Unknown Conn

I am looking for parents possible parents of Samuel Conn. If he is
a brother to my gggg gf Henry Conn his parents would be unknown Conn and
Elizabeth Mandeville. It is possible that unknown Conn was born in MD
around 1780 (taken from Samuel Conns census info for 1880) and Elizabeth would
be born around the same time but in NJ. Henry (b. 1810) and Samuel (b. about 1805) are both
born in NY, both lived in the Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties of NY during the 1820's and
30's (possibly even before that). Both end up in Hacock County, Ill by 1840's. Does
anyone know of a possible connection to the Conns of MD? This Conn would have went from
MD to NY and possibly NJ before NY. Thanks.
contact at yallow2u2@yahoo.com

On the 1880 census in Jasper Co., Mississippi there is a William 75 b. Ga. and Mary 68 b. Tn. Conn with a Sarah Loften 50 b. Tn listed as sister in the household. Sarah must be the sister of Mary as their birth states and that of their parents match. Does anyone have these people in their family trees? Could they share with me if they know anything about their parents or children? Thanks!

Lineal descent of Judge Hugh Lee Conn of Texas

This is the lineal descent of Judge Hugh Lee Conn of Gonzales, and later of Blanco Texas.

1. Hugh Lee Conn the first. Also known to most Conn's in America as Reverend Hugh Conn. Born 1695 in Macgilligan , Ireland his second wife was Elizabeth Todd Born 1690, and died 1752. Rev. Hugh was educated in Glasgow Scotland.

2. Hugh Conn II born 1704, first time shown as being in Maryland was 1714.

3. Hugh Conn III born 1735, died 1770 in Virginia.

4.Thomas Conn Born 1765 in Virginia Married Mildred Ann Conley in 1781. Died December 29, 1833 in Rollin's County Missouri.

5. John Thomas Conn the fiirst. Born 1790 in Kentucky. Although his first name was John, he often appears on record as John Conn, Thomas Conn or J.T. Conn. He married Mary Norman in 1813. He died November 1844 in Texas. He was a veteran of the War of 1812, and took part in the Battle of the Thames in which battle the famous Shawnee chief Tecumseh met his fate.

6. Hugh Lee Conn Born May 29, 1814, he married his first wife Katherine Boyd in 1837. She was the mother of John W. Conn, Singleton Norman Conn, and Thomas M. Conn. The first two sons were definitely Confederate Veterans, and Thomas M. Conn appears also to have been a Confederate veteran.

(note): Thomas M. Conn is not Captain Conn. Captain Thomas Conn was in fact the younger brother of Judge Hugh Lee Conn. His full name in fact is John Thomas Conn after his father John Thomas the first. I will tell more of Captain Thomas Conn later in this letter.

After the death of Kathren Ann Boyd (circa 1849) Hugh Lee Conn married Lyda Margaret Wilson . She was born July 6, 1831. She was the mother of the following children. Tramuel Conn, Mary D. Conn, Hugh Edward Conn (A Texas Ranger), Mildred A, Conn, Elizabeth R. Conn, Margaret K. Conn, Jessie James Conn, Josiah F. Conn, Nancy J. Conn, Thomas I. Conn, and the last son was Samuel Knotley Conn.
Hugh Lee Conn of Gonzales Texas

I am new at rootsweb, and new to the Conn message boards. On behalf of my wife who has Conn ancestry dating back to Rev. Hugh Conn, I am attempting to establish a base for research of the Texas Conns. John Thomas Conn who is also listed in various places as Thomas Conn came to Texas in 1837 with his son Hugh Lee Conn. Both men are show on the Republic of Texas tax lists. Hugh Lee Conn became a judge in Gonzales. He resigned this position when he voted against secession in 1861. I have a newspaper article which was written by the "Texas Brigade" historian J.B. Polly some years after the War Between the States. The anti secessionist sentiments of Hugh Lee Conn are mentioned in the article. It is note known exactly what Hugh Lee Conn's exact stance was, but it is possibly a similar stance to that taken by Sam Houston on secession. Nonetheless, Hugh Conn's son Thomas became a captain in the Confederate army and was a company commander in Waul's legion where he saw extensive action. Thomas had also been wounded in action during the Mexican war at the battle of Buena Vista.
Thomas' younger brother Samuel Notley Conn was my wife's ancestor.
After resigning as judge in Gonzales county, Hugh Lee Conn moved to Blanco Texas. There is a building there that is attributed to an Adrian Conn, but I believe that if my understanding is correct that Adrian Was the widow of Thomas Conn.

