Thank you Ed! I believe my mother in laws Great Grandfather was George W. Cornett 1888-1947. Parents were John(Elijah) and Winnie? I believe his brother was Grover? He married Etta Hatcher Cornett. He and Etta had 7 kids, one of them being my mother in laws grandmother. I just followed the leaves and it led me to William Cornett. I hope my information is correct.

The family of William Jesse Cornett is covered in the booklet " Genealogy Of William Cornett, 1761-1836" by John Dixon Cornett. privately published in 1938. William was a Revolutionary War soldier and is buried in the Cornett Family Cemetary , next to the old Cornett Cabin near Cornettsville, KY. The cabin is still inhabited by Cornett descendants, and is the oldest occupied dwelling in Ky., I'm told. A Cornett Family reunion is held at the cabin each year in May.

Yes, the book is "The Cornett Family" by Essie Richardson Cornett. Published by vantage Press,516 West 34th St., New York City. NY. in 1971. Her husband, was Grover Cleveland Cornett. The late Grover Cleveland Cornett and I are both descendants of William Cornett, a Revolutionary War soldier who founded Cornettsville, in Perry County , KY., in the late 1790s. William was a son of John Cornett (Canute) of Grayson & Henrico Counties, Virginia. Tax rolls of the area in the mid 1700s show both Canute & Cornett as the spelling of the family name. I believe John Cornett, and several sons , came from England in the mid 1700s.

Ed Cornett

enrico Counties, Virginia

Does anyone know anything about a Sarah Cornett marrying Nathan Presnell who was born 16 Jul 1838. I would guess they married around 1868-69. We all thought he married once and it was a Sarah Shupe/Shoop. But now I have found death certificates for some of his children. The one for my direct ancestry lists Sarah Cornett as his mother. Cornett's lived in the area but I can't find anything else to link a to Sarah Cornett to Nathan Presnell.

Mary (Polly) POLLY, was the eldest daughter of Edward (Ned) POLLY and Jane Buntin Adams POLLY. She was born March30, 1828 in the state of Indiana. She married Stephen CORNETT on Dec. 3, 1848. I believe Stephen was born abt. 1832 in Harlan County, Kentucky. The CORNETT family moved to Missouri about 1853. Stephen died March 16, 1897 in Rocky Mount, Morgan, Missouri. Mary died in 1880 in Missouri City, Fort Bend, Texas.
Stephen was the son of Jesse H. Cornett (1795-1887) and Nancy Branham Smith (1795-1850)
Jesse was the son of John Samuel Cornett (1759-1849) and Mary Benham (1774-1795)
John was the son of John L. Cornett (1737-1796) and Elizabeth Bacon Mosby (1739-1801)
John L. was the son of Earl Canute (1696-1781) and Ann (1697-1767) Earl was born in Southhampton, England and came to Henrico, Virginia.
In 1860, a Joseph Polly, age 14, was living with the family. He later became Joseph Cornett. He could have been born out of wedlock.
Edward was born Jan. 15, 1850, William was born Jan. 24, 1852, John L. was born March 3, 1854, David was born March 1, 1860, Mahala was born Feb. 18, 1862, Hiram was born abt. 1865, James was born abt. 1867, Elizabeth (Bettie) was born abt. 1869, and Mary was born abt.1872.
Apparently Mary died at or after the birth of Mary in 1872.
John L. Cornett married Elizabeth Walters on May 11, 1871
William Cornett married Wlizabeth Willson on April 30, 1878
David Cornett married Alice Landrum
Hiram Cornett married Frances Cooper on April 24, 1896
Elizabeth Cornett married B.
Hello Jen,
I am researching Cornett in Perry, KY. My grand father was Claude James Cornett, son of James Cornett and Margaret Fitzpatrick, James was son of Granville Cornett and Hettie Hogg. Granville was son of Anderson Cornett b. 1820 and Susan Harris. Does this tie into any of yours?

The April 9, 1923, edition of the Atlanta Constitution has an article mentioning Elizabeth Cornett as Mrs. Elizabeth Tyler Grow. It says she is is bad health and about to enter the hospital for a surgery from which she may not emerge. This fits with the 1924 date of her death, I hope I remembered the year of her death correctly.

