Looking for Johnathan, Robert (1793-1869), and Thomas (1748-1822) Copeland. Thomas was in Toronto Twp., Peel County in 1808 and 1819. Robert was in Etobicoke in 1819 and both men were buried in Dixon's Cemetery, Chinguacousy Twp., Peel Co. Johnathan was in Etobicoke in 1819 as well. I am researching the 2nd York Militia in which they served as privates during the War of 1812 and would like to have their family history and relationship to each other. I have additional documents.

Carole:
This is Maxine Davies here, and I descend from the Copeland family. My line originates with my grandfather, Edmund Jay Buckley,b 10 July 1882 in Aurora, Cloud County,Kansas d 1956 in Concordia, Cloud Co., KS. His parents were James William Buckley & Martha Poston, her parents were Isaac Newton Poston &Elizabeth Baker, Isaac parents were Richard Poston & AMELIA ELIZABETH COPELAND b 1793 in TN. D/o Steven Calvin Copeland & Sarah Jane Townsend.
I think we have made contact in the past. I'm working on this family now and would like who the ancestors were before Joseph Copeland who married Mary Woodley? I lack the DOB for these two.
I know it is a lot to ask of you, but if you could help me it would be so very much appreciated. And I want to take this opportunity to offer any information of the Poston family or Buckley family if it might be needed by some one.
Thanking you in advance for any help. Just ask.
Is there a Copeland family organization? If so I'd like information. Again thanks.

Maxine

Thanks for all the information but it sounds like you have found most of what I found. I believe Esaw Copeland is connected to my Ishmael Copeland, I believe his wife Holley Bilbrey Copeland sister to Esaw Copelands wife which is Blibrey. I believe in the 1860 Texas County census they are living next door to each other. Also Esaw Copeland and his wife our mentioned in the old bible I have. Larry

Previous citing all children match with some variations in spelling of their names. By 1880 census nothing on Ishmael but Holly listed as H.M. Tate. I know it is same person because child Vandolin listed on all previous census. Not sure where Tate came from except that Vandolin married Lavenia Tate (Lou Vean and other spellings.)

Cannot find him in TN. My brother and cousin made a trip to TN a few years ago. There is an entire county that is almost entirely Copelands but they could not make any definite connections.

Looking for Relatives of J.C. Copeland

My name is Sheila Copeland Jankus and I'm trying to locate information on my grandfather James C. Copeland. I know he had 3 sons, Melvin, Ronald (my father) and Jay.
I know he lived and died in Texas and I believe that Jay still lives there. I believe Melvin lives or lived in Florida.
At some point J.C. lived in Gilbertown, Alabama where he met my grandmother Annie Lois Dixon and had my father. They lived in Gilbertown, as well as Claxton, Ga. where he worked for a trucking co.
He worked on oil rigs in Texas and stayed in the oil business in some capacity until he retired. I believe he died in or around 1986.
I am attaching photos of him.

I would appreciate any information anyone might have on George Washington Copeland, born November 1875, died in June 1945. This is my great-grandfather. I know of the G.W. Copeland in the 1880 census of Graves County, KY., but cannot prove that this is my ancestor. I can trace him back to his marriage to Martha Ann Boen in Conway County, AR., but that's as far as I can get and I've been searching for years. Thanks.

Tom, it's a pity that your e-mail address no longer works. Will abstract some info from the message that just bounced back to me.

I’ve heard quite a bit through the years about “Big Joe” Copeland. Never really gave much thought to his wife’s maiden name being Ward, but I’m highly curious about the possibility that these people may’ve been my 3X great grandparents. Grandma Florence Poe Wilkie used to say that her dark complexion was as a result of her ancestry in the Ward family. I see that Hannah was Cherokee, which would explain a lot.

