I am looking for information on an Azenith/Asenth Coville, born abt 1803 somewhere in North Carolina. She was married to my great, great, great grand father John G Salter. Until recently I did not have a maiden name for her until I found a marriage record for one of their daughters in Illinois.

John G Salter was born 6 March 1793 in South Carolina.

The family is found to live in Washington, Daviess County, Indiana as well as Clay County, Illinois.

I do have children found for them.

Re: Simeon Covill

The Simeon Covill married to Abigail Foote is not the same person as the Simeon Covill son of David and Sarah Hurd. This Simeon was born 1791 in New York to David and Rhoda Covill. They moved to Ontario Canada - were there in 1808-1810 for sure. Simeon moved back to New York where he married Abigail Foote. They later moved to Wisconsin - via Ontario or the states - ? Simeon had 4 brothers: James, Henry, Stephen and David Jr. Stephen stayed in Canada, married Mary Jane Knapp and had 7 children. I have no further information on James or Henry. David Jr. moved back to New York and married Eliza Krouskop. They had 5 children. Both David Jr. and Eliza died in New York.
Simeon is too often confused with the loyalist Simeon Covill who also went to Canada. But none of the dates match - nor do the families. One needs to be very careful mixing genealogies when the names are similar.

Kalli-I went to visit my father and step-mother Judy in New Mexico in 1985. I believe Arthrilla was alive then. I also visited them in 1987, and I think she passed away when I was in New Mexico. I never met her or my grandfather Adrian Bernard Coville, who died around 1959 or 1960, not long after we arrived in Germany. We were there for 3 years while my father served in the US Army. My half-sistter Becky (Rebecca) went with Dad and Judy out to California to see Arthrilla. I do not know when that was. My father put Becky in charge of his affairs in 2007, during a hospital stay. I offered him my services to get him set up at his home with all of the necessary medical needs and refurbishing his home with ramps, handrails, etc. Becky convinced him that she would take care of everything. He just wanted to live independently at home after Judy died in 2005(?). Becky put him in a hursing home for "rehabilitation" and convinced him that he neede to stay there. Just before his last hospitalization (when he died), she hadn't gone to see him in over 2 weeks. She took his cell phone (he had no phone in his room) "to get him a better one" leaving him with no way to recieve or make calls. She instructed the nursing home to release NO INFORMATION TO ANYONE EXCEPT HER. I was furious and immediatly started making arraingments for a trip to Florida. Since we care for my mother-in-law, we had a 2 week delay while waiting for one of Toni's brothers to take my mother-in-law for us. We got to Florida and had a good 3 day visit with Dad...he was near death, it was obvious, but he was happy to see us. Becky avoided us completely. On our way back to Pennsylvania, we got the call that Dad died. We continued back to Pennsylvania, made arraingements for my mother-in-law to come home for a week to take care of doctor appointments, then to return her to her son's house so we could go back to Florida. It was Becky's daughter Jessica, whowas in Tampa on leave from the army, who called my daughter Susan and informed her of Dad's death. He wanted to be creamateds, so she said Becky would be handling the services and we would be informed. Becky continued to avoid all contact wih us until we saw her at Dad's memorial service. I havent heard from her since. She does not return calls or e-mails. She is the executor of his estate and gets everything. She is a piece of work! Back to your grandmother Gwen...is she still in San Diego? I feel the obligation to let her know about her brother, my father. If you have any contact info, please forward it to me. My e-mail address is PAPPY11x4@yahoo.com. I completely understand not having accessability to family documents and "artifacts", as Becky has complete control of everything of Dad's. She even changed the locks on his home while he was in the hospital so we (Susan and I) had no access, we had keys that Dad had given us. It is a shame, but conrol is everything to some folks. The Military Honor Guard at Dad's memorial service gave me the flag from the ceremony, which is protocol, since I am his oldest living child. I would love to have his army medals and decorations, but here is slim chance that they will end up anywhere except the trash. Again, I understand your situation. I would appreciate you forwarding my contact info to your mother Jayne...I will enjoy meeting her, as well as you. My phone number is (570) 460-2273. My address is: 2374 SR 29 South, Tunkhannock, PA 18657-6325. I hope we have expanded your family tree, the Coville (Covel)side goes back to the revolutionary war era. Susan is more than willing to forward documentation to you that she has collected.

