Searching for Rose(or Rosa)Conte (Conti) born in North Bay, Ontario, Canada - February 27, 1915. Married Salvatore (Sam) Spina in 1938, London, Ontario and lived in Detroit, Michigan. She was divorced in 1948. She is my mother. I have never known her and have been searching for 30+ years. She may have remarried and had other children. Sam Spina is deceased.

Hello Fellow Genealogists!

I am trying to make a collection of Old CONTI photos (with info, as well, to put the photos in "context") as a useful "reference" tool, for us all.

I am collecting/compiling and indexing, any Old CONTI photos (up thru 1960- but prefer earliest possible) in JPEG/GIF formats (ONLY)-sent as attachment w/email to me -including as much info known about person(s) IN the photo(s) IN the BODY of that email's text (ie-the written message area of an email!!)--such as....

name/dates birth/death/marriage; from whom they descend (if known); whom they married, or names of children; what they did for livlihood,etc.,etc.

I will complete this project w/in the next 2 1/2-3months-and anyone who submits an image to me---will receive a compiled photo booklet and access to the CONTI Family photo/info website, when it is completed.

Also jpeg/gif images of Documents/Text are welcome (as again, this adds "context" to the person in photo's life)--such as scanned b/m/d certificates;
military photos; typed pages of family history; sketches of family tree image;

and/or Gravesite HEADSTONE pix; scanned images of pension/military/ citizenship/medical records; yearbook photos; news clippings;or scans of family bible pages,excerpts from letters/diaries,etc.,etc.

Anything that adds to what is known about the person whose photo you are submitting! (NOTE: Please just NO CENSUS Images, though- (as Ancestry has all these already!!)-thanks!)

Please make the jpeg/gif no larger than about 7x9 inches, preferably around 5x7-ish--definitely No LARGER than 2MB (not quite 8 1/2 x 11 in. size!!)

I hope to make this a really helpful TOOL for all of us CONTIs --(and any related lines you wish to submit--such as those we married-in "with" or of those of surnames that married "into" us!).

NOTE: This is foe ALL LINES (& Spellings-as spelling not "set" til 1900s) of this Surname--due fact we may THINK we are NOT related-but go back further and find we come down from either the SAME patriarch or siblings----or two un-related lines intermarry--and then, of course from there on down they ARE related--and also from all originations as many families started out in one country--only to later be in another-but may be the same family after all!!

Dear Michelle, I was so interested to read your message re: Conti family. My grandfather, Francesco Conti & grandmother, Ida Conti were born & married in Cori, Italy; they came to New Castle, PA, US in 1913 (my Dad, Chris Charles Conti was born in Cori.) They lived in New Castle until my Dad was 16, then moved to Alliance, OH. My Dad had 8 siblings (Joe, Mark, Alphonso, Nettie, Albert, Nick, Frank, and a little sister (Geselda)who died at age 3. When I was young, we visted New Castle often. I haven't kept in touch with anyone there and would love to have more info. Also info about other relatives who came from or live in Cori. My Grandma Ida's maiden name was Maggio. I live in Barberton, OH.

I'm looking for information about my father, Joseph Conti. I believe he was from Providence, Rhode Island. I don't know exactly when but think he was born some time around 1912. He may have been a sargent in the army and stationed at Camp Grant in Rockford, Illinois during WWII. I was born in 1944 in Rockford and my mother's name is Nellie. Does any of this sound familiar?

Inez N. Conti

CONTI, INEZ N., 91, of Cranston died Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at Miriam Hospital. Born in Providence a daughter of the late Joseph and Rosa (Landolfi) Conti. She retired from New England Telephone Co. in 1977. Her career in communications began as an operator in the old West Office. She was promoted to supervisor when her abilities were recognized, and then to Asst. Manager, Manager and Traffic Manager as her career expanded. Miss Conti headed the New England training staff in Boston, overseeing the assessment of aspiring management personnel, and was one of the first women to direct and establish a training guideline for the many phases the telephone company experienced. Her legacy of exceptional management style is still highlighted today. She was a well known local artist studying under C. Gordon Harris, one of Rhode Island's foremost landscape artists. Her art work was shown at various art galleries and exhibits. Miss Conti was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting. She is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Lena Paliotta of Cranston and Mrs. Mary DeCubellis of Johnston. She was the sister of the late Achille, John and Joseph Conti and Alba Conti Bennett. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Mark Church, Cranston. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery. Please omit flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care RI 169 George St., Pawtucket, RI 02860. Funeral arrangements made with 'WOODLAWN' Funeral Home.

