Sibby C. COOPER Hagy

Looking for information about Sibby C. Cooper, daughter of James A. Cooper and Martha A. Dowdy. Her name could also be Sibia or Sebe, both spellings I have seen on various reords. Sibby was named after her aunt, Sibby Dowdy Crites of Stoddard County, Missouri, the older sister of her mother.

I have also found a California Death Certificate for a Sibby C. Chamberlain, b. 09 Jan 1858, with father's surname Cooper and mother's surname Dowdy. There is a 1930 census enumeration from Huntington Beach, CA for a Hallie O. Chamberlain and his wife, Sibby C., b. Missouri and those two pieces of documentation would seem to match Sibbie C. Cooper.

I am also wondering if her first husband, Joseph Hagy, 1855-1883, is the son of Martin Hagy and Celia Riddle.

Please contact me directly at ruthmcarthur@comcast.net.

Grace Ellen Cooper around Shelby/Macon counties, d.1909

Grace Ellen Cooper was my great great grandmother. She married my grandfather Henderson Allen McGee in 1905, and died from complications during childbirth to my Great Grandmother Agnes Verneal McGee in May 1909.
My research brought me to a Cooper family in Macon County in the 1900 Census search, but Im not for sure if this is the correct family...that Grace Cooper was only 9 years old in 1900, which would have made her only 14 when she married my twenty-something grandfather in 1905. The German connection to my Great Grandmother Agnes does present itself through this connection however.
Does anyone have any further information on her? I would greatly appreciate any help!
Thanks!
Josh

I have been searching for my g-grandmother Ida Mae Cooper and g-grandfather Alfred Caron for many years. I am hoping there is someone out there that actually knows or has more info. This is what I know: Ida Mae Cooper was born in 1861/62 maybe in Warrensburg, MO and died in 1919 in OK. She married in 1884 to Alfred Caron. He was born in 1861 Saginaw, MI and died in 1931 in OK. They had at least 5 children (3 dau. - died young in OK and 2 sons Benjamin and Lewis). Lewis is my grandfather. I am searching for any info on the Cooper's side. Her mother's name may be Amelia from NC but have NO proof. I know Ida is related to Wheatley's and Allison's but unsure how. Any info would be helpful.

I am researching Robert Emmitt Cooper, who came to WA Territory around 1887ish with his wife Anna & children. On this 1887 census Robert Emmitt appears to be living with R.C. Cooper with children Mabel and Willie. I'm looking for info it these cooper families are related & how.

Ida Cooper of South Carolina

Greetings to all. My grandmother was Ida Williams Hattaway of Columbia, SC. Her mother was also an Ida. Here's where things get tricky. My gr-grand Ida was married to Luther Williams and to a John Swygert before that. She is in some census polls as Ida Fetner with her parents being Archibald & Elizabeth. However, somewhere along the way Coopers come into play. My grandmother's death certificate has mother listed as Ida Cooper. In her obit she is survived by one brother, JW Cooper of Jacksonville, FL. She died January 1925; born about 1869. Any help figuring all these names out would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eric

John W COOPER Tries to End Own Life 1912 OK

...from the archives in Oklahoma City, OK:

The Daily Oklahoman
Tuesday
06-18-1912
p.2/12

OLD MAN TRIES TO END HIS LIFE

John W Cooper, the 60-year-old man who in a fit of
despondence wandered away from his brother's home at
1421 West Sixteenth street, Sunday morning, was
found by Norman Corbin, a newsboy, Monday morning
at about 7 o'clock, lying in the muddy waters of the
Deep Fork creek, one block northwest of the city
limits, with his windpipe almost severed and his
wrists badly bruised and cut. However, his chances
for recovery are bright.

When found by the newsboy, the old man was standing
knee-deep in the creek, vainly endeavoring to get a
drink of water, for as fast as he would swallow it,
the fluid ran out through the slash in his throat.

