Re: Cotons from Lea Marston

I am descended from a Sarah Coton (1806-1853) who married William Coulson (1810-1863). They both lived their whole lives in Lea Marston.

Sarah's father was John Coton (1778-?), and his parents were John Coton (1756-?) and Catherine Hanson, married in 1775. John & Catherine had the following children:

James (b.1776)
John (b.1778, mentioned earlier)
Mary (b. 1780)
William (b.1781)
Thomas (b. 1787)
Sarah (b.1792)

All were from Lea Marston. The line ends there for me at the moment.

Coton family in Leicester - 1800 onwards

Furthur to my earlier message, I have now found links with Marlby Coton , bp Grantham, LIN in 1803. Marlby was married to Ann (possibly BROWN born St. Margarets, Leicester abt 1806). Marlby died in Leicester in 1874 Leicester and Ann in 1892 Leicester. Believe Marlby's parents were Ambrose Coton and Mary. Would be grateful for / pleased to share any information.

Many thanks.

Coton surname in Leicester, England - 1800 onwards

Would be grateful for / pleased to share any information regarding the Coton surname in Leicester, England in the 1800's. I am particularly interested in Ambrose Coton who was born about 1854 Leicester and married Jane Agnes Ward in 1874 in Leicester. The 1881 census shows that they had children Sarah (about 1875) Florence (about 1877) and Jane A. (about 1879) Believe Ambrose died in Leicester in 1900 aged 46 years. 1901 census shows Jane as a widow. There may be possible associations with the West Midlands , especially Birmingham and Staffordshire. Many thanks.
