Keith,
I tried to find your tree on Genes but couldn't find a Keith, listed!
It may easier, if I make my tree available to you on Ancestry, if I can have your email? Then you can access the information re John's occupation etc.
We can then see if the John's in question, match.
Jill

Hello Keith,
Thanks for that.

I have found other births, I believe to be, to parents Edward (the Butcher) and Mary Whitepaine. They include a John, born 1687.
If your John was born 1699, do you have him as married to Rachel Newton? Do you know John and Mary's date of death?

Maybe an earlier son, John died.

Do you have a tree online please?

Kind regards
Jill

Hi Jill, Cannot help much regarding the Robinson connection, but Edward Cornford who married Mary Whitepaine at Lewes in 1691 was my 6 x great grandfather.
Mary,s birthdate was 22.8.1655 so your Robinson birth
would be a possibility. Suggest you look in the Lewes registers (On Line) for births of their children. My relation from this marriage is John (born on 27.4.1699).
By the way Whitepaine sometimes spelt as Whitpain.
Regards Keith Cornford
Hello,
I'm hoping to find the parents of HANNAH CORNFORD. Hannah, (may have been known, abbriviated as Ann) was possibly born around 1680/1690 in Sussex, UK, maybe Hurstmonceaux, Iford, Waldron or Warlbeton.
I have a marriage for an Ann 17 Dec 1735 in Lewes, to WILLIAM ROBINSON (b1684).
I'm trying to establish whether, or not I have the correct person. Assuming that she is about the same age as William, she does seem a little older than likely (around 50). Their son William Robinson having been born 18 May 1735 (Lewes).

Does anyone know if Edward Cornford and Mary (Whitpaine) had a daughter at around the right time please? I had thought they were her parents, now I'm not so sure.

Any advice gladly received,
Kind regards
Jill

Thomas Cornford

I have been trying to research Thomas Cornford from Sussex, England, my third great grandfather.

He definatly had a daughter named Hannah Cornford 1848 - 1932, she married James (Also known as Henry ) Hollands. I have found many census records on a Thomas Cornford but I want to know for certain when he was born and who his wife/s were and children were. Some people have him listed with one wife Caroline, others with three different wives. I do not have Thomas Cornfords birthdate, if I go by everyone on ancestry its between 1823-25 but I can not be certain what records or children or wives belong to him, I need a family members help.

Thank you so much

I was doing a websearch for Samuel Vale and found a query by you on ancestry.com. I don't have a membership yet (don't have the extra money right now) so I was only able to see that on March 24 2006 you wrote that you were looking for people matching Samuel Vale born in 1858. I couldn't reply because I'm not a member so I did a websearch for your user name. That's how I found you on this board.

Do you recall doing any research for Samuel Vale? Sorry to bother you if you don't have any info. I'm just doing the best I can to fill in my family tree on my dad's side of the family by trying to gather all the free info I can.

Thanks for replying, Jill
Hi Les. My great great grandfather was James Cornford (1798-1871) who appears to have been a younger brother of your Samuel (b.1792). Their father, also Samuel, married Elizabeth Treadaway on 29 Sep 1791 at Maidstone. There was another brother George and a sister Anna. If you email me I would be pleased to exchange other details.

Hello Diane, think the Samuel you mentioned would be a different Samuel - who married (1) Ann Barden, and (2) Mary Chrismas. BTW, I have another Cornford link, my mother's aunt (from Heathfield) married Robert Cornford in 1927 - they were the founders of Cornford's Dairies in East Sussex, you may be familiar with that chain - am not sure the name was kept when they sold the business quite a few years ago.
The Cornford and Relf names occur quite often around the parish of Heathfield and neighbouring parishes as well, in East Sussex. The name Cornford supposedly originated in East Sussex and most are concentrated there and in West Kent. You might try digging around that area for your Cornford/Relf connection.
Dear Don,

I have been having trouble responding to your request. The net has not been kind to me. Your ancestor John Cornford is according to my family tree program, my 6th cousin. I only have two of your family in my data base as the children of John Cornford and Mary Relf, they are Mary Ann Cornford (born app. 1836) and John Relf Cornford (born app. 1838). There is a large number of Cornford's in Australia (myself included) that are decendents of William Cornford born approx 1535 & his wife Joan? My ancestors Caleb Samuel Cornford & his wife Mary Ann Sheobridge, arrived in Australia in 1853, Also on the same ship was Caleb's brother Charles. I have quite an extensive data base on the Cornford's now. There are approx. 500 Cornford entries in the Australian white pages, the majority of us have some connection.

Regards, Rita Brown

Origin of Cornford Name

Dear Readers,

Cornford’s were Anglo Saxon who came to Britain by raids of the Saxons from Schlesevig about 450-500 A.D.

They were known as Danes, Vikings and Norsemen. The name Cornford is first recorded in County of Norfolk England 1205 and the name carried to Ireland by the Anglo Norman invasion at the close of the 13th century and in the 15th century from the Irish branch to the Isle of Man.

The various versions of the English surname of Cornford are:

deCorneford in 1242 Cornefurth 1469
Corneforth	1514 Cornforth
Cornford	Name comes from Durham, London, York, Sussex, Essex in England also Scotland.

Because of the way it is pronounced it has been recorded as Cornfood, or Cornfoot in some instances.

As my maiden name was Cornford, I am very aware of people mishear the pronunciation.

My ancesters date back to 1530 approx in Sussex, Warbelton and Herstmoncuex areas.

Regards Rita Brown
