Hi Emily, I've been researching my Cobley family for about 12 years. My line originated in Somerset, Eng. then moved to Wales in the early 1800s. There are a lot of Cobley's in Wales in the Caerphilly area. Most were coal miners. I haven't run into a Frank Cobley in my line. There are a lot of web sites that might help you if you do a google search for Cobley they should come up. If you would like to take a look at my line try looking at findagrave.com. Search on there for Thomas Cobley and my line should pop up. Good luck in your search.

Marian Adell Cobley was my mother-in-law's mother. Laura Iris Gear married Cliffford Starnes and I marred Carroll Lee Starnes. We have four children, each of whom are married, three with childlren. What information do you have about Marian and what can I tell you about Laura, Viola Ray, and Blanch?

Hi, I'm looking for any connections to the family of Reuben Edward Batson Cobley who moved from Taunton in Somerset to Southampton in 1862 when he married Mary Ann Tizard. They had four children; Mary, Harriet, Catherine and William and I'm particularly interested in William's son Alexander James Carstairs Cobley who married Rosetta Edith Day. They ended up living in the New Forest.

I had an Aunt Florence who lived in PA with my Uncle Fred Cobley. She was a retired teacher. We were about 12 years old at the time. She passed away years before Uncle Fred.

Thankyou for the info, just obtained Louisa Cobley's marriage certificate and it does list her dad as Henry, and that he was a carpenter, so delighted with the info you supplied.

In search of "Libby" (Possible Elizabeth) Cobley or Cobleigh, who was born May 1859 in Michigan. Cobleigh may be the married name, and not maiden name of my Libby.
Libby said in the census that both her parents were from New York. She had a daughter named Marion Adell Cobley, who was born Jan 1883 in Illinois.

Anyone have any ideas on this line?

I am looking for Marian Adell Cobley, born in Jan 1883 in Illinois. She is the daughter of "Libbie C." Father unknown.

Marian Adell was married to William Hathaway Gear (abt. 1902) and had six children: Helen, Bruce, Lydia (died young), Laura, Viola, and Lillian.

Marian Adell also, married Hubbard Henderson - moved to Silver Bow, Butte, Montana (circa 1917) and had a son named Maurice.

Do you have any information on this Marion or her parents?

Noel Cobley was born in about 1924 and had 2 brothers Cyril and Leslie. Noel was the son of Jack(John)Cobley of Ashton in Wigan and had 2 shops in Wigan Centre. I know noel cobley also had at least one son possibly more, but don,t know where he is living now 9or even if he is still alive. I also think that he married more than once. I have since found out that the part of the Prescot registration district that my ancestor lived in was in fact st. Helens Lancs.Can any one tell me how I can look up his Baptism at St. Helens Parish Church. His name was George Rimmer Cobley

Just found that my maternal great great grandmother was Louisa Cobley born 1849 in Bristol, U.K. and marrying Edwin Gazzard (b. 1848)in 1865.

I am wondering if Louisa is at all linked to your family tree and if you can offer me any assistance in finding her parents and any siblings etc

I have found out that some of my family livedin this area at some time. Does anyone know if they may be included in the Gores Directories? Aslo would anyone know about the Mental asylum around the sutton area about 1874- do you have a picture? Or can tell me how to find one? Thanks!

Gerald has done very thorough research into Cobleys, especially from Pensford/Publow/Clutton/South Wales. He has recorded a wealth of information on this website. If you click on his Publow link, you will find some information about Joseph and Harriet.
Christine, it looks as if the Joseph you mentioned was son of Samuel and Sarah Cobley.

The name of joseph cobley appears in the family tree section. Harriet was married to him and the only information that I know is that he was baptised in publow somerset on the 21st Sep 1783.

Since posting this message I have lots more information as I have tracked down the current John Cobley, who is alive and well, and who has extensively researched the Cobley family going back to 1753 I also have a forward line to myself. I am also John Cobley's great great granddaughter through Martha Cane. Please e-mail me if you would like more information. I have a family website.

My Cobleys were from Bristol (some still live there) and there were family associations with Rimmers. I have Sue's family from the 1851 Census. I have the family of a Henry and Louisa Cobley also from the 1851 UK Census, but that family are in St Mary Redcliffe,Temple , St Thomas, they're not St Philip and St Jacob.

hi. Sue, I am looking into my fathers ancestry and iIF I am onto the right lead, John would have been my Great, Great, Grandad. I did follow a Henry Cobley back in time to Bristol and into the same Parish that you mention. This Henry was my Great Grandad and my Grandads name was George Rimmer Cobley. Henrey moved to Lancashire where my Grandad was born. As I say, I am not completely sure but I am waiting for a copy of Henry and Alices Marriage certificate to be delivered which should confirm it further. I am looking for the buriel place of my gt. aunt Lillian Cobley Thorpe Shawcroft. I believe she was married a third time and so her last name when she died wasn't Shawcroft. She lived in Fremont Co. CO. possibly in the city of Florence. If there is anyone that knows anything about this lady and her family I would love to share info. My connection is through her oldest brother Thomas W. Cobley. He was my grandfather, he married Cora Rake and they had four children, Clarence, Edmond T. (my dad), Catherine and Lillian. Aunt Lilly's siblings were Mary Elizabeth McCormick, Thomas W.