If any of you Texas Conns can give some information of this family branch, I would really like to exchange some information with you.

Herbert L Conn of Lapeer Michigan

I'm wondering if anyone has any information regarding Herbert L Conn (b. 4 Feb 1899 in Mi) married in abt 1920 to Blanche Orleen Wilson (b. 22 May 1902). Herbert became estranged from the family early on so I don't have much. He had three children (Kenneth in 1922, Eunice in 1923 and Dale in 1924) and his parents were Bert (b. 1875) and Jessie (Kerlin b. 1873). It seems they were in Lapeer for most of their early lives. Thanks in advance.

William Conn/Cahn, Birdie Moore (Modoc Indian), Rosa Moore, Ace/Adrian Stewart Conn/Cahn California

I have recently found that my great great grandmother was named Rosa/Rosalee/Rosa Lee/Rosalie last name unknown but she married a Moore in California and had at least 4 children by him.
1)Birdie born Dec 1880 who married William Conn/Cahn September 22, 1898 and had a son Adrian Stewart Conn (Ace/Acie/Asy) who later married Gladys Worsham of Nebraska, they had a daughter Dorothy Ruth Conn who was born in 1926. Ace went on to marry Irene Lewis in 1968.
Birdie then married George Edward Allen Dec 10, 1904 and they had 4 daughters. Juliette A. Allen June of 1905 who changed her name in adulthood to Ruth Juliette Allen who married John Garfield McLean. They had several children. Mildred Bernice Allen 1912 was the 2nd daughter who married a Purkey and had two sons. The 3rd daughter was Thelma Isabelle 1914 was the next daughter. She was institutionalized in 1929 and then later married a Purkey. The fourth daughter Georgia Lee Allen was born Oct 1917, she had a few marriages but only has one daughter Carole Lee Wood who married Moe Kennedy.
2) Charles Moore was born in 1882 and was living with Rosa Moore in the 1900 census (she can only be found on the census when you type in Basa or Bosh, but family has always called her Rosa. When you look at the handwriting on the census you can definitely see it could be Rosa.
3) I have a great aunt named Lucy Amy who was born to Rosa Moore in about 1884 in California. She reportedly married George Amy on Dec 10, 1904 at the same time her sister Birdie married George Allen.
Lucy and George had 4 children (Wendell, Elwin, Kathleen and Patsy/Patricia E.) Wendell and Elwin were institutionalized in 1930 and ended up on the same census as "inmates" of the institution as Thelma Isabell Allen.
4) The fourth child listed on the 1900 census with Rosa was Jenny Moore.
They are all listed as Indian and family history has alwasy said Rosa was Modoc. Rosa is listed as divorced and it also states she had a total of 9 children, 6 of which were living at that time.
We wonder if she were married before Mr. Moore and if so, who and who were the children. Or is she were with Moore the entire time, when and where did they get married and who is Mr. Moore.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
George Conn, b.a. 1803, VA m. Elizabeth b.a. 1805, PA

Trying a new angle to figure out the names of Matilda Conn's parents: naming practices of the scots/irish. Come up with one good possibility, but need more info on the family.

1850 Census lists for Monongalia, Eastern District, VA:
George Conn (47) and Elizabeth (45) with the following children: Mary J.; John; Sophia; Caleb; Lydia A.; Elizabeth; Margaret E.; George W.; "not named" (one day old).

1860 Census lists same, except the kids are from Caleb downward in age, minus "not named".

It seems evident to me, that George and Elizabeth had at least a couple more children before Mary, as she was 27 when Mary was born.

