My great grandfather was adopted at a young age. He was born around 1897 and died in 1924. His adopted name was Irvin J Conway and he was married to Ruth Llewelyn. His adopted father was James Conway born 1951-1916 and his adopted mother margaret 1858-1925. During this time they also adopted another son (born around 1896) named Louis J Conway. If anyone has any information to help me find birth parents I would greatly appreciate it.

They lived next to the Family of Henry and Mary K. King.

A slim lead, perhaps.

Have no idea if you'll get this but according to our family stories the Conway brothers were my g'father's cousins. The brother who did not participate moved his family to Cape May. Some years later my mother discovered that her best friend was this man's daughter; they were cousins. Would love to know if you found out any more.

Mary Harriet Conway - Ireland to Cincinnati Ohio

Mary Harriet Conway b. abt 1830 in Ireland was sister to Mariah Conway Taylor, John Conway, Ellen Conway Wier, Elenor, and William G Conway. On Mariah's death certificate it said her parents were William and Margaret. These Conways arrived from Ireland about 1849/50 and were in Cincinnati Ohio. I am unable to find immigration records for them except for baby brother William G who came around 1854.

Mary Harriet Conway married William McRoberts in Sept 1850 and it is believe she died somewhere around 1866, although no one can find evidence of her death yet.
LM Dixon dixonmckeown1@gmail.com

Conway - Hogan Ireland to Mass

I am looking for any information on John Conway. He was married to Catherine Hogan and, as far as I can tell, had 7 children born in Ireland. The children were John, Bridget, Catherine, Mary, Thomas, Michael and Julia all born between 1846 - 1863. All of the children and the mother Catherine came to Milford, Mass in the 1870's or 1880's. Thomas returned to Ireland but the others stayed here. I can find no information on them in Ireland but have a ton from the US. Any help on locating them in Ireland's records would be great. They may have been from County Mayo - according to my Grandmother's records.

I have a John C. Conway in my family...he was born around 1862 in Arkansas. He had been married twice before marrying my father's mother Sarah Williams. They moved to the Oklahoma Indian Territory around the early 1900s. I have yet to find info on his father or mother. My father Clarence was one of 9 children to this marriage. I am told that he was the father of 24 children. I don't know when he died. He also was a minister in the Oklahoma area.

Hi Tony,

I see this thread is ancient, but apparently I have some connection to the Vicar-General of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Oft told Family story which I am still fleshing out is that the Vicar was some relation to William A Conway, my great grandfather, which is hpw the family made it from Ireland to Chicago. My data gets weak when I
reach my second grandfather (Michael Conway).
I will keep you posted.
My dad was Robert John Conway. He was born in Illinois to George and Marie-Esmarelda Conway. Georges parents were John J. and Johanna Conway. John J. was an engineer and passed away in 1900 while boarding a train at work. John J. Conway's parents were James & Ann Conway. That is as far as I have been able to get with my research. James & Ann were the Conways of our family that moved from Ireland. I am trying to find relatives on the Conway side, it is such a common name so it has been difficult. It took me months to finally confirm that John J.'s parents were James and Ann. I am Julie Conway, born in San Diego, CA. My two older sisters were born in Illinois. My parents Robert John and Marlene Conway moved to San Diego in 1961.

Dear Russ,

Sorry to disappoint you. My research hasn't turned up any recent Conways. All are 19th and early 20th century Conways. I'll keep my eyes open though especially if I find any St. John's Conways in my travels. Good luck with your search for Bernadette.

God bless

John Paul

Hi John,

I'm Russ Burkhard. I was stationed at Argentia from 1970 to 1974. I married a Mary Jones from St. Johns in 1974. Mary's maid of honor was a mutual best friend of ours; Bernie (Bernadette) Conway. Mary and I went to Key West FL from 1974 to 1978. Bernie visited us twice. About 1977 she married an eye doctor whose name I remember was like Rolf Kock. They moved to Queensland Austrailia in 1978. Mary and I went next to Keflavik Iceland from 1978 to 1981. That's when we lost contact with Bernie and Rolf. I remember her folks lived outside of St. John's maybe in the Tobay area. She'd be about 60 today. Any info you could provide me would be greatly appreciated!

THANKS!!

Russ and Mary

I am going over many pages of family history I have. Regarding Mary born 1882. The only info I have is that she was married and had children. Since this tree was created sometime in the early 1930's, she was still alive so I don't have a death date but I thought I read she moved to the US. Her mother was Helen Haddow, Father Adam Ballentine. Siblings were Alexander L born 1876 - also lived in Calgary, Bessie Ballentine - died in 1895 as a teen, Adam Jr born 1887 resided in Hamilton, Ontario, Gibson Ballentine died 1935 in Vancouver BC. In doing a little research, I read that giving the first born male and first born female the grandparents first names makes for a lot of repetition of names which makes it a bit confusing.
Another interesting bit of info is that Adam Ballentine married a second time to Margaret Galloway and had 6 more children of which my grandfather was one.
