It is interesting to hear that Colungas are also found of German decent. Majority of my Family members are very fair complected. I am ofted asked if I am european because I am so fair complected.

Christy,
I believe your grandfathers parents were Francisca Garza and Catarino Colunga. He also had a sister Guadalupe Colunga who married Emilio Gonzales. Not sure about the precision of Catarino's name. Found it from Guadalupe's Death Cert. Francisca died in 1921 in Karnes City. The Garza's had moved from Fredricksburg to Karnes for work. Francisca's Parents were Macario Garza and Jesusa Sanchez.

Hope this helps. I have been doing research on this family for a few years. They are my wife's family ancestors.

Kevin

I've always wondered the same thing, since I've known that about the village in Asturias since I was little. My Family as far back as I can tell is from Norenas Asturias, Near Oviedo where I was born. I actually went to Colunga in 2007 when i went to visit my family in Spain, and spoke to some people in the town center who told me no Colunga lives in Colunga. If you ever go to Colunga be sure to check out the beach nearby, its actually quite nice.

My husband Elliott's ammo bearer in WWII was a Jose' Colunga, from Smeltertown, Tex. Would like to hear from him as he saw when Elliott was hit by shrapnel twice and we need witness to that fact for seeking the purple heart which he has never rec'd. Send an e-mail if you are Jose' or know of him. Thanks.

I discovered the town in Spain on the internet. But I recieve many offers through the mail for Italian families only. But one day while sitting in a dental office, a lady sitting next to me found out my last name and said that was her name also. she said to me "funny, you don't look German". I told her my grandparents came from Mexico. She then told me she traced Colunga and found out it was German. A family of Colungas moved to Spain and then a couple of those families went Mexico and settled in San Luis Potosi. Which is where my grandparents are from. And I didn't tell her where they were from. Later I met a man whose mothers' maiden name was Colunga and her other name was German also from the same place. So who knows. The Mormons have everybodys
ancestors so I've been told. For a small fee of course. Hope I helped a little.

Hello,
My name is B. Yruegas I live in California and I know I have lots of family in Texas. I was browsing through the Ancestry webpage and came across some posted messages. I know that the last name "Yruegas" is very unique. My grandfather's name was Cecilio Jimenez Yruegas of Mexico and my grandmather's name was Ofilia Saldivar Yruegas of Texas. If we are related I would love to start some kind of dialoge for the sake of our parents. Please repond to my message, thank you.

Nicole, look in northern Spain in the state of Asturias. There is a small town near the coast called "Colunga" or "Consejo de Colunga".
Also there is a spanish Bible version translated by E. Nacar and A. Colunga (Nacar-Colunga 1944).

Hi There,

My fathers extended family come from Ceralvo, Nueva Leon
Mexico, and they went by Colunga also. My fathers name is
Jonas Gamez. He lived in Washington State for several years
until he divorced my mother in '72 and I think went to live
in Idaho and probably moved to California. Perhaps someone or you
may know any Colunga's from Nueva Leon, Mexico too. I think
he had about 12 to 13 brothers and sisters. I never had the
chance in knowing my old man but I too am curious about the
Colungas and Gamez's.

Sincerely,
D.D.GAMEZ.