I wonder if you have any record of “Big Joe” and Hannah having a daughter who married a Wilkerson and died young? My 2X great grandma Margaret (nee Wilkerson) Johnson was born between 1810 and 1815, in Chatham County, NC. I have never found the given names of either of her parents, but my grandparents’ generation knew that her mother’s maiden name was Copeland and that she was raised by maternal relatives. She had a red-haired twin. Their mother died in childbirth; their father (a Wilkerson) returned to his home place in Ireland with the red-haired twin.

I'm afraid all the info I have on him is that he used to visit my grandparents quite often during the '20s and '30s at their fishing lodge on Temagami Island, Ontario, Canada. I do have this digital photo as well as a scanned copy of a letter he wrote to my grandmother when my grandfather died in a boating accident on the lake in 1938. I am including the photo but I can't attach the letter as it is in PDF. If you email me at jumpherson@gmail.com, I can send the letter as well as ask my mother any specific questions your mother might have as she remembers him somewhat from when she was a child there and may be able to help. My grandparents pictured here are Cecil and Doris Wilson.

Hi Grant!
I know this is an "old" post BUT if you are still there...contact me!

We both have a Hugh Copeland who lived in Enniskillen during similar times (though mine was slightly older). Yours married an Egerton(?) I believe - mine married first a Harpur then an Armstrong. Both Hughs died in the 1840s. Yours...family imigrated to Canada..mines family went to America and later to Australia.

In an obit for "my" Hugh's son James it states..."MY" Hugh was known as "the Good Hugh" to diferentiate himself from his cousin. I think THIS is a BIG clue in our research. That yes they were cousins...but different. And I think it is important that anyone researching this line SHOULD know the difference.

PLEASE contact me!!! I think THIS is something we need to talk about!!!!!!!

Sue in NY

I'm searching for info related to the death of Ammon Josias Copeland. He was born January 1898 in San Jacinto County, TX and was murdered outside a church in March 1932. The incident occurred either near Point Blank or Staley TX; both in San Jacinto County. The killers are believed to be two brothers, last name Lee, who were angry after Ammon turned them in for stealing one of his calves.
This is mostly unconfirmed. Any details that can be provided would be appreciated.
Thanks
Blister62

Hi

Wow! Thanks for the picture. It looks like Albert Edward Vincent Cousins on the right hand side. Are you sure this is Copeland family and not Cousins family?

I'm a bit confused about what you've said about Ellen ... she should be Ellen (Nellie) Cousins, not Copeland, as she is the daughter of Emily Copeland and Albert Edward Vincent Cousins.

Have you started to put your tree on Ancestry? If so, you'll see lots of hints from my family tree, which you can accept. I've been quite careful and tried to keep things evidence-based.

You can also send me private messages rather than putting information and pictures on these public boards.

Hope to hear from you again soon!

Hello Cousin!

Based on what you have said, you are a cousin and this is the same family. There were 13 children altogether and I'm so glad to hear that you are a descendent of Ellen (Nellie). My grandfather (John Cousins) was close in age to Nellie and I have a couple pictures of her when she was a girl. They were from Hammersmith/Notting Hill area in London. I have done quite a bit of research and connected with three different descendent families.

Please can you tell me where Nellie and Ted (Edward) lived? Where are you located?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Janine Fleming

Hi,we have just seen your post,we have recently started the copeland family tree, and was wondering if you had found any more information out on the bonner side, we have found that he married a sarah bonner which was his first wife and had a son called william, from what we can see he never lived with sarah.
if you if have any further information that you could share with us we would appreciate it.
Do you have any further information on Thomas copeland born 1764?
Kind regards

Clare & Simon

Jill Smith,
I met Jenny Cottrell and Mr. Cottrell at their store in Davis, Oklahoma on trip many years ago. If I remember correctly, she was the aunt of my father (John Timothy Copeland, Jr.), and so she was my great aunt.

I would love to find out where George Coleman Copeland came from and where his parents came from.

Thanks for pursuing this.

Best regards,

Bill (John William) Copeland
