My father is Glenn Perry Compton (married Glenda Sharon McNabb) he had a twin Harless who died in the 1950's. I met my uncle Don a couple of times. Last I knew he was mining out west ID maybe. Aunt Hazel visited us a few times. She had at least two children; glenn and glenda. I don't know their last names. Hazel had a couple of husbands but i don't know their names either. I don't know anything about Eddie.

The Compton's of this line are from West Virgina and my father told me that his father was Paul and mother was Spicy Sword.

I recently started a family tree on MyHeritage.com if you want to check it out.

Grant

Hi Kay,
Ursula Compton is my 4GGrandmother. I am finding conflicting info from differing sources and a lack of solid evidence regarding the details. I'm glad to share what I have. Daughter of Cornelius Compton and Lydia Crawford, born 1772 in Freehold Twp., Monmouth, New Jersey, and died 09 Nov 1842 in Thornhill, Washington Twp, Boone, Indiana. Married William Walton (1762-1797) in 1788 in New Jersey. Two sons: Col. David W. Walton (1789-1850)and John C. Walton (1793-) After William's death, married George W Wilkins in 1799. Two dau.: Mary Wilkins (b. 1800) and Sarah (Sally) Wilkins (b. 1802).
I also have much better info on Col. David W. Walton, if you're interested. His life as the first European-American settler of Cedar Co., Iowa has been well documented. Here's a link to his bio from a book published in 1910. It actually lists William and Ursula as natives of England, providing a fine example of the conflicting details I mentioned!

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~iabiog/cedar/hc1910/hc1910...

I realize your query is 12 yrs old, but I hope this is helpful. If you have any info to offer, I would be very grateful. Best of luck with your search!
Regards,
Helene

No, my DNA was not even remotely a match to the Aquilla Compton line. Our haplogroup isn't the same and we were off by a lot of markers. Have you entered your DNA results on Ancestry? There is a Compton DNA group set up just recently:

http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.compton/1899/mb.ashx

I am in close contact with some descendants of the Aquilla line who have been tested, because many of the descendants settled in the same area as my own line, though we are genetically dissimilar. Their line actually married into my many-greats grandparent's children.

Jacob Compton & wife Lizzie born in Ohio, Maria Compton Keech born in Illinois

I'm looking for info on Jacob Compton & wife Lizzie, the parents of Maria Keech. I cannot make out her mother's maiden name on the attached death certificate. If anyone has info on any of these family members please let me know.

Maria was married to James Keech born around 1850 in New York. The only records I've found on them is from Missouri after James died. They had 7 children one of which (Florence Rose) was my 2nd great grandmother. I have found death certificates on all 7 children & Maria but I haven't found one on James yet.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

I seen your post on the internet that you have a photo of F.L.Compton. The way I understand your post it is a picture of F.L.Compton at 17 years and it was once apparently in the possesion of Mattie Gurley.
Charles Fred Comton was my Grt Grt Grandfather and I would most likely be interested in obtaining a digital copy of the photo you have possession of.
You can send my copy to erh2@sbcglobal.net Thank you sincerely Richard Hufford.

I'm not sure the info I have collected is correct, but Ola had Lena, Catherine, Clarence and Pearl? See 1920 Census, Ole F Campton. 1910 Census, Ola F Compton. 1900 Census Olie Compton. Have other info, just not sure if one and the same Ola Fremont Compton. Stitt.dj414@gmail.com

As the originator of this particular thread, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed information. It has been very useful. Sorry it took so long to get back here, but it's been a rough time out here in the real world. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all, and please continue posting any new info you come up with.

I recently learned that I have a cousin, Dale Compton, who has our family's info in a book. I plan on writing to him to see if he will share the book with me for a short time. I'll let you know if I come up with anything new.

By the way, are any of you direct descendants of Seth Compton (b. 17 July 1814 in Ohio) and Mary Hockett (also born in Ohio)? They are my GG Grandparents.

