You've probably already read THE LION AND THE THRONE, but if you haven't, please try to find it. Our family is also part of that heritage and you may have tracked back to the Jones family in James City County (now Williamsburg). Great grandfather Jones' and his wife had 4 children, Mary Lucy, Grace Virginia, Fred and Pearl Henley Jones (who worked at William & Mary for many years). The house was on Scotland Street and upon Pearl's death, the was sold to the Rockefella Foundation as it was in historic Williamsburg. I understand that the Armistead family is also part of our ancestry and I do believe we have some sort of written information on that too. I'll ask one of my cousins to contact our uncle who has put together some history. He and his wife were present at the recent celebration in Williamsburg (and the Queen was present if I'm not mistaken). Grace was married to James P Alexander (he was president of Westinghouse for a while) and they lived most of their lives in Wellesley, MASS. She was a nurse. Fred was a surveyor and was married. We met his widow when Great Aunt Pearl died (in her 90s). Mary Lucy (Mamie) married Thomas B. Johnson and lived in Norfolk County. She had 14 children (wow), one of whom was my mother (now deceased). A child Grace died on her 5 birthday. There are two brothers and one sister still living still in the Tidewater area. Please feel free to contact and I'll try to find more.

Coke-Jeffries-Louisiana
Looking for any information for Mary Jane Jeffries(b.1831 Louisiana-d.1859 Louisiana)who married William Washington Coke. They had 1 child, William Savage or Samuel. According to various documents of W.S.'s children, it could be Savage or Samuel.

Most seem to believe Mary Jane was the daughter of Achilles & Nancy Travis Jeffries. I have confirmed that to not be correct. In 1850 Mary Jane is in the household of James & Matilda Jeffries Richey(m.Nov 1843) along with Joab A & Franklin S Jeffries Madison Parish. Census transcription error "Leffers". Close by on the same census is George Richard Jeffries.

Have not confirmed Matilda Jeffries as a married name or a maiden name. Does anyone have information that would confirm Matilda as the Mother or Sister to Mary Jane, Joab and Franklin.

Edward Coke (Cooke) and Elizabeth Potter

In "Ancestry of Jeremy Clarke of Rhode Island and Dungan genealogy", an Edward Coke (Cooke) and Elizabeth Potter are mentioned. I'm one of their descendants.

In the book, however, it is unclear how Edward is related to Sir Edward Cook, the Justice who famously dueled with Bacon under Henry VIII. Sir Edward had a son, his eldest, named Edward, who was born in 1583, but died young, in 1606 (referenced in "Chief Justice Coke : his family & descendants at Holkham")

Unfortunately, it appears that an LDS researcher glossed over that fact and attached him to Elizabeth Potter (b. 1604) and having sired 3 children (from 1636 to 1645, a great deal of time after his death). This is now noted on Familysearch.org. Since that attachment, the web has spread this information all over the place, until it's hard to discern fact from fiction -- except for the idea that poor Elizabeth was married to a ripe corpse.

Does anyone have any information on this line?

My name is Cindy Coke Reynolds, and I grew up in Camden. I recognize the name Ellis Coke as one of my Dad's relatives, but I can't remember if he was a cousin or an uncle (it's been so many years). His name was John Henry Coke, and his father was Jake Coke. You can find me on facebook under Cindy Coke Reynolds or on myspace as well. My email is cindy780@hotmail.com. Would like to connect.
