John Thomas Clements b. June 7, 1827 d. Feb 5, 1901 Kentucky

CORRECTION: This John Thomas Clements did not marry Unknown Newman in October of 1845. Unfortunately, the bride's name is not mentioned in the marriage bond. This marriage bond was for John Thomas Clements born abt 1810 and bride Priscilla Hagan. Benjamin Hagan was the father of Priscilla and he was deceased by 1845. George Newman was the brother-in-law of Priscilla - he had married her sister Mary Magdaline 20 Feb 1832 and I have attached that marriage bond as proof. Also attached is the marriage bond for John Thomas Clements and Priscilla Hagan. Please note that FamilySearch lists the bride as Ginger Bowman for this particular bond, yet another mistake. This bond states "Age of woman proven by Geo. Newman" and is signed by George Newman. John Thomas Clements (born abt. 1810) was previously married to Elizabeth Cissell and had several children with her before marrying Priscilla. John and Priscilla moved to Daviess Co KY where he was a blacksmith and died before the 1880 census. Priscilla died in October of 1885. They were my GGgrandparents.

We are seeking information on the parents of John Clements. He was born around 1825 in South Carolina. He married Jane Margaret Churchwell and later married Melinda Fulton.

Children of John and Jane are:
John Wilson Clements
Mary Elizabeth Clements
Tennessee Armenta Clements
James S Clements
Zebel T Clements
Sarah Misseline Clements

A descendant of Sarah Misseline wrote:

Misseline's father, John, came to Chewalla as a boy. He got a job and lived there till his death. He never spoke of his father, only his mother and a sister. He didn't have a middle name nor did she (Misseline) know the name in South Carolina that he came from. Misseline was 4 when her mother Jane M. Churchwell Clements died. John and Jane's house burned in 1868 so all the bible records were lost.

Andrew & Priscilla Clements

I am looking for information on Birth and Marriage Records from Canada for Andrew & Priscilla Clements, and their daughter Elisabeth Ann Clements.

There is a record for Andrew Clements arriving on the Ship "Meteor" from Bridgewater to Boston on 15 Apr 1870. He was 44 years old, born about 1826, and traveleed with James Clements, age 18; and Stephen Clements, age 24. Charles Fowler, age 18, and David Fowler, age 27 were also on board the "Meteor"

Elisabeth Clements was born about Apr 1854 in New Brunswick, Canada. Elisabeth arrived on the Ship "Meteor" in May of 1872, from Bridgewater to Boston.

A few years after arriving, on 1 Sep 1875 in Lynn, Massachusetts, Elisabeth Ann Clements she married Charles Fowler, born in Nova Scotia, Canada about 1850, and probably the Charles on board the Meteor with Andrew. Elisabeth's parents are listed as Andrew & Priscilla on the Marriage Record.

Any information on this family would be appreciated.

Deborah

Hello,

This may be completely off the mark but my grandfather was Jack D Clements, born Olin Clements in North Carolina in 1906. His father was Ira Clements. Ira's wife was supposedly Hattie Davie. When Jack's name was Olin he was married in NC and fathered two sons. He changed his name and moved to Kansas, married my grandmother Emma G Younkin.

Could we be looking for the same people? I can't find anything on Olin.

thanks

susan

Martha Jane Locke Clements was marrried to Simeon Simon Clements. They lived in Gibson Co Tn. When he died in 1877 she and two of her Children go to Anderson Co TX and on the same day acquire three marriage licenses and marry on the same day. She married Franklin Alexander Warden. How did they know each other and why would she and two of her children move to TX from TN. Were they related? They lived in Cherokee Co, Tx until death. Big Big mystery. Under the history of John Weley Hardin there is a mention of his Clements cousins in Cherokee Co. no proof. Stephen Gay Clements married M.E. Morrow and Nannie E Clements Morrow married John Walker. We have Clements, Hardin,& Morrow - how are they connected??

I saw online in an old query where you indicated that you'd found the gravesites for H. Percy Bloom, Margaretta Taggart Bloom and James Roy Vincent. Your posts indicate that the graves were at Westminster Cemetery in Philadelphia but I am having problems locating information on this cemetery. I am only able to find one in Montgomery County.

