I know for a fact that there are other graveyards in the area o Tipperary, with McCormacks buried there. Don't pay for it. I have done it in the near past. I got pictures of the tombstones going back to early 1700's. It is all documented; try the LDS (don't get converted, Jesus is Lord!) or the Parishes records. Along the way you'll meet other people with the same interests, very probably some distant relatives. God Bless. Victor P's watch out with those McCormacks!

I was in Tipperary on August 2010; I visited a cemetery named Boulick Burial Ground in Tipperary, and I found some McCormacks buried there; Robert, Ellen, John & Michael (I am reading from the picture I got) My curiosity was sparked because I am a MacCormack (Cormack) descend but from Caithness, Wick, Scotland. My gfather Benjamin Gunn Cormack married Lucy Gair Jane Miller; this just in case there's some braves wondering around (from Scotland the Brave)you Mc's must have a sense of humor, since the original Cormacks are from the Highlands in Scotland (lol) Please, let's not argue about it, I have an Scottish temper (grrr)

Catherine was living in Ballyedmond, Queen's County. She would most likely have been born in the mid to late 1790's. She and John had a son Michael born in 1826 at Ballyedmond. There were several Cormack families in Loughmoe and of course it was the ancestral home of one of the Purcell families.

It would be interesting to find that there is a connection. I am currently trying to find the marriage record for Michael Cormack amd Mary Purcell, and hoping it has the name of their parents. Do you have any info on your Catherine Purcell? Where she is from? I can't locate a marriage record in Tipperary even though their son was born in 1866.

My great great great grandfather John Cormack was born at Lochmoe, in Tipperary.According to the family narrative he drifted up to Ballyedmond in Queens County where he married Catherine Purcell.Perhaps their is a connection. The family also said they were related to the famous Cormack Brothers but did not know how.

My Great Grandfather was William Francis McCormack, born in Tipperary Ireland. His father was Michael McCormack and mother was Mary Purcell. I found a birth record on the Irish Family History Foundation for William Cormack, born 20 Mar 1866 whose father was Michael Cormack and mother was Mary Purcell. I believe this is his birth record. It lists his address as Grange, Parish/District as Kilcooley, and County as Tipperary. William Francis McCormack immigrated to Arlington, Massachusetts around 1892 and married Annie Robertson. Is anyone related to these Cormack's. I would like to hear from you.

Hello folks…looking for any possible info you might be able to provide on his parents. I have been looking without success, and will defer to the better sleuths on this board.

DOB in Pa - 24 March 1896 – Died November 1967 in Maple Shade, NJ.
I have found in a Pa 1910 Census that he may have lived with his Grandfather Tilghman Baker. So if true, his mother might have a last name of “Baker”. The odd thing here is that he lists in the Pa 1920 Census his mother as from NJ, and father from Canada. Going back to the 1910 Census, it lists his father from Massachusetts, and mother from Pa. Not far off, but no match.

He was first married to Elizabeth C Maloney in a 1917, and his 2nd to Rose E Steuber in 1930 which I was able to find through the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Marriage Indexes, 1885-1951.

I was hoping someone might be better at tracking his parental info. Appreciate anything you might be able to provide.

Best,
JG
Thank you for looking, I have not been able to find the parents of Charles Richard Cormac, DOB is 24 March 1896 in Pa. I have found 1910 Census data showing a grandfather as Tilghman Baker, so I would have to guess his mother was a baker, but that could be wrong, as all census data given has his mother as being born in NJ, vs all the Baker family from Pa. Also conflicting census(1910 vs 1920) data showing Father from Canada / Massachusetts. I have his death as Nov 1967 in Maple Shade, NJ. Was hopeful someone out there might be able to shed some light here. Apprech whatever you might be able to provide.

Thank you.

Hi Rob,

All very interesting (apart from the violence bit). I will get John to ask his uncle (also John)as he would be the historian in the family. The area of Tipperary they hail from is called Loughmore. But I suspect there are other Comack families scattered across the county.

It may take a forthnight or so but I will let you know.

For your information there is a famous/infamous set of Cormack Brothers in Tipperary who gained great notoriety by being falsely accused and hung by the British Government. They became martyrs/heroes as a result.

