Thanks for solving a mystery for me. I have long wondered if the son of C F LaCoste (b ca.1842 BWI d 1892 Eng), Chas John C LaCoste( b 1881 Eng-d? Eng?), who married Grace Neilson (b PA d Eng), g-dau of Wm S Neilson & Esther LaCoste were related. According to posts in this thread they were probably 2nd cousins.
These are not relatives of mine, so have no sources other than what is available on the internet.

Hi Annette. I see your question was posted 12 years ago, so I hope this still finds you. There was a George la Coste (died Feb 1849 in Trinidad) who married an Eliza Piggott Constable on 11 Jun 1839. Eliza was born in 1817 and died in 1888. She is definitely not an Elizabeth, so this may not be the right George La Coste. However if you think yr gg Grandmother may be an Eliza Constable, then I can provide you with plenty of information about that branch of the Constable family.
The couple I am talking about had 4 children, Charles Frederick, Mary, Eleanor and George
Eliza's father was a John Charles Constable (b1770, d1855). In his will he talks about a house in Dublin that he inherited from two aunts (presumably spinsters) Susannah and Latitia Constable. Have you found out anything more about the Dublin Constables? I have not been able to trace them at all.

Dusting off the family history searching for more on Captain Nathaniel Stevens Constable, b 1834 in England and d 29 Feb 1880, buried in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. I have a large collection of his military career as a Quartermaster, from 1862 until his death. Looking for any information about his first wife Adaline Williamson, died 18 Nov 1858 and any children. Also anything about his second wife, Sarah Matilda Hendlen Blydenburgh (also went by Sallie) and anything about a son, Eddie, born 9 Feb 1868 in Fort Shaw Montana.

Esther was born in Trinidad (West Indies) where their father was Hugh LaCoste, Commisary General of Trinidad. This might give you an idea of where they went from Yorkshire. George and Esther's mother was Josephine Anne Marie Black.

My Great Aunt Jessie (Strobert) Botts was perhaps a cousin of your Naomi. We called her "Polly" and saw she and Arthur occasionally at Settle/Strobert reunions and rarely on holidays at my grandmother's house. I really don't know much that doesn't relate to Aunt Jessie, as she was always close and friendly with, and my only connection to Polly and Arthur who were somewhat distant relatives, though I don't know the exact connection. When P & A moved to New Port Richie, FL, Aunt Jessie moved there as well, and bought her own house near them. She felt comfortable leaving her life in Washington, DC (worked at Nat Geo) to spend her retirement there because they would be nearby. Apparently they had a falling out. My mother was Jessie's guardian as she, Jessie, became ill and died of Alzheimer's. There was mention of Polly and Arther of during those years, from my mother, who went to NPR FL a number of times, but I don't know anything about WV. I'm sure Polly/Naomi is dead by now, or the the oldest person alive (!). I can ask a few other people for more information, about Polly. I'm of course assuming that the two names Polly and Naomi refer to the same person.

As to Rampey, William L. Strobert (who I'm looking for information about, his parents, etc.) was listed on the 1880 census as living in Dumphries VA, and one of his daughters was named Julia Elizabeth, who I believe had two husbands and one of them was Chadwick and one was Rampey, so perhaps there is some relevance here to this thread. I have a photo of Julia Rampey in front of her house in Washington, DC around 1900. I will cut and paste to another of your posts I saw that reference some of these people. If anyone knows about William L. Strobert born in GA in 1833, please let me know.

Hi Jennifer, My husband is descended from Jane Constable who married William Smith in 1837, unfortunately a month or two before the registration of marriages became compulsory. Jane was born in Ockley and her children were born in Dorking. My husband's great grandfather William son of Jane and William married Jane White from Warnham and they settled in Epsom. Two of their sons, William and Albert, moved to Grimsby. Albert was my husband's grandfather and he married Leither Banyard in Grimsby in 1905.

Pat Smith
I have a photo album containing 191 old photos of the Constable family and places visited in the early 1920s. It was put together by A Winifred Constable i think back in the 80s but not sure. It has a lot of photos with names so should be of interest to the right part of the family if I can locate them. It is for sale at £150 including postage and would be happy to suply further information . Regards Leslie George.

Dear Lyle,
I too am a descendant of John Oldfield Constable , I believe throught their eldest son John (if memory serves me). I went to a couple of Constable family reunions in the late 80' early 90's the second one was held in Moruya. Unfortunately, I don't have teh contact details of teh person who compiled the family history but I do remember that the had made a link with John Constable the painter. I will contact my Uncle who may have more details and pass them on to you if I have any luck. Where are you located?

Cheers,
Anne

This is a bit of a long shot but I would be interested to hear from anyone (in America?) who may be descended from James Constable who was born in 1770 in Cupar, Fife, Scotland. He was the son of John Constable a Burgess in Cupar and his wife Ann/Anne Thomson.

I have an old handwritten family tree which has the note "went to America left family" beside his name. I am hoping this means he married and had children in America.

Regards
ianehume

I seen your post on Constable. My mom Flora has been giving me a lot of information on family. Seems there has been a bible handed down. When my grandma died she had gave the bible to my mom. Now I have it with other papers.

He did ride with the Quantrill's Raiders in Missouri. Sam H Constable would be my Moms Grandfather and my great.

Sam H Constable Father and mother was Thomas Constable and Polly ?(I think I can find her maiden name).

1860 census shows Sam 14 years old. He had 7 brothers and sisters and I have there names.

also Constable married Hicks (Hix)

just now getting into this research but have info to get me going.

I see you posted this on Posted: 7 Sep 2000 12:00PM GMT .