If anyone has any information regarding this couple, and any children they may have had prior to Mary Jane, I would love to hear of it!!! Also, this particular Elizabeth's maiden name is important to my research, as well.

I know there were a lot of George Conns in the area, and a couple of them married Elizabeths, but I'm looking for this particular set (check birthdates and children for matches). However, any set of George and Elizabeth Conns in the VA/PA area, if they were born no later then 1805, and married no later than 1822, would be of interest, as it's entirely probable that I'm off on a wild goose chase :)

Other possibilities of names for parents: Alfred, Emma Jane or Mary, however, it's possible these might also be siblings of Matilda's. (Matilda, herself, was probably Mary Matilda, but her mother might have been Mary).

Richard Alexander Conn KY > Holt County, MO

Greetings

I have a listing of children from some research my grandmother did back in the late 1960s. She descends from Richard Alexander Conn through his son James Lee Conn. Following is a list of the children of Richard Alexaner Conn:

1) Hardic Conn

2) Mortimer Conn

3) Greenville Conn

4) Elgiva Conn

5) Elizabeth Conn marr. Jack Walker

6) Allen Simon Conn marr. Sarah J. Polluck 2-29-1862
+ James Conn d. 1928 Holt County, MO.
+ Ann Conn d. 8-4-1940

7)William Conn
+ John Conn
+ Jimmie Conn
+ Upton Conn
+ Two Other Children

8)James Lee Conn b 12-16-1828 Louisville, KY d 1-18-1880 Brown Co. KS-Buried Rose Hill Cem. marr. Amanda Daily of Plattsburg MO.

OK...so here is what I am hypothesizing about these eight children. Child 8 James Lee is my ancestor, my ggg grandfather. I have plenty of information on his offspring and it would be unseemly to post it all here. If you would like to know more about his family, I am glad to post it.

Child 7: I have no more information than this on this William Conn

Child 6: Allen Simon Conn: what is above is correct, though lacking in details. I have death certificates for his children; they are buried, as per another post I have read, in Holt County, Missouri. Neither ever married. Both were born in Colorado and both died in Holt County, MO.

Child 5: I have no more information than what you see above for Elizabeth Conn

Child 4: I have no more information than what you see above for Elgiva Conn. I do not know if this is her name. My GG Grandmother Laura Elgiva Conn was apparently named for her. Often times this odd middle name is given as Ellen in records.

Child 3: Greenville Conn: I think that this might be Greenbury/Greenberry/Green Conn who married one Elizabeth Sparks and died in the 1860s in Kentucky. He had a son named Richard, and two daughters. This is conjecture, but there is a JL Conn or something like that living with him, who is likely James Lee Conn, child 8 above.

Child 2: Mortimer Conn: I think that this is Mortimore Conn, who appears in several messages in this Conn board. He married Louisa Brown in Holt County Missouri, then moved to Gentry County. Laura seems to be dead by 1870, when Mortomore appears on the census there. He had two children, Mileteus, who migrated back to Kentucky and died there, and a daughter named Syrilda Jane. She married William T Linville and died in Arizona in 1919, and had several children.

Child 1: Hardic: I can find no record of anyone with this name. I think it might be Robert/Robin H, with whom Mortimore was living in Gentry County in 1870's census. Again, this is conjecture, but this Robin/Robert/R H conn is about the right age to be Mortimore's brother.

This is a brief sketch of what I have for these children. As for Richard Alexander Conn himself, the tale is a little more windy: Grandma has him born in 1783 in Ireland and dying 2-14-1862 in Kentucky. He lived in Holt County, MO for the censuses of 1850 and 1860, and says he is from Kentucky. If he moved back to Kentucky and died there in 1862, they must have drug his body back to Missouri to bury it in Holt County. His wife, Grandma lists, is Lucy Matilda Carter "said to be the sister of Anne Hill Carter, mother of Gen. Robert E. Lee." I find Richard A Conn being married in Hardin County, KY to a Lucy POWELL. This is all I have found on his wife. He was apparently married again, and I have seen the name-Elizabeth Rockwell or something to that effect. If Lucy Powell was marrying for a second time, and her maiden name was Carter, Grandma would be the only witness I know of this fact. I have a tree, Fisherfamily1, on Ancestry if you can access it it will have a more detailed analysis of the people mentioned here

