I have the feeling that this John J Coffey is the brother of Andrew Jackson Coffey, who came to San Francisco from New York in the mid-1870s. John Joseph Coffey was born around 1855 in New York City to Charles Coffey and Ann Evers, Irish immigrants. He was an attorney and if he did have a bad divorce in his history, it would not surprise me. Andrew Coffey was the husband of Margaret Gegan of Orange, New Jersey.

I have a history on the Coffey - Gegan family for their time in New York/New Jersey and in San Francisco.

Annie Gegan
gegan@cal.net

Coffey in Collin County, Texas

I have a great great grandmother who's name was Maggie (Margaret) Coffey (b 1856, Texas). She married Hillary Davidson, and had my great grandmother, Lucy "Nellie" Davidson.

I have yet to find out who her parents were! The closest I came, was (and it's odd, there are a few Margaret Coffey's born 1856ish in Texas) I found a Margaret in Collin County (where she's buried) who's father was Sathaniel Coffey. However, upon further investigation that Margaret married someone named Kirby.

When I went to Findagrave.com, I found Hiler and Maggie buried in McKinney, but Maggie's grave gave no dates, and the person who listed it wrote that she was born in Arkansas.

Any help would be appreciated!
Looking for descendants of GUY COFFEY, son of John D Coffey and Mary E Bulger who was born in Cincinnati, Ohio abt 1882. His maternal grandmother was Julia Crotty Bulger, the older sister of my great grandfather, Timothy Crotty. The Crottys immigrated to USA about 1849 from Ireland. Guy had nine siblings: Maurice, John F(Frank), Edward, Clarence, Albert, Ruth and Marguerite. Don't know the names of the other two. Both of his parents died in Cincinnati, Mary in 1898 and John in 1904. His father John Coffey was born in Ireland abt 1844, a Civil War veteran and a respected attorney in Cincinnati. Guy Coffey appears in Spokane, WA on the 1910-1930 US censuses. He married Rena Bigelow. Children were Barbara, Richard and John. Guy's brothers Albert and Clarence also lived in Spokane. Would like to share info with his descendants. There are lots of Crotty cousins!!

I know this is a old thread but I just stumbled on it. Giles and Hannah were my great grandparents. Their son Willard was my grandfather, his middle daughter Phyllis Sue was my mother.

Grandpa wasn't actually a coal miner. He was a boilermaker and worked for Stearns Coal and Lumber Co. His sister Martha lived in Cincinnati and passed away in the 80's I believe, my mother passed away in 1985 and before her death I remember visiting Aunt Martha.

Kemberly your grandmother Eva Jane Coffey Martin and my grandfather Oscar Hayden Coffey are sister and brother. I was at great grandpa Jeffs house outside Monticello KY a month before he passed away on 30 Aug 1969, we got a picture of him (Jeff), my grandfather (Oscar), my dad (Haden), my brother (Kevin) and me (Ken) at that time. The only one I have of the four generations together. (great grandma had passed away on 7 Oct 1961) and then my grandfather Oscar passed away in Springfield, Sangamon Co IL in Feb 1973. To my knowledge our grandparents have one sister still living Velda Lee Coffey Wilson she should have turned 93 in Feb.
Of the five people in the picture I am the only one still living my dad passed away a few years ago and my brother Kevin "Butch" was shot and killed 28 Feb 2001 he was 47.

Does anyone have information on the George Washington Jewel, or Jewell, husband of Elizabeth Coffee (b 1802, Burke, NC) who was the sister of Holland Coffee and daughter of Ambrose? I've traced her husband to 1809 as a ten yr old orphan in Greene, TN. He was supposedly born in KY. Any information on him or his lineage prior to 1809 would be extremely well received! I would love to find out who his parents were, and what happened to them.

Kathy (nancy is my legal name)

I am seeking information on the descendants of Perry Coffee of Washington Co / Unicoi Co TN in the mid to late 1800's.

In 1870 Perry Coffee is living in Washington Co, TN, with his second wife Sarah Berry and several children; Minerva, Samuel, Margaret, and James. Minerva is not Sarah's daughter, however.

In 1860 Perry has not married Sarah yet and has children Gabriel, Harrison, Milus, Linville, and Manerva. Also in the 1860 mortality schedule we find that Perry's wive, also Manerva, has died of a fever.

I am looking for information on this first marriage and children. Who was Manerva before she married Perry? Where did all these kids go? Who are their descendants? I am most interested in Milus. My great-great-grandfather was known as Mike Coffee, but there is NO mention of him in records before his marriage to my great-great-grandmother. Is Milus the same as Mike? The age is pretty close and there don't seem to be any other candidates in the area.

Any information, thoughts, ideas, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

So I'm assuming Nora was born in and around 1880 too..
The family story is that they were from Killarney but that wouldn't be 100% certain either..

They moved to Cork at some point where my husbands grandfather was born and he was the youngest of about 9 kids, he was born in 1930..

Coffey's in NJ/NY

I'm trying to track down some history on my great grandfather, Michael J. Coffey, who was born in 1875 in Newark (I believe), NJ and later settled in Tarrytown, NY, where he died in 1961. His parents were Patrick Coffey and Bridget Murphy. I've been told that Patrick was born in Ireland and am not sure on Bridget.

I am seeking any information on his parents and names of some of his six siblings -- I only have the names of two of his brothers, James and John E (1877-1936). Some stories I've heard has mentioned one of his siblings may have settled in Australia but I can't confirm.

Thank you.

Hi Kyle-
Sorry, but I can't help you; no Kathryn Coffey or a Schlosser in my records, and no connections to Canada. Levi's son Franklin was born 1849 in MI. Franklin and his wife Amelia had 10 children, all born in MI.
Since my original post I have found evidence that Levi's parents were Samuel Coffey (b 1791, VT) and Cynthia Beal (b 1788, VT). They had 9 children the first two of which were born in VT and the remainder in NY. It appears that Levi and most all of his siblings had moved to MI by 1840.
Best of luck in your search.
-Richard Davison

James Monroe Coffey - b.abt1905NC-m.FL(1926)div(1929)FL-Veda Virginia Watson

Interested in finding out more about James Monroe Coffey, born about 1905 in North Carolina according to his marriage record. He married Veda Virginia Watson 2 June 1926 in Jacksonville, Duval Co., FL and they divorced in 1929 in Duval Co., FL. They had no children that I am aware of. Veda remarried. Who were his parents and siblings? Did he remarry? Any children? I've looked under Coffey and Coffee but find nothing definitive.

Coffey's from Abbey Co. Galway/Manchester Eng.

I'm wondering if anyone else is looking for Coffey's that originated in Abbey, Co. Galway and then migrated to Manchester, England and then to New York (Long Island) US?

This would be my Great-Grandfather-Patrick and his brother Martin that came to New York in 1902/1890 respectivly. Before coming to the US Patrick and his wife Margaret lived in Manchester, England. Before England, Patrick and Martin are listed as Coffee/Coffy's living in Abbey, Co. Galway, Ireland. Patrick and Margaret had 2 living children - My grandfather was Patrick's son Matthew (or Mathias) Coffey b.1896, and his sister was Margaret b.1898.

Thanks!