Cooper, who makes his home with brother, R.D. Cooper,
has been an invalid for some time, and for the last
three weeks has appeared very despondent.

The man was taken to the Wesley hospital and will
recover according to attending physicians, unless
further complications set in. As yet he has been
unable to talk, but managed to scribble off on a
scrap of paper an account of how he tried to "end
it all"; how he cut his throat and wrists with a
dull knife Sunday afternoon and then jumped into
the creek.

Mr Cooper was not married.

***posted for genealogical purposes only; no relation***

But his email address that appears online is no longer any good. Nor have I found his tree posted anywhere online. But strong suggestion point that he may have info on my Cooper line per what little info is on Cooper DNA testing page. If anyone could help and let me know what happen to MR G. Cooper.

Henry Hester COOPER, Sr and Cornelia Elizabeth O'BRIANT - Comanche Co., TX

Anyone researching Cooper's from Comanche Co., TX?
I'm typing up a Family Group sheet concerning this couple. I'm trying to find out Henry's parents name, plus where he was born. I'm preplexed with the 1900 census their listed on.... with a few other Cooper's. Also listed is Cornelia's widowed father Dennis Woodson O'Briant, Jr.

It states that Henry H. Cooper was b. Jan 1874 TN (father b. SC; mother b. AL, also on the same pg William H. Cooper b. Mar 1871 b. MS (father AL; mother GA). Then between the two of these fellows is Solomon A. Cooper age 48 b. Nov 1851 AL (father SC; mother SC) Solomon is living within the household of his son in law John Solomon age 33 b. Oct 1866, wife Martha and their family.

I've followed the paper trail of Henry and Cornelia Cooper from Comanche Co. to Jones Co. then to Fisher Co., TX. I'm figuring it's possible that I might find burial records...still looking.

Henry's WWI Registration states his given name is Henry Hester Cooper b. Jan 10, 1873.
The following Cooper children that I've been able to verify for this couple are: Priesley P.; Marshall M.; Reuben R.; Lucy J.; Cora May; Verna; Henry Hester Jr.; Lawrence L.; and Derring (spl?) D. Cooper.

Thank you
Catherine

I am looking for help with finding a grave of my mother's grandmother a woman who married a Cooper and was listed as Mrs. Cooper in Absolom S. Swishers Will of Adams County Illinois back in 1910.
I belive this Mrs. Cooper to be the long saught after Jenny Ellen Swisher who married a (James) Merritt Caves and then married a Cooper. They may have married and lived in Cooperstown, Adams County, Illinois or in that area. They may have had a daughter who married about five times and ended up in Los Angles California. But all most of this has came down thru the family history stories.

I AM TRYING TO FIND BIRTH DETAILS ON ANNIE COOPER (MY PATERNAL GREAT GRANDMOTHER). IN THE 1901 CENSUS SHE IS LISTED AS A BOARDER AGE 20 IN WALLINGFORD. HER PLACE OF BIRTH IS LISTED AS BRISTOL, SOMERSET. SHE WENT ON TO MARRY JOHN SODEN IN WALLINGFORD AND REMAINED LIVING IN WALLINGFORD UNTIL HER DEATH IN 1958. I ACQUIRED A COPY OF THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE AND IT STATES HER FATHER'S NAME WAS ROBERT COOPER. I HAVE SEARCHED ENDLESSLY AND THE ONLY CONNECTION I CAN FIND WITH A ROBERT AND AN ANNIE IS IN THE 1891 CENSUS. THIS LISTS ANNIES PLACE OF BIRTH AS NORWOOD IN SURREY. CAN ANYONE ADVISE WHERE TO LOOK NEXT? THANK YOU