George L. Conn s/o Archibald Conn

For the very few who are researching the line of Archibald Conn of Chester Co. PA, Archibald's first surviving son, George L. Conn was NEVER MARRIED to Sarah HAINES. Sarah Haines did not exist. HAINS researchers say this was LANAH HAINS, and she married 23 May 1821 in Zanesville, Muskingum Co. OH a different George CONN, born in Fayette Co. PA, son of William CONN and Sarah PIERCE. There's a marriage book out there that says Sarah Haines, but this must be a misreading of that old handwriting. Sarah, wife of G. CONN, d. 16 Nov 1868, buried in Beechgrove Cemetery, Perry Co. OH, is Sarah CARLILE, who married George CONN on 25 Mar 1819.

George L. Conn

I currently reside on the conn family farm near onarga, Il. I have research previously done by a family member stating that George L. Conn was my great, great, great grandfather and he was born in Pennsylvania in 1796. I do not have any information stating where or who his parents are. I do know that he had 10 children and remarried after his first wife (Nancy Bishop) passed away. His second wife was named Narcissas. The children were Henry B., George, Robert, Smith Walter, Francis M., Nancy, John Nebacher, Mrytle, William Talbot, and Flora. It is known that George L. Conn Purchased and farm in Iroquois County,IL in 1838. He did however live short periods in Ohio and Indiana before 1838 and this is where some of the children were born. In 1856 the family moved to Lamar, Missouri. Henry, Smith, and George enlisted in service during the civil war. I have more information on who some of the children married and where they resided and who their children are also. Does any one have any connections to George L. in PA? Thank You. Hope this helps!

I'm looking for information about the parents of Martin VanBuren CONN, b. 1841 - d. 1913, Columbiana Co., Ohio. He had siblings: Gifford or Gilford CONN, b. abt. 1848 - d. 1931, and Edith CONN, b. abt. 1848. There may have been more children, but the 1850 census lists only these 3.

Parents are listed as Jno. Conn, b. abt. 1800 in PA and wife Elizabeth (last name unknown) b. abt. 1800 in PA.

Jno. is in Columbiana Co. census for 1820 thru 1860. He must have died before the 1870 census, as Elizabeth is listed alone, but w/son Gilford still at home.

Information I have for Gilford show he had at least 2 children with Pheobe ALTDOERFFER (Altaffer, Aldoffer): Sarah, b. 1877 and Samuel P. b. abt. 1878. All are still in Columbiana Co., OH.

Does anyone have any connections to these names? Anyone missing a John Conn born in PA abt. 1790-1810?

Martin is my gggrandfather and I am at a total brick wall with his parents and siblings?
Reuschlein/Reischlein (is also listed as Reishlin) on 14 July 1896 in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska. I am seeking any information on Henry or if he had any children as I am researching the Reuschlein lineage.
Henry's parents are Frederick and Elizabeth (Sandmann) (Reuschlein) Snyder. They immigrated to Cumberland Maryland in 1839 from Bavaria and then some had moved to Arenzville Cass County Illinois around 1852 and in 1878, Henry moved to Nebraska with his mother who remarried to Rudolph Snyder.

