The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting United States Mission Iraq.

Pfc. Cesar Cortez, 24, of Oceanside, Calif., died Feb. 11, in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Cortez was assigned to 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, Fort Bliss, Texas.

I just read the message you posted in March 2000. I know it had been a long time but I hope is not too long. My mother's parent were also from Ciales. Her father's name was Emilio Cortes Ayala or maybe Cortes Lozano. There is where my confusion begins. I have search those last name in Ciales and there are not many of them back in 1880's to beginning of 1900's. As far as I know her grandfather's name was Calletano (Cayetano) Cortes, and her father had a brother and a sister. I found a Cayetano Cortes Martinez, who died in 1899?, at age 35 (or so). But according to the record he was single. I am still searching, but I would appreciate any help. You can e-mail me at davanes@optonline.net

In researching my family I have come across a posting (Re: Walsenburg Roybals) and Santiago Trujillo's name was mentioned. If you can, do a query on Walsenburg Roybals, you may find that Santiago may be related to Paula Trujillo. Just a thought!! If you do find that he is related please forward any information my way as I am researching Paula Trujillo who is my fathers grandmother and I will do the same if I located any matches.

My ex-husbands grandmother was Eugene Cortez married name Gene Abaya, her sister was Catalina Cortez and had a brother named Manuel Cortez from Miami,Gila,Arizona. Her father's name was Pete Cortez. Gene and her sister pasted away here in Fresno, CA. I'm not sure you are from the same family.
