After more research, my grandfather was born to a very young couple named Leyva. They were destitute at the time of his birth and offered him to the Primitivo Contreras and his wife. They adopted him into their (Contreras) family.

It is correct that he was born in Presidio in 1886. Unless there is some other connection, I doubt that he is the same Juan as the one in your family. My great-grandfather was Primitivo Contreras.

My mother, Maria Consuelo Contreras, was born May 5, 1925 in Marfa.

I am married to Linda Contreras, born 1942 in Marfa, TX. I have been researching the Contreras Family for some time. I trace her father Manuel Contreras to his father Simon Contreras and his father Jose Contreas born 1834 in Mexico.
I believe that Jose and Alvina Contreras had five children: Venturo, Ferman, Simon, Justo and Regina. Venturo married Angelita Madrid and had 12 children. One son was named Juan and was probably born around 1886. Is this your grandfather?

I am looking into my paternal grandfather and all i know is that his name is Abundio Contreras. I do not believe that he was married to my grandmother who was significantly younger than him. My father was Ignacio Contreras who was born in June of 1932 in Tizapan El Alto Jalisco. He was married to Maria Trinidad Garza or Gomez. Any assistance is appriciated.

Perhaps you saw the information that San Juan de la Montana is also known as Nigromante and is part of Tamazula de Gordiano, Jalisco. The Contreras Family (ies) is long standing and numerous in the history of Tamazula. My ancestry includes a Contreras married to a Carrillo in the 1800s but our family includes many de Los Contreras from there. We also have family that left Tamazula and moved to Queretaro.

They died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device Sept. 8 in Kandahar, Afghanistan. “On March 23, 1890 Jose Rodriguez, a 25 year old single man, native of Huejotitan and a laborer presented a live baby boy born at seven in the morning on the sixth of December of 1889 on the Rancho La Casita who he named Nicolas, stating that the baby was the natural born son of Leonor Contreras, who was 18 years old and originally from the same ranch, a single mother, the baby is the maternal grandson of Onofre Contreras.”

Hello, my name is Kurt Smith, and I believe that Augustina is my great, great grandmother. My grandmother was Agnes Pauline Lewis, whose mother was Agnes McCleary, daughter of William and Augustina. I think that this would make my grandmother your cousin.

I have been told all my life that there is "Mexican" in the family, and my grandmother, when she was young, as I have been told, did some Spanish/English translation. I just today found this information and am a bit excited to find this out.

I am rather new to all of this so I don't have much to share. I just wanted to make contact.

My Grandfather was Marcos A Contreras and his wife's name was Juana Rivera Contreras. I believe they came from Guanajatoa, Mexico. They lived in Pirtleville, Az. My Father was Ernesto Baron Contreras. Marcos & Juana had at least 9 children. Do these names mean anything to you?

My name is Leticia Contreras and I just read your request. It is now 2010. Funny how these things stay floating on the web forever.

Anyhow, I would like to tell you that the Contreras name is alive and thriving in Jiquilpan, Michoacan. My father and all his family were born there. Our family history in Mich. goes back to the 1700's. I just spoke with my Tia Abigail Contreras and she said that most Contreras is that area came from Los Corrales which is very close to there. I am looking for a great, great grandmother, Delores Contreras who was born in 1853 in California. Her parents were both born in Mexico. I believe she is the Delores Contreras listed in LA in the 1870 Census whose parents were Carmelia (Carmelio?) and Mariana Contreras. Siblings: Manuel, Miguel, Carmen, Fernando Arturo, Angela, Josefa, and Henriqua. The reason I believe this is Delores' family is that Delores used many of these names with her own children after she married Francisco Cuen. Their children were: Mariana, Sophia, Amelia, Arturo, Enrigue, Alberto, Francisco (not in birh order).

In a LA Times marriage announcement for Sophie Contreras who married Filiberto Romero, a "F. A. Contreras" was listed as a wedding guest. Could this be Fernando Arturo Contreras, the bride's uncle?