Perhaps you could try googling them

Jane

My grandmother married a Stephan Michael McCormack in London in 29.03.1904. He was born 1884. They had 2 daughters, before she left him about 1910, as he was violent towards her and their 2 girls, Kathleen and Doris. He became a policeman and died 1939.
His father was Patrick Cormack born 1841 (I believe), in Tipperary.
He had married Maria Elizabeth Gore 17.01.1868 in London City and he died 1910. He had been a Policeman in London.
The wedding certificate shows his father as John Cormack who would have been born about 1820 also in Tipperary ??
He was shown as a Farmer. Patrick and Maria are shown on census of 1871,1881 and 1891 as Cormack, with their children. The 1901 census has them as McCormack at 8, Northumberland Alley, London. Why he changed all their names could be linked to trying to disguise their Irish roots, by adding Mc to the name.
My cousins, who are children from Doris have also been trying to trace back to Cormack's of Tipperary, but I have not been able to be more specific about what area, as have not been able to confirm Patrick's birth, although I think it is 1841.
I hope this info is of help and I would be interested to hear from you again.
Regards
Rob

My husband is a Cormack from Tipperary. They would be farming in Tipp certainly for over 100 years. The family names would be John, William, Patrick. There would be other Cormack Families also - unrelated. Can you be more specific in terms of area. Why did your ancestors change the name?

I am aware of a John G Cormack who settles in North Bay from pembroke, he is the first druggist in North Bay as well as the first city clerk - he would later be mayor, about the turn of the century. Also a prominant member of the masonic lodge.

I am trying to trace his history prior to North Bay.

My William was born in Roadside Whitechapel in 1782. He moved to Deptford about 1792. He married Sarah Dalgety of Bermondsey in 1812 and had at least six children, William John b. 1813, Elizabeth Sarah b. 1815, Jemima b.1817, John b. 1818, Henry Dalgety b. 1820, Sarah b. 1821. All born Deptford or New Cross. He inherited a successful market garden and seedsman business from his father. I have lots of information about this, the most interesting fact is that John, his father, went into business with George Sinclair, who is credited with writing up an experiment in planting grasses that gave Darwin the idea of the basis for, 'Origin of Species.'
I have some information on other William Cormacks, so if you can give me some more info I might be able to find your's.
My family tree is available on Ancestry as 'Cormack Family Tree'. In fact, for some reason, I think it is up there twice. It isn't yet complete. One day I will find the time to finish it!

Hi Carol, I have wondered about the Whitechapel one, and have tried to claim him! I wonder if they could be cousins? "My" William Cormack marries Ann Turnnedge 19.10.1811 in Woodford and they have children in Woodford 1815, 1817, 1820, 1822, 1824. He is buried 4.2.1840. There was also a "stray" William Cormack in the area who could have been born about 1812 (I think I found his burial only) who could have been their first child. I would be interested to know more about your William.
Linda

I have a William Cormack born 1782 in Whitechapel East London but don't think this is who you are looking for as he married in Bermondsey in 1812 and died in 1861 in Peckham south London. He was the son of John Cormack and Elizabeth (Probably Elizabeth Frimlin)No dates. John had a brother called William and William's appears in each generation. The family later had connections with Woodford, Leytonstone and Wanstead. Do you have any more deatils? I have a lot of information on Cormacks.

Hi Dani
I have loads of Elizabeth Cormacks in my tree but don't immediately recognize yours. Where did your find her Birth.
Here are 3 around that time but maybe others with incorrect spelling: www.familysearch.org
1. ELIZABETH CORMACK - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 09 JUN 1813 Wick, Caithness, Scotland
2. ELISABETH CORMACK - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 04 MAY 1816 Wick, Caithness, Scotland
3. ELIZABETH CORMACK - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 15 NOV 1816 Latheron, Caithness, Scotland.
Did they marry in UK. Scotland or England? Do you know where he was from?
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk is the official Scottish records site. I have a fair bit on Caithness Cormacks so if you have anymore data let me know. In Scotland naming pattern was usually used for children at that time ; 1st son and 2nd daug after fathers parents. 1st daug and 2nd son from mother's parents. Of course not all children registered -espcially when infant deaths etc.
Tricia.
Born in Wick Caithness.