Thanks.
Mary

Hi,

Have you seen Reuben, Sarah, Walter and Nancy on the 1860 census as Reuben CAMPTON at Lomira, Dodge, Wisconsin? He is shown as a farmer and the next entry is for a Wm CAMPTON aged 63 born NY (also a farmer), Elizabeth 58 Pennsylvania, Lavina (Lavinia?) 23 Ohio, Sylvester 19 Ohio and xxxx 17 born Wisconsin. Of course it could be a coincidence but this could be the correct family.

Aaaah - looking back to the 1850 census at the same location it is definitely the same family. William and Elizabeth are mysteriously younger but the following children are with them: Carlista (?), Reuben, Diana, Morietia (?), Lovina, Sylveseter and William. The spelling for this one is also CAMPTON rather than COMPTON.

Best of luck with your search.
Sandra

I am trying to find the names of my gg grandfather Reubin
Compton's parents. Reubin Compton was born May 9, 1829 in New York, I know his father died when he was quite young and later they moved to Ohio where he finished his schooling. Later he moved to Dodge County,Wisconsin there
he met Sarah E Schoonhover and married her September 30, 1855. Sarah was born in New York June 28, 1829, they had four children, Walter M, Nancy L, Charles F, and Una L. In May 1866 they moved to Mantorville, Minesota. I would really appreciate any help anyone could share with me.

This is what I have so far, on the COMPTON lineage.

I am following up on a lead of a William COMPTON attached to the Van Couwenhoven Dutch West India Company, who had the Charter for and settled in 'New Amsterdam' and Long Island. I will post if anything comes of that research, or if you have something, please email me and/or post here.

The following is was a compilation of research, estate wills, marriage and death certs, and notes, plus extensive contribution by Mr. Ted R Smith (tr_smith@centurytel.net), of the Mormon church (if I remember correctly). Please send him a big thanks!

I am confident some of you will be able to locate your up-lineages from this as I have, during the past 11 years of research and continue forward.

* Where you find a number by itself, it is most likely delineating a generation.

As you fill in information, please reply to this so we can ALL keep accurate records. And if you have info that differs from this list, please contact me with the documentation/evidence, so I can amend my records and we can all find out to whom and where we belong in the COMPTON lineages.
Thanks!
Lucinda ;]
beachwatergirl at yahoo dot com

2 COMPTON, John b: Abt. 1638 MA d: 1718 MD
..+CLARKE/CLARK, Mary b: 06 Jan 1644/45
It appears that gloamin's source for the information posted was Find-A-Grave contributor Jayne Compton:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Co...;

As a DNA tested descendant of John Compton (1638-1718), I too would be interested in the documentation to support her statement. Perhaps Jayne can provide more information:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=mr&MRid=33...

Thank you very much for your generous posting. John Compton (1638-1718) is my 8th great-grandfather. While I will begin researching your posting in an effort to find sources, if you might be willing to kindly share these sources it would certainly be an appreciated to gift to the legion of U.S. Compton researchers.

John Compton II, was son of John Compton I of Roxbury. It says he was born in Ipswich though. The reason being is unknown. John Compton II was 14 years old when his father died. His fathers first cousin was Henry Compton the Bishop of London. Henry adopted young John. John went back to England, Henry gave John Compton II, 800 acres of land that was called Brathwood in Charles County, Maryland. John went back to the colonies, where he died. John Compton II had a son he named John as well. John Compton II's grandson (John IV) moved to Halifax County, Virginia (Today it's Henry County, Va).

I was two years behind Mike in High School. (Raytown) We became very good friends even though the two years difference in school age. I knew his younger brother Kerry very well and when he transferred to Pittsburgh State, I spent a lot of time introducing him to people at PSU.
Mike and I became closer friends after high school and
college prior to my leaving The KC area for business reasons but I would run into him in KC on visits to friends and relatives. I last saw him around 2007. He had been in Clinton for quite some time and looked just liked I remembered him. He gave me a big hug and we talked for a couple of hours. A great person and friend and I am sorry to hear of his passing. I will miss him.
Larry LaFevers RHS59