This is an article concerning the claim from Dr. Evans that she and E. Y. Clarke were supporting Simmons and trying to throw Dr. Evans from the Grand Wizard seat.
Apparently, Mr. Tyler was her second husband. Her first husband, according to her claim in 1906, was Owen C. Carroll. The Atlanta Constitution, on July 16, 1913, has a large article about the death of Joshua B. Crawford, her grand uncle. Joshua B. Crawford left an estate worth $250,000. It is alleged that a woman married him to kill him and get his money. The article is about a court hearing due to his death. A few other Crawfords are mentioned.

Mrs. Elizabeth Cornett Tyler is mentioned as a grandniece who is taking a course at Southern College of Medicine and Surgery and expects to become a licensed physician. There is a picture of her and the caption says she states that she wouldn't have known Joshua Crawford if she met him on the street. He was the uncle of her mother.

I'll bet if you search the newspaper archives you'll find more on Joshua Crawford and/or Elizabeth Cornett Tyler.

Some time after that, she married a Tyler. I have been unable to find anything on this marriage. Then on Aug.19, 1922 she married Stephen Grow. She left the Klan in 1923 and they all moved to California. She died there on Sept. 10, 1924.

She died Elizabeth Grow in California in 1924. The house in NW Atlanta is on the National Registry of Historic Places, built in 1921, impressive Greek revival house. I'm still looking for her 1st marriage in approx 1896 to a man named Tyler. They had a daughter. He divorced or abandoned her immediately in '96 or '97.

If you can find out what ward that was in 1920 it might help you find this Elizabeth Tyler. Her maiden name was Grew if that will help.

John Wesley Cornett is on Fulton Co., GA in 1900, 1910, and 1930. I didn't find him in 1920. If you get death certificate #08503 from the State of Georgia it should have his parents. He died Feb. 22, 1975 in Douglas Co., Ga. Different dates are given for his birth. I have April 13, 18887 but his brother, Benjamin Rudolph said it was April 10.

His father is Benjamin M. Cornett on p.43 of the 1900 Fulton Co., Ga census. Benjamin's wife was Mary Frances Crawford. I have the Cherokee application which states this. I can provide a copy.

Benjamin's father was B. MArion Cornett and his mother was Elizabeth Helton, daugther of James Calvon and Camilla Southerland Helton.
I am trying to find any info on her, especially her marriage. I believe she may have married at age 14 or 15 to a man named Tyler. She had a daughter and by 16 was divorced, widowed, or abandoned. She is thereafter known as Elizabeth "Bessie" Tyler. She became very prominent in 1920-24 as a promoter and marketer of the KKK. I am writing a book on this story.

Re: Cornett's Harlan Kentucky/ OHIO

I, too, am related to Cornetts from KY. My great-grandmother was Polly Cornett who married James Parks. They lived near Buckhorn Lake. Polly was born Feb. 18, 1882, and died June 14, 1956. Among her children were Charles Parks, who was killed in WWII, and my grandfather, Bennett Parks. She moved to Hamilton Ohio where her husband worked in a factory (Champion Paper, I believe), and then back to KY later. She only agreed to return to the mountains of KY if she could have indoor plumbing, so my great-grandfather built a house near a cliff with a freshwater spring and water from the spring ran by gravity through their house.

Cornett, born abt 1841 in Kentucky, in the 1860 census for Linn Co., MO, son of Nancy Cornett.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Will H.
My mother was born in Harlan. Her mother was Sarah Cornett who married William Bradley Creech. I am trying to find information on the Cornett family. I believe they were from a place called Limefork. I also know my mother had one relative named Matthew Cornett.

Yes this is a Cornett line Roger V Cornett and my 6th great grand father William Jesse Cornett were brothers. I have Owens Cornett, Campbell, Combs, Eversole, Brashear, Jarvis line that I am currently looking at. These are all out of Kentucky. There are many more names in the family but that gives you an idea. New at this is not a bad thing it all comes with time and the passion to dig and not give up.
My email is jjarvis@mcloudteleco.com if you would like to contact me there.
Jim

yes-the Cornetts are all in there too. I have a Braxton Frank Cornett married to a Viola Marie Zeissel. Also, Braxton Frank has a daughter named Jean Carol Cornett (your mom), who married James Charles Sanderson. If you continue back on Braxton Frank Cornett, his father was William Henry Cornett (married to a Tankersly); William Henry Cornett's father was George Braxton Cornett (married to Nannie Winslow); George Braxton Cornetts' father was William Martin Cornett (married to Matilda Malvina Greer), etc. etc. William Martin Cornett was my great, great grandfather. In fact, my grandmother was named after her grandmother Matilda Malvina. Sherri, Please email me at home at sanuhl@att.net
Hope to hear from you soon so we can share more.