I am a descendant of Blance Vincent Osborne, sister to Margaretta Taggart Vincent Bloom. I've been trying to locate Margaretta "Retta's" and James R Vincent's graves for years. Can you please advise the cemetery in which they are buried?
No, John Thomas was bound out to Henry Pool. That indenture was the key document showing me that his father was William ("infant orphan of William decd"). The age and occupation stated in the indenture are match also.

If you look at guardianship records, many of them will show a child (well, always a male heir) being bound out. I saw one lately where the child was 3 years old and was bound out to a man until the age of 21 to learn farming.

As an aside, John's son Alfred was nicknamed Poolie, which is verified in a census where his name shows up as Poolie. Henry Pool and wife Susan Hagan (John's second wife was Priscilla Hagan) are in Daviess Co by 1850 and John Thomas follows him there within a few years. Several of John's other siblings also go to Daviess Co (near or in Owensboro and Philpott). This group hung out together.

So you are the same Debbie you has sent me E-mail about William being bound to Henry Poole? I can't always tell who is who on these message boards.

It would be very helpful if I could determine with accuracy when Bazil went to Indiana. He's not there on the 1820 Martin census but his sons start marrying there in 1824. Martin was formed from Daviess county (mostly) in 1820. I'll have to check their census to see if he's there in 1820

Yes, brother William A. Clements. I've seen him listed in trees as William H., but the documents I'm looking at are written by Raphael Lancaster you can tell the middle initial is an "A". His handwriting is very nice. It's been a struggle getting over the brick wall, but this has to be the way the line runs. That might explain the other earlier tree, I sort of left is alone to see it I would loop back to Jacob, but that's not the case. So I will have to delete some information and connect some of the collateral lines in later. It appears that no one is researching the John Thomas Clements of my line except for a couple of my cousins. I wrote to you previously about this, but now I am sure we're onto the right line. The Clements DNA Project proves my family is from John/Elizabeth Clements. I would have thought my tree would show up in your member connect section.

Well I found the info at the Veteran's website: http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/j2ee/servlet/NGL_v1
before Ancestry included their info, so the error would have to be there but your point about him being long dead is a good one. I tried to view your other tree but I think the server is having a problem. When I clicked on names it kept telling me to check back soon. It looks like you are descended from Bazil's brother, William. Is that correct?

I think you may have been on the wrong tree (Clements Family). That first tree was a "false start" - long story when I thought Jacob was the ancestor. I may in time get it corrected. Find my Clements-Dant Families Maryland to Kentucky tree.

The father was never with the son in Indiana since he was long since dead (1804). The will was called out in court by December in 1804 by the witnesses after the death of Bennett Hanson and that is an addendum at the end of the will. In checking the list of names provided by Martin County, Bennett Hanson is not mentioned in the list from Crane. I don't just search through Ancestry. I found the estate inventory for Bennett Hanson just yesterday on FamilySearch and will need to transcribe that. I also search using Google, Google Books (out of print bios, etc.), eBay, etc. Most of the later digitals on my tree come from microfilm or FamilySearch. I believe someone inputed incorrect information on Ancestry (the Department of Veterans Affairs info) - after all, there is such a thing as "human error". Right?

The record comes from the Department of Veterans Affairs. I am comfortable with its veracity. Perhaps Bazil brought his father to live with him at the close of his life. Was there real property in Maryland to dispose of when Bennett II died?

I looked at your media collection and you've done a wonderful job with it. I went through it twice and found the will for Jacob Clements, but did not see a will for Bennett Hanson Clements. Did I miss it?

Actually, I'm not confused about that detail. Yes, Bazil is buried on the Crane Naval Station. However, the military headstone for Bennet H Clements d. 1804 was sent to St. Joseph Cemetery, Brable [sic] Martin, Indiana. The record is here at Ancestry. Check it out. I would love to have a copy of Bennet's will. Could you possisbly upload one here, or send me a scan to my E-mail address: carmaskid@charter.net? It would save me the task of writing to Maryland.

Updated info: Since I wrote that message I have learned that the list of children for Bazil Clements comes from the probate records for his estate. All his children and grandchildren are listed. They do not include anyone named "Thomas Clements."

You are confused on the resting place of Bennett Hanson Clements. It is Bazel who is buried in IN at the Crane Naval Station.
See -
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Cl...;

The headstone says Bazel Clements was b. 16 Jan 1770 d. 2 Nov 1848. Bennett Hanson died in Montgomery Co Md, I have a digital copy of the two paged Will and I transcribed directly from the image. I am sure he must be buried there.
