My Coombs/Combs/Comes line came from France in the 1600's then to MA,ME,NH PA. Several branches traveled further West. At this time I find no connection to your line. But, that does not mean that they are not connected. I just can't prove that with what I have. I have the book "The story of Anthony Coombs and his Descendants" plus have completed several of the lines since him. I did enjoy reading your file, and I would like to thank you for sending it to me. Keep in touch, if I come across anything that fits your line I will let you know. Thanks again. Sue

Mary:

Is it a coincidence that my wife's name is also Mary Comes. Middle name is Elizabeth. Her father, John Comes, retired from the U.S. Navy in 1957 after 30 years on active duty. He also spent 4 years in the army before joining the Navy.

John was a Jr. His father, John W. Comes, Sr., was a farmer from Kansas. John was the youngest child in the family that consisted of 8 or 9 kids. The family moved to Southern California, I believe, in the 20's. John Sr. farmed on property that is now Universal Studies in Hollywood. He sold the property to some movied stars (Red Skelton was one of them) and they built homes near the studio.

John passed away July 3, 1993 in Medford, Oregon and is buried at the nearby Memorial Cemetary.

I know that John was married 3 times.

If you will send me your e-mail address, I will be happy to send you the information that I have.

Tom

Please send me an e-mail to the above address and I will make sure that you get all of the information that I have.

My wife's family name is Comes. We have traced her family back to the Valley of the Mozelle River in Germany. Pages of Comes' in the local phone book there. Her ancestors met and married in Gloversville, N.Y. and then travelled to Kansas and then out to California. There were many brothers and sisters that could not be tracked any further and the interest has kind of waned. Paul Hindes in Oklahoma is currently keeping up the history. If you are interested, I can give you his address. Also, would be happy to share any information that we have.