Lovenda Conn 1862 John Waring Joe Cox Marion Morgan

I'm curious about Lovenda as I have talked myself into accepting her has my GGG grandmother through Joseph E Conn. I see that she is listed in many family trees as being married to John Waring and Joe Cox but I've yet to find any records of this fact. How is everyone coming by this info? Also, I have info through my GG grandfather Joe's death cert that Marion Morgan is his father but Joe has been said to have been a child of Cox and Morgan. Now I'm not sure I believe the accuracy of the info listed on the death cert as it was filled out by family. You may ask yourself why I doubt the accuracy of the info but if you knew my Conns you would know why it could be questioned. I just don't have any solid info about any of this. All I seem to get is rumors and speculation...I would like to finally get some real answers. Oh, one last this I heard and would like confirmation on is that Lovenda was in an insane asylum. Does anybody know anything about this?

conns in Abbeville SC area

SEEKING INFORMATION ABOUT JOSEPH W. CONN:
It is believed that Joseph was born between 1770 and 1780. He lived in Abbeville SC in the early 1800’s. His first child was born in GA in 1819. His second child was born in GA (Hall Co.?) in 1820. His third child was born in AL (Selmer?) in 1822. His fourth child was born back in Abbeville in 1827. He was in Attala Co. MS in 1832 and died in MS between 1843 and 1845.
We know of four children of Joseph’s:

John T. Conn …. 1810/1820 - 1849
James Carter Conn ….1820 - 1881
Walker Green Conn …. 1822 - 1912
Margaret Allis Conn …. 1827 - 1871

Have much information on descendents of these Conns.

Because of land records and will and bonds information it appears that Joseph is related to George, James, John and Robert Conn seen in the Abbeville area in the early 1800’s.

Does any one see any connection or have information about Joseph or other Conns of the Abbeville area? Does anyone have information about Conns coming to SC and their connections to other areas? I am especially interested in finding parents or siblings of Joseph! Thanks for any info. I have been searching for years to find him and this is the best I can come up with...please Conn families out there help me! Elmer Conn is listed as born Jan 27 1893 and my Joseph E. Conn was born Jan 22 1896. They are close enough to make me wonder if they could perhaps be the same person. My Joseph E. Conn was married to Opal Jordan but I haven't found marriage info on Elmer. So, if anyone has any thoughts or ideas about this PLEASE help me out!

Mathilda Conn-Emerson b. mar 1823, Preston, VA

Still looking for the parents of my g.g.g.g.grandmother, Mathilda Emerson. Her maiden name was apparently "Conn" and she listed herself on one census as having been born in Preston, VA in Mar, 1823. On other census, she reports having been born in W. VA. Her birth was before the state was split.

Looking for her parents, in general, and any info on either would be welcome. Specifically, looking for her mother, as I am working on a matrilineal tree.

She evidently lived near the PA border, for, after her marriage to William Emerson, they lived in Fayette, PA (just over the border). She seemed to keep the tradition of repeating names (as did her daughter/granddaughter), so connecting one of her childrens' names with the Conn family might be a start. They are, as follows: David J., Alfred, Anne Elizabeth (or Elizabeth), George W., Elisha P., Mary Mathilda, Thomas A., Emma J.

George and Thomas both died in Fayette. I believe David moved on to Illinois (through KS/Leavenworth Prison guard)--he or his family moved on to TX--, and I know that Elizabeth moved to KS after her marriage to William Beal, where she was murdered in Riley, in 1889.

Elizabeth's children were Margaret Jane (step-daughter), Anne Elizabeth (Jr.), William John (died shortly after his mother), Birdie Victoria (stayed in KS, married a Rossiter) and Emma (moved on to Oregon with Margaret after her dad died) Beal. Emma was partially blinded as a baby, in the attack on her mother. I don't know if she ever married.

Anne Elizabeth Jr. married Martin Burch and they had 4 children: Martha Elizabeth, George Alfred, Mary Mathilda and Aura Louise. Lizzy was born in PA, and moved with her folks as an older child to KS, so presumably she remembered all the folks "back home" for whom her children were named.

My decent is: Mary Mathilda Conn-Emerson, Anne Elizabeth Emerson-Beal, Annie Elizabeth Beal-Burch, Aura Louise Burch-Woodruff, Anna Louise Woodruff-Philbrick (who was my mother's mother).

Please, any info anyone has on Mathilda Conn (possibly nee "Mary Mathilda" as were her daughter and great-granddaughter) and her parentage or siblings would be of incredible help.

Thanks!

