Sarah Ann's parents were James Alexander Coats and Mary Ann "Polly" Parks. James A. parents were M. D. And Mary "Blind Mary" Coats. I have no more above them and not much else about them. Marriage of Ann Coats & Samuel Nye Barlow, 1815, Essex Co., NY

Ann Coats/Coates married Samuel Nye Barlow on April 23, 1815, according to Ann’s own testimony. She did not, however, state where they were married nor who her parents were.
Samuel was the son of Timothy Barlow and Elizabeth “Betsey” Smith; the family was enumerated in the 1810 and 1820 U.S. censuses in Ticonderoga, Essex Co., NY. Two Coates families were enumerated in Ticonderoga in the same censuses: William Coates and Mariane/Marvin Coates. Could either of these be Ann’s family?
Ann also stated that she and Samuel were married by “Esquire Arthur,” a justice of the peace. Francis Arthur is listed in the 1810 census in Ticonderoga; Francis Arthur appears again in the 1820 census in Ticonderoga, as do 3 additional Arthur family listings. Could there be a record of the Ann Coats – Samuel Nye Barlow marriage in (Ticonderoga,) Essex County, NY?

Mary Coats, b. 1730?, VA->NC

I am seeking information on the origins, family and ancestors of Mary Coats, probably born in Virginia around 1725-35. She met and married the Reverend George McNiel either in Virginia or in Moore County, NC about 1750-55. They eventually settled in Wilkes, County, NC.

With George, she had 9 children--Mary, John, William, James, Benjamin, Joseph, Elizabeth, Polly and Thomas--between the unknown date of their marriage and 1782, when Thomas (last child) was born.

She is presumed to have died and be buried in Wilkes County, NC sometime after 1782. I am descended from her fourth child, James McNiel.

Any information would be appreciated.

Timothy and Charity Coats of Norfolk Co., Ontario

Timothy appeared in the Windham Twp, Norfolk Co., Ontario census in 1851 in the household of his parents Cyrus and Phoebe. Siblings Daniel, Justus, Philip, Phoebe and others appeared in the household. By 1861, Timothy was married to Charity Ann, and they lived with their children Preston and Sarah in the houshold with Tim's mother, and a couple of other siblings. Tim and Charity's family appeared in the Windham census' in 1871, 1881, and 1891 too.

Their children were Preston b. abt 1857, Sarah b. abt 1860, Wellington b. abt 1862, Timothy Jr. b. abt 1866, Hezekiah b. abt 1868, and Ruby b. abt 1871.

Preston married Mary Teeple/Temple, Wellington married Mary Edith Chrysler, and Hezekiah married Bertha Morgan. All those couples spent at least some time in the Windham area. Father Timothy (1830 - 1 Mar 1900) and mother Charity (4 June 1827 - 21 May 1922) are both buried in Windham near Timothy's father Cyrus. Wellington and his wife are buried in Windham also.
I would like to hear from any descendants of these families, or anyone with any more information about them.

The 1820 Milford, Otsego, NY census lists John Yager and these neighboring households: Jacob Yager, David Yager, Solomon Yager, James Coats, John S. Yager, Adam Yager, Wilhelmus Yager and Daniel Yager. David A. Coats married Sylvia J. Yager, the daughter of Philip Yager and the granddaughter of Solomon Yager mentioned above. Could David A. Coats be the son of James Coats? David A. Coats was born in NY 16 Sep 1810 and died 27 Dec 1875 in Grayson County, KY. Several Coats households lived in Otsego at this time.

I'm trying to find information about my mother's family. I need to
find or confirm the line going back from Hezekiah coats (born about
1843, died 1/25/1916) son of Burwell Coats and his wife Mary norris.
Burwell died in Wilmington NC 8/26/63 of typhoid fever while in
confederate army .

Burwell may have been the son of William Coats and Anna Blackman.

William may have been the son of John Coats, about whom I have no
other information.

I'd appreciate any information you may have on these lines.