My g-g-g-grandfather was M. Cooper, probably Madison, born in 1836. He was married twice, first to my ggg-grandmother Malinda Haynes. They had a daughter and one son, my gg-grandfather Madison Hanes Cooper, who was born in 1863. The younger Madison married Mary Nancy Holmes in 1902 and died in 1935. The elder Madison married again after Malinda apparently died. The second wife was Jane Miller, born in 1857. They had 3 daughters and three sons, Wiley, Bill, and Jesse. I know that Madison died in FL, but I do not know where he came from, who his parents are or when he was born. Anyone who knows anything would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for information about Henry Lewis Cooper Born July 18, 1879 in Texas. I only have two records on him...
1. a WWI Draft Registation Card which gives his b-day, and where he lived at the time, Romayor, Texas.
2. 1929 Census showing him in San Jacinto County, married to a May Cooper age 20 and showing his 3 children, Bernice Pearl Cooper, Judge Lewis Cooper, and Houston Cooper.
he is my Great Grandfather and I know very little about him other than he left his first wife, who was the mother of his children, named Hattie Ashley. And he had two more children with May who I do not know the names of. Any information at all on him would be greatly appreciated.

Cooper /Cowper question

I joined Ancestry.com last night & I've seen several trees that are part of my maternal "Baker" family. I saw this one:
http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/pedigree.aspx?tid=6694717&p...
There is an Elizabeth Jane Cooper who married Moses Jackson Baker. Elizabeth Jane Cooper would be my gg grandmother. As I looked it as this chart her father, my ggg grandfather's birth location was listed as Scotland & burial in Utah. In the Utah burial records he is listed as Cowper. The only record I saw on Ancestry was that he was buried in Utah. How would I find documentation that he is indeed my ggg grandfather? My family has southern roots and migrated through Arkansas & eventually settled in Texas.
It seems strange to me that everyone else seems to be located in the south & he was in Utah all alone. Also, I happen to know that the names beginning with my gg grandmother are all correct but I'm wondering how the researcher found the earlier names.
I would really like to know if he's from Scotland or not because I'm a fan of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series & I would dearly love to visit Scotland, lol!
I'm ordering FTM from BestBuy as soon as it's in stock again.
thanks, Rhoda Smith

Marquis L. Cooper of IN, IL, MO, AR

I'm at a standstill looking for my ancestors Marquis L. Cooper & his wife Julia A (nee White).

At the time of the 1880 Census, this family was residing in Loudon, Fayette County, IL.

Marquis L. Cooper: born 1840 in Indiana. His father (unnamed) was born in TN; his mother (unnamed) was born in VA.

Julia A. White: born 1836 in Virginia; both her parents were born in that state also.

[Notes of Interest:

There is a Marquis Cooper that resided in Mendota, LaSalle County, Illinois and enlisted in the 57th Illinois Infantry (some sources also say Company A) on November 12, 1861. He was mustered in on December 26th, 1861 in Chicago, Illinois. He was discharged for wounds on August 25th, 1862.

According to the 1850 Census, there is a Julia A. White (born circa 1833 in Virginia) aged 17 living in Monroe, Putnam, Indiana.

There is a Marcus Cooper that married a Julie A. White in Putnam County, Indiana on June 8, 1862.]

It is unclear as to whether or not these two people are the same as the couple in the 1880 Census, from which my Cooper line comes from.

Marquis owned and operated several sawmills and gristmills and moved extensively within Illionis, Missouri and Arkansas, where Juila eventually died circa 1887.

After this, I find no record of Marquis' movement, death or burial.

Their children are as follows:

Francis Marion Cooper was born in Hillsboro, Illinois on March 4th, 1866.

Julia A Cooper was born 1869 in Illinois.

Samanthy T. Cooper was born 1871 in Illinois.

Thomas Cooper (my great-grandfather) was born in Alton, Illinois on February 18th, 1873.

Hattie Cooper was born 1876 in Illinois.

If anyone has any information regarding this Cooper line or if any of these names sound familiar, I would love hearing from you. I'm most interested in the pedigree of Marquis & Juila as I find nothing in TN or VA records of their families.
