Hello Mike

Are you still intersted in researching the Corfes. They are a very interesting family and I have quite a bit of information I am happy to share. My husband and you meet on the family tree a couple of generations back from Joseph but I have a fair bit of info on Joseph himself who seems to have been quite a character.

Anne

Hi Barbatalice

I know it is a while since you posted this but if you are still interested and it helps any Charles Carteret Corfe had a brother, Herbert Henderson Corfe who was a coffee planter in Ceylon or Sri Lanka as it is now. His address has been given as Colombo which is not far from Galle where Emily left from. Seems likely to me that they met in Ceylon.

Anne

I am researching Emily Hudson EVISON who married Charles Carteret CORFE in Melbourne, Aust in Dec 1874.
Emily is the younger sister of Joseph Spence EVISON, my husband's great grandfather, who died in Sydney in 1903.
I am interested in where and how Emily and Charles met - they both arrived in Melb in Dec 1874 and married the next day! Emily embarked for Aust in Port de Galle (Ceylon?). Charles came over from NZ. Does anyone know if they could have met in Ceylon?

barbatalice
barbatalice

I was researching Arthur Thomas Corfe and Elizabeth College, Guernsey when I came upon this site.

I am a great x 4 grandson of Joseph & Mary via Arthur Thomas, Rev Arthur Thomas, Charles Carteret, Arthur Cecil, and James Michael.

I was prompted to look into the family tree as Joan Hackworth, great niece of Bishop Charles John, (grandson of Arthur Thomas via Charles William - brother of Rev Arthur Thomas)tracked me down and inspired me to do some research.

On 1 November 2009 there will be a service at Westminster Abbey to commemorate the consecration of Charles John as the First Bishop of Korea in 1889.

I wonder if there might be any interest in attending this service and the buffet lunch afterwards? Closing date for applications is imminent so do get in touch with me soon if you think this might be of interest.

I came across your 2002 entry today!!
My Corfe ancesters are all London based, with John Corfe married to Elizabeth Coe. J born in Hackney 20.6.1768, d in Islington 4.8.1841. E d Islington 19.6.1851. J father was William but unable to trace any details of him. The line down from J is William b Hoxton 22.10.1797 to his son Thomas (my GGF) b1830, to Thomas Charles b1860 in Hampstead
TC moved to Brentwood Essex c1900 to open a furniture shop in Brentwood. My main problem is trying to trace the line pre-London. Does any of this link with you?
Brian Wright

I have many pieces of Corfe genealogical history having researched many years ago. I may be able to help you but you may have to wait a while - say about ten days. Is the Deidre Corfe mentioned - a nun? Were the two other Corfes twins and residing in the Frodsham area? JMC

I have just been told you are looking for info on John Edward Corfe father of William Michael Corfe, John Denis Corfe and Deirdre Corfe. I did a great deal of genealogical research many years back and I have a feeling I have got information on them but it is buried in 'deep archives' in my loft. I will need to try to find it but am unable to for about ten days.

Am I right that Deidre was a Roman catholic nun possibly in a convent in the Norfolk area. Am I also correct in thinking that the William Michael and Denis were twins in the Frodsham area of Cheshire? It is many years since I dealt with these records so please don't take these factys as gospel. Regards Michael Corfe

Maureen.

All our research goes back to John Corfe born in 1768, we have a Fredrick Ernest Corfe (1896-1922) the son of Athur Corfe b.1858, the son of George Corfe (1827-1876) the son of William Corfe 1797-1878 who was the son of John Corfe. Does this fit any of your family research, if not we may have information thatcan join up some of questions.

IF you know your Corfe was in ANY of these places, chances are they are part of the info I have collected.

I seemed to acquire info relevant to descendants of Joseph and Mary Bernard CORFE and found a couple of friendly living descendants along the way too. Now have LOTS of info, and even a photo of Charles Carteret CORFE, born Guernsey, Channel Islands, keen cricketer, mathematician and school principal. He was a son of Arthur Thomas Corfe and wife Margaret Maingay who were at Elizabeth College, Gsy for many years, before returning to Salisbury.

would be delighted to share the info, and add some to totally finish off my CURTOYS family tree.

Most of the Corfes seem to be around the Wirral area of Cheshire. Also Liverpool, just a short boat trip across the Mersey. Have you looked there?

Regards,

Ann Sadler

Joann

Not really sure whether there is any tie between Corfee and Corfe but I am sure that there must be somewhere. If I do find anything which links them I will let you know. Corfe Castle must have some link to the family history but I don't know where, that is part of what I am trying to trace. Many thanks again for your message. Where are you?
