Thanks so much! This is the first lead I've gotten into this family. My husband, Antonio Corpus Contreras's brother was named Roberto and our son is Isaiah (Isaias). Strange connections. Please let me know if you find anything new.

I know that my great grandfather was Isaias Corpus and was born in San Luis Potosi in the late 1800s, but not sure what city.

He settled down with Juana Velazques Velazques in Soledad, San Luis potosi and had the following children:

Longino Corpus Velazquez
Agustina Corpus Velazquez
Anacleto Corpus Velazquez
Gelasio Corpus Velazquez
Roberto Corpus Velazquez
Irene Corpus Velazquez
Aurelia Corpus Velazquez

I don't really know anything else about my great grandfather, that's as far back as we can go. Next time I'm in Mexico I'll try to do some more interviews and digging to see when/where he was born and if he (Isaias Corpus) had any other siblings.

I have Corpus relatives from my mother's side. It's really interesting to read your post, all the Corpus family I know is from San Luis Potosi, specifically from the town Soledad. My great grandfather was Isaias Corpus, but that's as far as we can take our lineage. We know he had cousins, and the children of some of those cousins migrated to Texas and California.

My grandmother's brothers and sisters are:
Irene Corpus
Gelasio Corpus
Agustina Corpus
Roberto Corpus
Longino Corpus
Aurelia Corpus
Anacleto Corpus

Let me know if this rings any bells.

Hi my I am a grandaughter of Saturnino Corpuz and Paulina Corpuz, they bore my father at Tulin,Tayug,Pangasinan,my great grandfather's name is pedro corpuz,my grandfather's siblings were Hermana Corpuz Abuan, and Agapito Corpuz,My Grandparents, uncles and aunties migrated in Davao del norte and my father was left behind to his aunt Hermana Corpuz Abuan,I was wondering if the Corpuz' from San Nicolas Pangasinan knows my ancestors,my father is now 82 years old.He is not a good historian, aside from saying that his ancestors were 10 brothers, torn apart by huge inheritance, some migrated to Visayas and mindanao, some in Quezon, bulacan ,but they originated from La Union,a bit vague history,so far that is all I have at hand, since my grandparents died before I was born.I may post some pictures someday,I have to dig from my papang's album.Thank you, since Corpuz is a unique surname, hope we could reconnect with each other.

Guadalupes's parents were Silverio Herrera Corpus (1892-1963) and Trinidad Serrano Esparza (1891-?). Silverio & Trini's children: Teresa, Trinidad, Julio, Pedro, Pablo, Jesus, Antonia, Guadalupe. I hope we are family!

I just talked to my husband, Antonio. He says your pronombre is Chevy. Is that you?

Peggy Contreras

Hello Juan,
I know this message comes late, but I'd still like to respond. I really don't understand how Corpus surname can be traced back to Austria and Aztecs since they were pagans and did not have last names. I have done some research into my last name, Corpus, and from what I have gathered, the Corpus name is latin and spanish missionaries went to the different countries
"christianizing" the people and "giving" them a last name. Since they were converting many people from Africa, Hawaii, Philippines, Mexico, and Native Americans, it was convenient for them to give the name Corpus which means body or in this case everyone. As for a coat of arms, the only way a surname has a coat of arms is when a man, back in midieval times over in England and Europe, was knighted by the queen or king of that realm because the knight had fought valiantly in battles. Sorry to have made this so long but I thought you'd like to know.

My name is Theresa and my grandfather was Lorenzo Corpus b. 1907 of Austin Texas. I've been tracing my family tree and was able to go as far back as Lorenzo Corpus b. 1835 who was married to Juana Degollado. The had five boys: Matilde, Teodoro, Roumaldo, Juan, and Francisco (Pancho). I would like to see if I can locate Lorenzo's parents. I appreciate any information and will also share my information.

Hi Peggy,

I am writing in response to the information you gave me about the Corpus Family. All the information you sent was really foreign to me until I went back and checked where my grandfather was born. His full name was Jose Candelario Corpus Mendoza (1869-1956), son of Dionisio Corpus and Dolores Mendoza. His spouse was Refugia Rosales. Now here is where there may be a connection, Candelario was christened on 10 Febuary 1869 at Nuestra Senora De la Calendaria Church in Ahualulco, San Luis Potosi.

The information that I have on my grandfather is very sparse. From what I remember he was, remember this is hearsay, the last of a large family (mostly males) but upon his birth his mother died. The father abandoned the family (unknow reason) and the older siblings were off fending for themselves but Candelario was given to and raised by the Lara family (artisans in the area/made pottery). somehow Candelario ended up in Matehuala (I never did find out where Ahualulco is) where he married and raised a family. I remember that he worked for a family of Americans who owened the mines in Real de Catorce (as a chemist/ assayer of precious metals).

In the 1920's, when the mines began to fail, my father who had been living in the U.S. brought the entire Corpus family to the U.S. Candelario and some of his children lived in FT Worth, Texas from 1923-1956 when he passed away. He is burried in Gary, Indiana.

I happen to be the youngest of 9 children who were born in Ft Worth, Detroit and Gary, Indiana where we were all raised. I still have sisters in northwest Indiana and Arizona, a brother in New Jersey, a brother in Texas and I live in Connecticut.

If this sheds any light on you investigations please continue to correspond. At the very least we do seem to have a connection in the distant past. I do have more information from my side of the family but I'll save it for another time if you are interested.

Santos
