Hi Everyone,
I am originally from Michigan as well, the Mt. Clemens area. My pedigree is uploaded on ancestry.com but I am happy to send anyone my info. Also, I have all of my grandfather's photos from PA loaded on a personal website that you can access at stallionservices.com/ancestry. Through marriage, some of the Cornelius family married into the Rice family around the southern Michigan-northern Ohio area. Just FYI. My e-mail is robin@stallionservices.com. Thanks a bunch. Robin Cornelius DeRue

Nancy, have been trying to find my connections in the Cornelius family for 8 years. My grandfather James Abel Cornelius would only say he came from Upstate New York.!!! Nobody knows any more then that!!Being from Michigan I do not know what exactly what upstate New York implies.

Grandad was born July 3 1873, and all I know is upstate New York.

His father was George and his mother was Elsie Cody. Have very little on them also. I have heard that george also had 2 other sons. one became a dentist, and the other a Mortician My granddad was (supposedly) disowned of sorts because he married beneath himself to my grandma Emma Bates here in Bay City Michigan.
Well to make this shorter, I am following up on anything from Newy York I can!!. I have my husbands genealogy done back to the 1500's and am stuck on my own family.

I would love to know the names in the cemetery also. Am not a member of this findagrave.com but will try and join so I can see these pics. Anything else you could share would be greatly appreciated.. God's blessings to you, Bev Reou

Hi Nancy,
I would be interested in seeing the photos of the graves if you care to send them. My name is Robin Cornelius and I have been hunting my Cornelius lines. I can trace my father's paternal line back only so far and I know that Daniel Cornelius was born in New York. I do not have his father or mother's name so I am following every lead. I also belong to find-a-grave. My e-mail address is robin@stallionservices.com. Thank you.

I would love to find out which Cornelius' are in that graveyard. I know my William and his son John Cornelius were both born in Orange County, but moved to Pennsylvania. I can't seem to find out who William's dad was. I use FindAGrave a lot, so will be glad to find these stones there. Thank you.

I do not know anything about the Cornelius family, but I have found numerous Cornelius graves that were obviously once on their family farm, but are now in the middle of Farmingdale New York on a busy street called Fulton St. I have been intrigued about this little tiny cemetery tucked between a gas station and an apartment building.. I have been planning on going in there since I noticed it 7 years ago. I finally did - I wasn't able to photograph all but I do have several - there appears to be about 12 graves - the city has fenced it off and it does appear that they are mowing it. If anyone would like information please contact me.
I am going to go back and take more photos when there is better light. Also I think I will post the graves that I did photograph on FindAGrave.com.

I am also researching the Cornelius Line. I come down from David Cornelius then his son Clifford Cornelius. Clifford was married to a Elma(various spellings)English. Their daughter Hazel married my 2nd great grandpa Loy Doe. I have always heard that Elma came to Ohio from PA. to escape an abusive marriage. She came with her 5 young daughters. I have yet to prove this. Elma and the girls have been found in Fostoria Ohio but not Clifford. Trying to figure him out.

He was the one who responded to the earlier post about information on Cornelius land in Red River County Texas last December.

If he does not respond to this post I will gladly pay you for it so at least it will stay in the family.

Alas, I do not have today's New York Times obits (Sunday, January 1, 2012), but a fantastic prominent lady who gave much good to this world, last name Miller, died. The obit mentions the names of her Cornelius parents.

Still looking for early to mid-1950's New Jersey public and private school teachers, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius, a bit chubby in then middle age; generous, cheerful. They once had a (pray to communicate to dead around a table--can't spell word?) in the Woodcastle School for Boys (Robert Clifton "Tony" Lumpkin, PhD, headmaster), 4th floor tower room where they lived. The ghost of Mr. Beatty then ignored us, as it died his wife's earlier attempts to reach him. Sarah C. Beatty, Jan 9, 1888--Aug 9, 1975.

We (early 1950's) tried to contact Mr. Wm. H. N. Beatty, who died there March 31, 1931, who built the once home as "Castle Utopia". By-the-way, his grandson born there, Bob Beatty of Vero Beach, Florida; has terminal cancer. It was near Liberty Corner, N.J., off Somerville Road. Now off, 1 Shadowbrook Lane. Now named Phareloch Castle, home of Steven Fieldstein. It can be seen at: http://www.fieldstienfinancial.com/pharelochcastlehome.html. The tower room roof tip is on Google Maps at: Lat 40* 38' 58.36" N, Lng 74* 36' 18.00" W.

