Your message is a few years old but hopefully you will still be a member. I have just started researching London Cornhills. I have Frederick born 1869 St Pancras, son of Septimus born 1835 Hoxton who in turn is son of William born circa 1791 Stepney. Any connection?

Just started. I'm back thru James,Henry,John to William born c.1822 who married Emma born c.1828.
If you can help with the spadework I have all the names from Henry (1883-1952) onwards. These are east-end Cornhills, not devon, kent,or essex variety. So far anyway.

Hi Nigel

My G-G-G-Grandfather is George Richard Cornhill and I am descended from his daughter Thirza Freer Cornhill.

I am stuck with regard to George's parents Richard & Elizabeth. They had a daughter baptized in Newfoundland and George was also reportedly born there, but no baptism has come to light. Where were this family after 1818 and what became of Richard & ElizabethGeorge Richard Cornhill was born around 1822 but I can't find him in 1841 and he turns up in Paignton in 1843 (marriage to Thirza).

Any ideas? Also, let me know how you're connected. Best wishes - Michael.

Cornhill Family Tree

Hi Allan, My great-grandparents were two of the orphans who were shipped out of Great Britain during the late 1800's. Up until now we only had the basic information on them. Approximate arrival time in Nova Scotia, etc. We had always believed that their names were John Stanley Lewis born around 1860, and Mary Elizabeth Corkhill, also born around 1860. Now the spelling on Corkhill has also been seen as Cockill. .... I have only been on the Internet for a few months...and it is an amazing place! Just this weekend, someone wrote to tell me that the surname, Corkhill, is a name which comes from the Isle of Man in Great Britain. I checked that out, and there are Message Boards for that name (even under Manx Message Board). So, I thought that was some good information. But, this afternoon someone just sent me the info on how to reach the organization in Canada which is trying to build a data base on ALL the British Orphans who were shipped to Canada - thousands of them. It took me a few minutes to access/search these places, but just an hour ago, I found the two names. However, they were slightly different. He was listed as Stanley Lewis. And, she was listed as Mary CORNHILL. .... Now it says right on the pages that because of handwriting problems, the names/dates/places could have differences. So, I am writing to say two things. Either your last name might have originally been Corkhill (from Isle of Man) (in BEATLES song). Or, my great-grandmother's maiden name was Cornhill - as yours. But, from what you say, you might want to check out the CORKHILL pages on the genealogy sites.

Thanks, Betty (Greater Boston)