I have a Coates / Coats branch in my family tree. I believe they were Crown Loyalists who left the newly formed U.S.A. in the early 1800's, and re-settled in Ontario.
I am looking for anybody with information on family members from the area between London and Toronto. My Coates ancestors had been soldiers/militia members in the American Colonies.
There was a Zebulon Coates who was in Niagara Co., New York by 1824, when it was still a wilderness area. His son Cyrus was born about 1790, likely in Niagara County.
I believe Cyrus was the father of my gr gr Grandfather Phillip Coates who was born 1842, probably in Ontario.
I have located the family on the 1851 census in Windham Twp, Norfolk Co., Ontario.
Cyrus died in 1853 and is buried in Windham, which is between Brantford and the Long Point area. His wife Phoebe appeared in the 1861 and 1871 Windham census', living with her unmarried son Daniel.
Another son of Cyrus and Phoebe, Timothy married Charity and they raised a large family in Windham. Their family used the spelling 'Coats'. Timothy died in Windham in 1900 and is buried there. Charity died in 1922 and is also buried in Windham. Timothy and Charity's children were: Preston, Wellington, Timothy, Hezakiah, and Ruby. The children were born from 1857 to 1871.
1)Preston Coats (b. abt 1857) married Mary Elizabeth Temple and had children, Martha, Tabitha, and Frederick Lorne Coates. This family remained in Norfolk Co. through 1887 at least, at which time, I lose track of them.
2)Wellington Coats (b. 1861) married Mary Edith Chrysler. Their children were Samuel and Gertrude. Wellington raised his family on the same farm that his parents raised him in Windham. He eventually sold the land to the Windham Plantation Company in 1929. Wellington died in 1936 and is buried in nearby Vanessa, Ontario.
3)Timothy Coats Jr. remained single, I think.
4) Hezekiah Coats (b. abt. 1868) married Bertha Morgan. They had a son Roy b. in Windham in 1897, but I do not know anything more about this family.
5)Ruby Coats married Levi Hunt and they appeared in the 1901 Windham census with adoped children Martha and Timothy. I'm assuming the children took the last name Hunt.
I would like very much to meet any descendants of the family of Timothy and Charity Coats, or anybody who can teach me more about them.
It was Timothy's brother Phillip who was my great Grandfather. Phillip married Isabella Fuller, likely near Sarnia where they raised a large family before moving to Michigan, U.S.A. in 1899. I have quite a bit of information about that branch of the family.
I have reached a road block regarding the other children of Cyrus (b. abt 1790) and Phoebe Coats. The writing on the census records is not very clear, but I believe they had children named Daniel, David, Timothy, Justus, Dennis?, Benjamin?, Phillip, and Phebe/Mary. I am seeking anybody that is researching Coates / Coats family members in southern Ontario, who may have a connection to this family.

Coats - early 1800's, Vermont and New York

Looking for any information on a Coats family in Vermont and/or New york state in the 1810 to 1840's time frame. My ggg-granfather, Peter A. Coats, was supposedly born in 1816 in Vermont. He was in Bureau county Illinois by 1842 when he married Eliza Manville. Eliza was the daughter of Isaac Manville, formerly of New York state. I don't know if the Manville family and Peter Coats came to Illinois at the same time or not, but it is known the Isaac Coats and family was living near Peru, Illinois in the 1840's, and that he went to California as part of the gold rush circa 1849. I have been unable to find any information on Peter Coats' ancestry and/or siblings. It is known that Peter and his wife Eliza visited California in the 1850's, and that Eliza supposedly died there.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!! I have information on Peter Coats and his descendants to share.

This album was found in Olympia, Washington and is in fair condition. The pictures are mostly unlabeled and some are older family pictures. On the back of the album there are a few paper articles pasted: Magnuson-Coats wedding; Mrs. A.S. Coates and daughters returned...; Flag Raising at Coats Mill; Albert S. Have not been able to locate him or family members on 1920 census. Looking for information on Mary Jane Coats, born in VA (now WV). She was supposed to have been the mother of William Lewis Wade, born approx 1870. His death certificate lists his parents as Mary Jane Coats and Coss Wade. He may have been illegitimate. I can not find him in the 1880 census anywhere. He lived in Wetzel County, WV most of his life.

I have a Jean Coats 'b' 22 August 1800 Paisley Scotland who married my GGG Grandfather Rev. William McKean.
I don't know much else about her except that she was some how related to a Robert Coats from San Sebastian Of Rio de Janeiro (I have a copy of his will written 10 Jan 1873)
Some of the Names in his will are:-

His Cousin Archibald Hutchinson who lived in Paisley.

He married Mary M. White c/a 1834 in Alabama. Listed on the 1840 Marshall Co AL census.
His profession was a Minister as he was listed in Jefferson Co AR in 1850 as a "Preacherman".
He is believed to have died in Hot Springs Co AR between 1854-1858.
He & Mary had the following children:
