Just wanted to add another two names for Hemochromatosis - McCloskey's and Brown's from the Killymard Parish of Donegal Ireland. I have been gene tested and have one of the genes - however which ancestor passed it on I do not know. They were my Grandparents on my Mother's side. The O'Flaherty's side seems fine at the moment.
Hi Christina...I just happened on your posting..you are right on with my family line..Alexander was my paternal gf. I have researched the family quite aa bit. I have no idea how far your effort has succeeded. The paternal line extends back to England..then Gibraltar...Clinton in Sampson county, North Carolina (Civil War etc.) then to St. Louis and Decatur, Illinois as you say..I was born in Decatur in 1930..Alexander had four children; tow sons and two daughters..Let me know if I can help.
Wow..this got sidetracked..yes, we are definitely related..distant cousins..my paternal gf was a brother to Joseph (Joe). The Civil War shattered the family in Clinton. By some means my gf found his way west to Cincy briefly and then to St. Louis..He married Mary Byrnes (she was originally from Cincy) They moved from St. Louis to Decatur in central Illinois..children: two boys and two girls..tragically the girls, one son, and the father (my gf) died of TB in the plague that existed then. My father was the only one of the children to have offspring..my brother and I...I live In Brighton, Michigan just north of Ann Arbor..82 y.o...hope that his has been helpful Jim Clarkson

Re: Manoah Clarkson - Breckinridge KY

I just started researching this family, and today found this death certificate from their daughter:

DEATH CERTIFICATE:MO State Board of Health #13740 Miss Mildred Susan Clarkson; Father Manoh Clarkson b. Lynchburg, VA; Mother Lucy Dejarnette b. Charlottesville, VA; Died of Bronchio-Pneumonia; Buried Dalton, MO Thomas J. Clarkson signed death certificate. She was born in 1838

There are a few Manoah Clarkson's, so it gets confusing.

An 1850 census in Breckinridge, KY shows Menoah and Lucy living with 7 children including Mary, Judy, Mildred, Killis, Andrew, Sarah, and Martha.

By 1880, Lucy is a widow living in Bowling Green, Chariton Mo with son Thomas J, also Mildred, Andrew P, and Martha.

Thats all I have so far. I'm sure there's lots more. But signing off for tonite.

Seems to be a very good family with long lines back to VA.

Good Luck

I would like to help you but cannot connect family lines yet. The Thomas M. Clarkson of Clinton in Sampson county North Carolina U.S.A. was born in Gibraltar in 1812. His father was a schoolteacher from Great Britain..have record of father in U.S.A. but no records to lead back in to England. I have not found the given name of Roy yet. It makes sense that Thomas M. had brothers and/or sisters..but they have not turned up in my record searches. Good luck Jim Clarkson

My name is James Clarkson. You mention David Clarkson. I have a nephew of that name in Ohio. Thomas M. Clarkson of Clinton in Sampson N.C. is my gggrf on my paternal side.I have traced the line back through Gibraltar to England. The father of Thomas M. was a teacher. After he immigrated to US he fell on bad times and was in Poor House in Clinton. Before the Civil War the family lived on their farm about 12 miles sw of Clinton,N.C.I have accummulated quite a bit of info. It would be ornerous to try to type it all I will make copies and mail them to you. Then I will help you further if you wish after that document base is in your hands. I live in Brighton, Michigan, just north of AnnArbor. My email is jacl@sbcglobal.net let me know.

I visited the Antietam Battlefield Natl Park and walked the Sunken Road area where they fought..that's quite a feeling. My info on Thos M post war is zilch. I did turn over a report that he wandered away from a military hospital..location not known (Natl Archives)Before the war Thomas M had a farm sw of Clinton. Go to http;//www.anomalist.com/reports/fleshblood.html..I will send you more info on the Thomas M family and my branch connection in seperate email tomorrow in exchange for the info on your branch..deal?
Would be interested in anything about Thomas M Clarkson and further back. I do know that Thomas M and first son Thomas N served in the Sampson Rangers - Co. A, 30th NC Infantry, CSA. Both wounded at Sharpsburg; Thomas N buried there.

Joseph H is my great-great-grandfather. His only son, Thomas Alexander Clarkson, was born 7/11/1871 (five months after marriage - oops). Joseph H and (we believe) Thomas M are both buried in City Cemetery, Nashville TN. May have been interred by another relative with the surname Cornelius.

That's all I've been able to find out past what we both knew last fall. Hope to hear from you again.

Irealize that it has been some time since your posting. Still your info interests me.My family research connects with thename of Thos M Clarkson..born in Gibraltar..he brought up a family of sevean children in Clinton (Sampson cty) N.C. The 5th child,Joseph H. was born in 1851 He married Fannie A. Dixon in Wilmington on 2-1-1871. I have quite a bit more info on the Thomas M. Clarkson line. Your info appears to extend the line further if there is a connect. The Civil War blew the family apart as it did so many others. Await your reply Jim Clarkson jacl@sbcglobal.net

I can tell you a little about them but not much.

James Clarkson married Mary Ann Booth at Manchester Collegiate Church in 1832.

There's a birth registered in 1842 in Preston of a James Clarkson, mother's name Booth. Since Clarkson is a very common name in the Preston area this may be another James.

There's another possible child Esther bap. February 1834 at Blackley.