I was a Woodcastle boarding student from Long Hill Road, N.J.

This is your line. Absalom was father to William Pryor (W.P.), Matthias A.(M.A.), and father-in-law to Maria J.(M.J.) who was Thomas J.'s widow. My family has virtually nothing passed down concerning the Cornelius/Ward side. All I have is from other researchers and courthouse records. This spring I am going to attempt to locate the site of the original farm that I believe Absalom is buried on in Bowie Co. I am trying to locate Absolom's and William N Wallis/Wallace, his son-in-law's (my GG Grandfather) graves on the property. There is alot of records on line and in courthouses on the Cornelius/Ward famalies. I will answer any questions I can, Good luck and good hunting.

James (Dan) Light

Hi, I'm just starting to look around here. These may be a line of mine. I've got to find the old family Bibles to confirm. But I seem to remember seeing an Absolom listed as that rings a bell. W. P. Cornelius might be William Pryor who is my g,g,grandfather. And the R. W. Cornelius might have been transposed and could be W. R. for William Ragin Cornelius. M. A. and M. J. don't ring to me. I would be interested in more on this.

Wm.

Lucy

The article in the 2003 Clark Co journal is the article written by Shirley Graham, my wife.

If you read the article, I believe that it will answer most of your questions about the Cornelius family. We know for sure that Jester & Reuben Ragland's mother was named Mary. Mary is the only name that there is proof of. Mary was born between 1770/1780. If you look at the article in the Clark Co journal on page 128, the lady named Margaret born 1785 was most likely married to Claborn Cornelius, brother-in-law of Mary born 1780/1790.
Most people have combined Mary & Margaret into the same person, however the Clark County journal article clears that situation up. We do not know the first name of Mary's husband, neither does any other researcher. We have suspicions of who this person is but no proof. Neither Mary or the unknown Cornelius are from Ireland.
We know for sure that Mary was married to a man nmed Keith. She has a son Nicholas Keith that proves this.
She may have been married to a Crow but no proof is available.
We do know the Mary's daughter Kizziah Cornelius married James Walter Crow 30 Sep 1821 In Union Co IL. This may account for the story about Mary being married to a Crow.
I assume that your father is Reuben Edward Jr., born 6 Nov 1914.
Mary Della Stroud's father is Isaac B. Stroud born Apr 1836 in GA. Her mother was Mary E. born Sep 1840. Three of Mary Della's siblings are George M. Stroud, William M. Stroud & Lucy Stroud born Sept 1880 in Cobb Co GA.
I believe you will be able to answer most of your questions about the Cornelius family if you review the 1983 Clark Co journal closely.
The cemetery that you mentioned (Nubbin Hill) is Missionary Grove in Nevada Co Arkansas. I went to church there when I was younger. The name Nubbin Hill was adopted because it is located on a rocky hill and all of the corn grown on this hill did not do well. The ears were only nubbins, so the name for the Church.
I do not know anything about Reuben Edward & Della Strous's family. I would like to have that information if possible.
Let me know how else I can be of help.

Arlis

Judy,
I have traced my line back to a Daniel H. Cornelius (1809-1869) buried in Pelton Cemetery, McKean County, Pa. Just down the street is Farmers Valley Cemetery, McKean Cty as well, where David E. Cornelius (1808-1865)is buried. I believe they were brothers since Daniel is mentioned in David's will and they are listed side by side on 1836 McKean County Tax rolls. Federal Census' states they their father was born in New York. Daniel's wife, Delila Otto, is buried in Farmers Valley too. David's wife was Cynthia Rice. I have pictures posted (many unidentified) from an 1862 photo album and later scrapbooks. You can view them at StallionServices.com/ancestry. Thanks for writing, I will check out the Tobias Cornelius line. Robin Cornelius DeRue

Amy,

Sorry I have not replied earlier. I am a photo lab manager and am in the middle of installing a new printer so I do not check Ancestry every night.

I am the grandson of Robert A Wallace, Roland's oldest son born 1872 in Webster Parish, La.

What point do you need information from? Roland and Thomas J moving to Louisiana? Roland's Confederate Army service? I am happy to share anything I have found as others have generously shared with me.

Most information I have on the Roland L Wallace family deals with the Phillips, Goodson, Cornelius, and Ward families relationships with the Wallis/Wallace family from the late 1700's thru 1900. These were truly facinating families.

Just let me know what you need or from what point you are at a brick wall and I will do my best to help you and send you what I have.

James D Light, your 2nd Cousin once removed