Bernini bust of George Conn

Those of you who are interested in the Auchry Conns know well of George Conn friend Charles I and the Barberini Pope and that there is a bust portrait of him in Rome by the artist who did the sculpture of St. Andrew at the center of St. Peters in Rome, but I found reference in the June 1922 issue of Burlington Magazine to a lost bust of George by Bernini himself. I have not been able to research further but it is an exciting possibility.

The Conns of North-East Scotland all originate from the first Conn; a William Con of the approximate year 1450 AD. I have completed my history of our own line of descent of the Conn Family, which might help other researchers. You are welcome to contact me if you seek further clarification.

Sarah E. Conn, widow, on 1880 Sevier County Arkansas

Sarah E. Conn lived in Center, Polk County Arkansas.
28 years old AR GA TN
In the home were:
James T. son age 06 AR AR AR
Beverly P. dau. age 05 AR AR AR
Johnna T. dau. age 01 AR AR AR
Whisenant, Jack bro. age 26 AR GA TN

Next door is
Columbus C. [Christopher] Whisenant age 49 GA GA GA
Charlotte wife age 48 TN SC TN
There are three children listed ages from 21 to twin girls age 12, all born in Arkansas.

We have a Josephine Whisenant Allen, who is married to William Allen, also in Polk county, Arkansas in 1880. The descendants of this couple, have a Conn connection, but they were never able to find what it was. I am assuming the Jack, is "Jackson" Whisenant, where I have found him listed in other census, with C.C. Whisenant and Charlotte.

I have found no other connection to Conn family in all the places I have looked. Can anyone tell me if the Widow Sarah E. Conn is in fact, the daughter of C.C. Whisenant?

I am sorry to take so much space on another surname, but this is a last resort to find the connection between the families. The cousin Conn came to Grady County Oklahoma and was in the same neighborhood as Allen families. Also known to visit with Curb Allen on his farm.

Thank you,

Joy

Anyone know anything about Caleb Conn, b.a. 1800, Monongalia, VA, m. Nancy or Anne or Anne Elizabeth (she's listed as all three)? They lived in Monongalia, then in Reno, Preston Co., West Virginia (I don't think they moved: I think the state lines were created at that time).

Looking for his female offspring, b.a. 1823, and his wife's maiden name (they had a son, Zedock, but not sure if that's her maiden name-- women often named at least one child with their maiden name-- or a common name of the time that I've just never heard of). They had at least 3 other children, probably more.

Thanks!

Matilda Conn, b. mar 1823, Preston Co, VA (?)

She married William F. Emerson, who was born in Hopwood, Fayette, PA, and they raised their kids there. They had about 7 kids, one of whom was my g.g.g.g.grandmother, Elizabeth, who married William Beal.

Am looking for info on Matilda Conn and her family (especially, parents' names and mother's maiden name). According to her 1880 census, her father and mother were born in VA/WVA. I am wondering if Conn is the correct spelling of her maiden name, but the name Matilda does repeat in my family (and in the Conn family). Other names that repeat are Emma and Anna Elizabeth (both present in Matilda Conn's children). Male names that don't seem to come from the Emerson side are Thomas, David and Elijah, so these might be from Matilda Conn's side, as well, if this is a clue to help connect with someone who knows.

I'm doing a matrilineal line, so info on her mother is the best help, but any info at all could be the Rosetta Stone to help unlock the mystery. Somehow, I think it will be the name Matilda (or one of the other names) that points me in the right direction, since this was my clue in other generations.

Thanks!

Does anyone have any information on the parents of a Louisa Agnes Conn who was born between 1852-1854 in Onarga, Iroquois Co, Illinois and died on December 15, 1887 in Missouri (probably in Jasper Co)? She married Wiley Salley/Sally on June 12, 1870 in Rolla, Phelps Co, Missouri. The 1870 census and Missouri marriage record say she was born in 1852. One LDS record has her birthdate as December 15, 1854, but I question that because it is the same month and day as her death. The other record I have is from Edmund West company and is a Family Data Collection--Individual Record which lists her name as Agnes Louise Lulu Conn, her birthdate as August 15, 1854 in Onarga, Illinois, her marriage as June 12, 1870 in Rolla (which matches the Missouri Marriages record), her death as December 15, 1887 in Oronugo, Jasper Co, Missouri (the date matches the LDS record), and her parents as George L Conn and Narcissas Conn. I'm looking for further verification on the parents because George L Conn is my g-g-g-grandfather. Narcissas was his second wife. I'm directly related to him and his first wife Nancy Bishop Conn. So if this Louisa Agnes Conn is the daughter of George L and Narcissas, she would be my half g-g-grandaunt.

