhode Island as he married Lydia Eddy there in 1790. Other researchers indicate that his father was a William Clark and mother was Mary Unknown but I can't seem to track them. Does this look familiar to anyone??

Sgt. Michael K. Clark, 24, of Sacramento, Calif., died Oct. 7 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when he encountered small arms fire while on dismounted patrol. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

In 1885 he was 52 yrs old.

He married Carrie Beaty, Elwood some where in between 1880 & 1885.

I'm searching for info on John Clark b. 1793-4 in NH possibly in Peterborough.

Served in the War of 1812 enlisted in 1815 at Greenfield, NH

1830 Census has him living in Peterborough NH with his wife her name is unknown and 2 sons and 1 daughter all under 5 yrs old.

1832 had a son named Stephen who married Mary M Childs (b 1832)in Palmer, MA in 1854.

Stephen died a POW in the Civil War.

I am looking for parents of Ann Clark, born 1840 in possibly Sussex Co, England. Married Horace Wallis 1868 in Frant, Sussex Co, England, had son Horace W. Wallis 1869 in Turnbridge Wells, Sussex Co, England. Came to the United States 1870 & settled in Greenbush Twp, Warren Co, IL. Moved to Liberty Center Twp, Warren Co, Iowa in 1895 & is buried ther in 1928.
I see other folks looking for Clark's in Sussex England, so I hope to hear something positive.
