Hi, I'm related through a few corbitts by marriage, one of my great great uncles married a Lilian Corbitt. They're both from Mississippi and moved to Toledo, Ohio. I read Lilian's obituary and it said that she was from Greenwood, Mississippi and her husband James-Leslie Russell Jr who is my great great uncle was born in Calhoun, Mississippi. I think I talked to you a few years ago through email about the Russell family page that you made on Rootsweb. Also are you related to the Blueitts or know anything about them.

In the 1880 Fulton County, IL Census, Amanda and Harrison Corbitt are listed as the grandchildren of David and Susannah Corbitt. I will search futher to see if I can determine which of the sons of David and Susannah are the parents of Amanda and Harrison. By the way, Harrison is the maiden name of Susannah.
I have a Corbitt family from southern Illinois, too. My step great grandfather was Frank Eugene Corbitt who married Leona Dell Baugh.

We may be related. My great-grandmother was Nancy Corbitt, second child of a Richard Corbitt. She was born 1835 in TN. It looks like Tom or Thomas was the 10th child and born in 1856. It looks like there was a total of 15 children in the family.

Good morning Corbitt/Corbett families,

My great grandmother was Nancy Corbitt. She married Frederick O’Brient/O’Briant in Rutherford Co., TN – 25 Aug 1853 and her younger sis S. Lucinda Corbitt married my great grandfathers brother Willis Cornelius O’Briant at Eagleville, Williamson Co., TN in 1860 and both had large families. Nancy and S Lucinda’s father was Richard Corbitt. Their mother is only listed as Jane.

The dates I have for Richard Corbitt are: Born bet. 1809 and 1814 in North Carolina. Jane was born abt. 1826 in TN.

Does this Corbitt group match with your research.

We seem to have the same Corbitt line. My great grandmother was Nancy. She married Frederick OBriant in TN. My mother was Charlotte Beatrice OBryant/White and my grandfather was John Robert OBrient/OBriant/OBryant. I have photos,etc. if we are a connection...and if you would like to trade ancestral photos.

Have you found out any more info since we last communicated? I have found out that what was thought to be Tiffiara, which we then thought was meant to be Tipperary, may actually be Tifeaghna, in Co. Kilkenny. Apparently in the home tongue it may sound like Tiffiara. So I'm starting to look for Patrick and Mary's roots there now.

For some reason I missed your post. I have a picture of Samuel Hence Corbitt and also one of Fannie Dickerson Corbitt that someone sent me several years ago. My email has changed also, rweaver1@charter.net.

I am looking for any info on a "Marguerette C. Corbitt" in the 1910 Federal Census of Pototac Co., OK. She is listed as the head of the house, widowed, age 51, born in TX and her parents born in Mississippi. I do not know her maiden name.
(I tried to attach the Census page as a JPG image.)

Her children are listed as such:

Ruth W, 16
Clayburn L, 12
Mary L Henry(?), 26 and her husband Elija Henry, 28.

Karen, I don't remember if we have already spoken (or email). Do you live in or near Summersville, WV? If so your grandfather is buried in the Peck Cemetery (also called the McCoy Family Cemetery (located on the old Peck Farm off Rt 41). His grave is outside the fenced area. His brother George (my granddad) and their mother Mariah is buried there also (inside the fenced area - closest to the road). I have dob, dod and other info if you are still interested. i have never said there were no native americans in the Corbett/Corbitt family, only that I had not come across one that was related tot he family I am searching from Tennessee, and Kentucky. I do have some inclination to think that on my mother's side of the family, a jackson out of North Carolina could have been married to a Cherokee, not for sure, but she certainly resembles a Native American person.

I have a Thomas Corbit (Corbett) in my line that was married to a Nancy Cox from MO (1832)(her parents are thought to be William and Catherine Cox). My Thomas was from IRE and immigrated in 1850's, marriage in 1856 in MO. Don't think we have the same Thomas and Nancy, but thought I would check. Thomas and Nancy had children in MO and then moved to TX where Thomas died bet 1890-92. Please let me know if there are any connections.

I am looking for information on James Newton Corbitt. Later the spelling changed to Corbett. James was born 1822 in TN. He married Sarah M. Bayliss (1829 Kentucky) in Montgomery County, TN. They had 6 children Eugene, Macey, Newton, Francis, William, Robert and Susan. They were in Montgomery County in 1850 then in Nashville in 1860 according to the census. James was a riverboat captain. Been looking for many years to find out where he was born and more about his family.