If nobody knows anything about this person, can anyone tell me how reliable the Family Data Collection information is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone is a descendent of Conns who were in PA in the late 1700's and migrated to Illinois (specifically the Onarga and general Iroquois Co. area), here is a website with a lot of info: http://www.familyorigins.com/users/g/o/f/Patricia-D-Goff/FAM...

I am a descendent of the line of Conns from my mother's side of the family Thanks to the link I posted, I was able to tace my ancestors back to a George L. Conn, born in 1796 in PA, first married to Narcissis Goings, then to Nancy Bishop (b. 1811, d.1841). I'm looking to trace my Conn lineage as far back as I can, with the eventual goal of finding out what country they came to America from. If anyone has any information that would help me trace backwards from George L. Conn, I would be very grateful.

Also, I would be interested in hearing from anyone whose ancestors include this line, particularly descendents of Smith Walter Conn, my great-great-grandfather and Roy Conn, my great-grandfather. I would absolutely love to see pictures too.

Dr. George Conn of Penn.
Dr. George Conn

Dr. George Conn, seventh of eleven children, of Henry and Mary (Shrum) Conn, was born August 25, 1819, in Manchester Township. He was reared on a farm and educated in Spring Garden Township. November 8, 1849, Dr. Conn married Maria Shepp, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Slagle) Shepp, of Manchester Township. Three children blessed this union: Annie May, wife of John Sipe; Susanna, wife of Albert J. Bower, and Alexander (deceased). When our subject was twenty-eight years of age he began the successful treatment of cancer; his success in the treatment of this loathsome disease was so marked and exceptional that he made it his life work. Many persons in York and adjoining counties in the enjoyment of health today can testify to Dr. Conn’s success of their cases after having failed to get relief from eminent physicians in the large cities. Dr. Conn resides in the village of Pleasureville, about three miles from York, in Spring Garden Township. His Postoffice address is Box 509, York, Penn.

Taken from the book, “History of York County, Illustrated 1886” by John Gibson, Historical Editor

Hugh CONN FAMILY - FAIRFAX CO. VA

Looking for any info about a HUGH CONN who owned land in Fairfax County, VA, late 1700 to early 1800. Only info I have follows:
Susanna Conn-Trook received 60 acres of land located north of Georgetown Pike about 1/2 mile west of River Bend Road as part of the settlement of the estate of her father, HUGH CONN (date unknown). In 1837 Susanna and her husband John Nicholas Trook reserved a 1/4 acre burial ground on this land. John and Susanna were buried in Washington DC so this cemetery may not have been used.
Does anyone have data on this CONN family? Where could I look for HUGH CONN's will? Thanks, Carole Trook-Hacker

Conn, Fleming, Turkington, Forde

Seeking information on Turkington, Fleming, Forde and Conn from Co. Armagh, Ireland. My husband is descended from Charlotte TURKINGTON and Alexander FLEMING.