Francesco was married to Pasqualina Macchia born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA,who had returned to Italy & then back to live their lives in the Brooklyn, New York & Newark, New Jersey areas. I would be interested is seeing an obit if you find one, especially if it mentions WWII service. He is one of the "suspects" I have but don't know if he is the "one". The birth year of 1912 is a guess and the family story is that he died during the WWII years but given that my mother refuses to discuss him or her purported marriage anything is possible.

Thanks for your information. I have a handfull of "suspects" including the one you found. The birth year is only a guess. My problem is that I cannot definitely say that this Joseph Conti is my father, I have not been able to find an identifying link between my mother (who you did find) and any of the Joseph Conti's. I do not know when/where or if they ever married. I have checked the counties surrounding Rockford, Illinois for a marriage license and death certificate with no luck. I may just try writing Conti's in Providence, Rhode Island. I'm afraid my mother will be taking the information I need to her grave; she has always and continues to refuse to discuss him.

We are trying to find anyone who may know something about my husband's father. His name is/was Joseph M Conti (M may have been for Michael). Born in Providence, Rhode Island. Married Nellie Marie Mackey Townsend in Rockford, Illinois or possibly in Iowa sometime between 1937 and 1943. Son, Joseph Michael Conti, born 1/29/1944 in Rockford, Illinois. Address was Auburn Street in Rockford, Illinois at the time of his son's birth. He was believed to have served in the armed forces during WWII as a sargeant. He was probably a cook or someone with access to supplies. At one time he was believed to have been stationed at Camp Grant in Rockford.
Does this sound like anyone you may have known or know?

Diana - This is the information I have on my husband's family. His great grandfather, Aniello Conti married Concetta Tagliamonte(a) both from Ponza. They travelled on the Pannonia to West Virginia from Naples in 1920. They eventually moved to NY to be with relatives -one of their sons was born there. They relocated and settled in Sea Isle City, NJ.

I have hit a wall.

My great-great gradnfather's name is Giacomo Valeri and was born maybe around Pesaro Italy. He married Benilda Conti.
They had my great-grandmother Rosa "Rose" Valeri and two sons Alipio and Aldo Valeri. My great-grandmother Rosa entered into an arranged arriage to my great grandfather Milizadi Bianchi.

The story is that supposedley Giacomo abandonded his wife Benilda Conti an left her in Italy. I was wondering if could ever find out what ever happened to her or any of her family. They might have lived on a farm.

This is Debbie - you may not remember me but I'll explain who I am. The last time I saw you I was around 10, and that was in 1972!

Your mom & dad (My Aunt Frances & Uncle Charlie)were sister & brother-in-law to Aunt Mamie & Uncle Carl. My grandma (Aunt Jennie) was uncle Carl's sister, and I am daughter to Aunt Jenny's daughter Betty (and husband Larry). We moved back east to Rochester after mom passed.

Hope all is well with you & yours! My dad has since passed (1982), so it's just me & my brother Larry now. He just recovered from open heart surgery and I have been diagnoed (12 years now) with MS like Uncle Carl.

My maiden name is Fiano and my family was from Connellsville, PA. My father was Angelo and my mother was Philomena Sodies. My grandparents were Francis Fiano and Louise Rossi Fiano. I am looking for anyone who may have info on their roots. I also had a lovely English teacher name married name of Conti in high school. Do you have any info which may help0 me. Hello. I don't know if you can help me or not. My name is Maria. I am new to the family history thing, but I love it. I have Di Scipio, Tomassetti, and Grande in the family history that I have found so far. That is just on my grandfather's side. I am still trying to find out information on my grandmother's side. I am looking for any information on Louis M Conte (b: 16 Sep 1885 in Itlay; d Jan 1976 in Midlothian, VA). I believe he emigrated from Italy in about 1900. I do not know which region he emigrated from. I do know that orginally his last name was spelled Conti but it was misspelled on the paperwork when he arrived in the U.S. He married Lizzie (unknown maiden name). I need more information about a Bernardo Conti's family.
Bernardo was born in Italy about 1883 and came to US in the 1900 with her wife, Lucia Salomone.
They lived in Pennsylvania. Bernard died at Plum, Allegheny County about febrary 1948 and Lucia died in Pittsburgh about 1973.
They had 5 children, three daughter and two son, Jennie, Julia, Bernard, Margaret Ann and James.
Jennie was born in 1916, Julia in 1914, Bernard in 1917, Margaret Ann in 1919 and I don't know the date of birth of James.
I need more information in particular about Jennie, who married James Gais in Pennsylvania. but any further information about the eamily are will appreciate.

If you are a descendant you can legally request his death cert from the Pennsylvania vital records. Another good source would be the Catholic cemetery he was buried in (assuming he was Catholic), because his tombstone may have family info. Finally, military registration, draft records, etc, may have that info. Hope this helps,