I have found some photos of a Ida M. Clarkson b. 1853 d. 1925 and her husband Samuel Sproul b. 1857 d. 1895 according to information I found on FindAGrave in an antique store. Since the photos had so more information that I felt could be helpful to someone researching this line, I decided to buy these photos, however, there were more of this line in the antique store which is located in Temecula, CA. If someone is researching this line and would like these photos then I would be more than happy to reunite them with family. You can contact me at rue2u2@msn.com. I will post them on FindAGrave.

Paula

My email address is taddclarkson@yahoo.com - I will reply here in case others can make further use of this thread, but I will send additional info as I come across it via email. Most of what I have right now comes out of a single letter from my grandmother; additional family resources are on their way to me.

I am told my gggf was named Joe; the publication "Haddock's Wilmington (NC) Directory" for 1871 lists a Joseph Clarkson, clerk at Brock and Webb, residing on Front Street below Market. My ggf, Thomas Alexander Clarkson, was born 1871 in Wilmington and the family moved to Nashville TN 1871-2.

The Wilson name intrigues me as well. My ggf TAC married Bessie Wilson of Nashville in 1902. Family story is that Bessie's father was born in India to James Wilson, who was an early Presbyterian missionary there. Let me know if that sounds like your Wilsons and I'll pass along that info as well.

I have a strong suspicion that we are related. My middle name is Alexander. My father was Alexander Wilson Clarkson. He had a brother named Thomas who had no children. Their father, my paternal gf was also a Thomas W. Clarkson , born in the Clinton,N.C.( Sampson) area, moved to St. Louis where he married Mary Brynes. In due course they moved to Decatur, Illinois. My paternal ggf was Thomas and I believe he married a Wilson. One of the children born in Clinton was a son who moved to Wilmington and married there. One or more moved to Texas. There is a Civil War story. How do I contact you? My address is Jacl@sbcglobal.net...Jim Clarkson Brighton, Michigan

My G-Grandfather TAC I was born 7/11/1871 in Wilmington NC to Joe and Fanny Dickson Clarkson (family legend is that TAC I was named for his grandfather - who was born at Gibraltar to a British Navy man). Joe moved his family to Nashville TN in the mid 1870's and died shortly thereafter (family legend says killed in a bar fight - hit in the head with a cuspidor). TAC I worked for the NC&StL railroad for 65 years, died 1956, TAC II (1910-1998) lived and died in Nashville, TAC III (1937-) lives in Nashville.

Any help moving back in time along this line would be greatly appreciated.

Bowes is only 3.6 miles from Startforth, your best bet is to use google maps.
I don't have any info on I.O.M I'm afraid. I used to think Clarkson was an uncommon name but not any more they come out of the woodwork like ants after sugar.

Yes, it seems it is in the same "neck of the woods". Seems like there are a lot of Clarkson's in that area. A little additional info. on my end, I found out that the register says she (Mary Anne Thompson) was of Bowes and he (George Clarkson) was from Startforth, do you have any info. on this Startforth area? ( I do not know the area well at all, it seems confusing as I have found it may have been part of North Riding Yorkshire back then but may now be part of Durham.) I do know that by 1829 they are on Isle of Man where there son George William was born, and then on to the U.S. by 1830/31. I know there is a John Clarkson and wife Eliz. Dawson nearby on the Isle of Man at that time, not sure if they are connected. It is cool that you are able to go back that far. thanks.

I know he was involved in church meetings with Mrs. Ingham of Mirfield, where they met at Blake Hall to begin with. I look forward to hearing anything of detail available, or could I be connected with a records office where this information would be available. Thank you

You must have seen a very old post to get the Wampuckett. It was misreading by the person who published the marriage records for Green County, MO. Later on, I talked with a researcher in MO genealogy and she had found the Puckett family and a daughter named Flora Wayne.....So my records in Rootsweb and Ancestry should have Flora Wayne Puckett. I will double check and make sure.

1850 St Clair, MO, dist 79, pg 138
John Clarkson wm44farmerKY
Flora Wayne "wf43TN
Sarah Ann "wf10MO
Lovinawf 7MO
Benj.
I am not related to this person, his obituary appeared in the "100 Years Ago Today" column in the North Vernon (IN) Plain Dealer on 2-28-2011 for 12-23-1911. I thought it might be of help to someone.

Clarkson Death

John E., son of John W. and Harriet Clarkson, born in North Vernon on Jan. 24, 1870.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Luella. Surviving are siblings: James W. of Columbus; Rev. George W., Cecil and Mrs. Ovid Matthews of Brewersville; Mrs. Matilda Emery of Marion; Mrs. Everett Stout of Dupont and Mrs. Fred Abbott of Sulphur Springs, Texas.

He was married to Francis Ricket on Oct. 30, 1889, and they have four children: Mrs. Ben Amsden of Blotcher; Zelpha, Olen and Mary at home.

He died at his home two miles from Antioch. After eight weeks of hard battle with disease he bade good bye to all that is temporal and passed into the eternal Sunday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at 41 years, 18 days.

His life was of hard manual labor. He, by his open hearted ways, had won a huge circle of friends. In his boyhood days he gave his life to God and the church but afterward became a prodigal.

Near the close of his life he came to himself and found himself in great want and said, "I will arise and go to my Father" and those who were by his bed in his last days and hours have assurance that he got the best robe and a ring on his finger and shoes on his feet.

The funeral occurred Tues., Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. at Union Bethel. The remains were laid to rest in Bear Creek Cemetery.

I can provide limited info on Olie, Joe, Leslie, Letcher, Lawrence, and Melvin.