Charlotte is a daughter of James TURKINGTON and Margarett Jane FORDE. They had at least 8 other children all born in Ireland, many of whom emigrated to Manchester CT.
1. William John (b. 1867) (m. Martha ?, daughter Edna (b. CT)
2. Martha, b. 1869, married an unrelated William Turkington, settled in CT
3. David b. 1871, not sure if he emigrated to CT or not
4. Mary (Minnie) b. 1873, who was apparently married several times but settled in CT
5. James, b. 1875 not sure if he emigrated to CT or not
6. Emma, m. ? Seargent, settled in Boise, Idaho
7. Sarah, m. ?, settled in New York
8. Charlotte, b. 1879, m. Alexander Fleming in 1913. He was also from Co. Armagh (b. in Derrinraw, 1876). They settled in Manchester, cT
9. Edith (b. ??), married MacDermid

Alexander Fleming is a son of Thomas FLEMING and Ann CONN. They were married in 1860 in Tartaraghan. The lore is that Alexander is the only one of the children to emigrate to the US. His brothers and sisters are likely to include at least the following (all identified from LDS IGI)
1. Samuel James (b. 1864)
2. Margaret Ann (b. 1865)
3. Robert (b. 1869)
4. Josph (b. 1871)
5.
Please Read: How to Use the Surname Box

THE SURNAME BOX is the most improperly used and least understood message board feature.

1. When you compose your message the surname box is just under Classification.

2. The box is for surnames only, and only those surnames mentioned in the body of your message.

DO NOT LIST any other surnames here. This is NOT the place to list all the surnames that you are researching.

3. Separate all surnames with a comma only. Do not use slashes, dashes etc.

4. The surname box is for indexing your messages under advanced searches. If you add names not in the message you be will leading advanced search users to useless messages.

Say for example, you put the name Smith in the surname box but Smith is not in the message. Then a Smith researcher goes to that message, but will have found nothing useful because the message has nothing to do with Smith.

Hint: If you wish to let others know what other surnames you are researching then list them in a separate paragraph below your message.

5. If you would like official conformation of these instructions please click on the link at the bottom of the page for board rules.

Sincerely,

Board Admin
Hi All,

I am trying to trace a Hugh Conn born Ontario July 17 1876 married a Gertrude Beatrice McDiarmid - date unknown - and found in the 1901 census in Brandon, Manitoba. 1906 they are located Souris District, Manitoba with two daughters, Kathleen and Margurite.

I suspect this Hugh Conn is a son to an Emma Conn found in the 1881 Goulbourn, Carleton County census as a widow. Along with the son Hugh there is another son James R. Conn mentioned. I believe I have found his marriage to Edna May Millions of Carleton Place, Ontario on Sept 4 1901.

Looking for more info, or clues. I'd like to know where and when Hugh and his wife Gertrude Beatrice died and where they are buried.

Have background info on Gertrude Beatrice McDiarmid to share,
Thank you,
Leah

Charles Freemont Conn

I am completely blocked so far beyond this branch of our family tree. My g.gf was Charles Freemont Conn. All I know of him is he was born c.1851 and died in 1906 from an accident working with the railroad near Winfield KS. He was 25 yrs her senior when he married my g.gm Myrtle Greenwalt of Clinton, IN. He died shortly after their daughters Florella Mae and Nell Dawn were born.

I am told from family lore that he was rather mysterious and very vague as to his past before meeting my g.gm. I have a photo of him sporting a lawman's badge complete with sidearms. My g.gm had written Talihini (OK) on the railroad ticket envelope which held it.

If anyone has any info that might match with this elusive character of our family it would be appreciated. I have been able to go back 4 generations on my g.gm's side but, as I said, I'm at a standstill with my g.gf, Charles Freemont Conn.

CONN/ALEXANDER

Hi--I'm looking for any information that people might have about Amelia Ann Conn, married to James Alexander. They lived in Elbert/Wickes/Lincoln Co. Georgia in late 1700's to early 1800's, then lived in Kentucky. Have already checked the Hugh CONN site--it's got a lot of information if you haven't seen it already:-)--see my responses on the Hugh Conn messages if you want url.

Still looking for relatives of Albert Webb Conn of Arizona and Verl Conn of San Diego, Ca. I know there was a grandson named Kenneth and a June Conn also related to them.

Verl was born 4/9/1914 and died May 1977 in San Diego. His social security # was issued in Arizona.

My grandmother was married to his father, Albert Webb Conn about 1965 and they lived for a time in Texas and also in Phoenix, AZ. Albert Webb Conn was a minister.

Thank you for any information you have about this family.