Thanks for letting me know about Bernard. I didn't know he had passed away (shoot- I even sent a Christmas card to him this year!)

I believe that Arthrilla was still living in Anacortes when I was a baby, but I have no memory of her.

I haven't spoke with my Great Aunt Gwen since right after Jane died. It's nice to know she is still alive. My grandmother told her some not very nice things about me before she passed and Gwen always believed her (even though my grandmother was mentally diminished due to the cancer).

I of course am very familiar with the passing of both my grandparents Jane and Frank. Unfortunately, an aquaintance of theirs made themselves indispensible to them in their final years and convinced my grandparents to give them all of their possessions. My mother, her brother and I received nothing- not even family photos. These other people sold everything or threw it away. I am greatly saddened to think near strangers wiped out any chance of documented family history for me and my children.

My mother Jayne and my step father Larry Roper have lived in Georgia for the last 9 years or so, and her brother Mike(adopted) lives in Alaska with his new bride Pam.

I appreciate your information regarding my very small family tree. If ther is anything else you would like to know, please feel free to ask.

Message amendment: Kalli Ann- Please forgive me for this omission. Bernard Patrick Coville divorced Geraldine (date unknown) and remarried (a second time) to Judith May Dunford (also date unknown), daughter of Frank Bernard Dunford of Richmond, VA. They had only one child, Rebecca May Coville, on 14 Febuary 1961, in Frankfort, Germany. Rebecca had a daughter, Jessica Lynn McFarland on 10 July 1982. Rebecca later married Randy Hoffmann, of Tampa, FL (where they still reside) who adopted Jessica and changed her last name to Hoffmann. Jessica married Justin Schulz, and had one child, Nicholas Robert Schulz, born 18 May 2005. Jessica is currently serving in the US Army and divorced Justin. Rebecca and Randy had 2 daughters Amy Elizabeth born 3 May 1990 and Molly Leann born 8 November 2005. I appologize for this omission. If I or Susan remember any other details, I will post them. Please forward your e-mail address for ease of communication. Thanks and have a safe and happy New Year.

I am John Coville, son of Bernard Coville, brother of Jane and Gwen, who are children of Adrian Coville. Kalli Willson, I believe your grandmother is my father's sister, along with Gwen. One of my father's sisters (I don't know which) died, and I don't know how to get in touch with my father's other sister. My only child, Susan Gracia (Coville) Whitney lives in Auburndale, Florida (e-mail:RSGZAWHIT@aol.com) has been trying to assemble a family tree. She offers the following information: David Covel(born 15 November 1745 in Litchfield CT)(died 13 July 1821 in Norwich, New York) and Sarah Marsh were married 25 October, 1781 and had a child Salmon. There is also mention of a David Covel (born 1785) in the houseshold of David and Sarah, unknown relationship. Susan has a document, House of Representatives Claim for Compensation for services in the Navy of the Revolution for David Covel. Sarah Marsh's father was Moses Marsh (1731-1790) and her mother was Sarah Merrill who was christened on 31 August 1735 in West Hartford Litchfield, CT. Sarah Merrill's parents were Ebenezer Merrill and Mary Burnham Merrill. Seth Covell (born 1827 in Saratoga Springs, New York to Seth and Beulah Deuel) married Margaret in 1848. Seth (born 1863), Rose (born 1869) and died before the 1880 census, Lilly (born 1874), John (born 1877), George (born 1878) and William Patrick (born 1867) were siblings born to Seth and Rose Coville. William Patrick Coville (born 1867) lived in Clinton, New York in 1920 (according to census), was married to Phoebe T. (born 1876)--they had 4 children, Adrian Bernard (born 1901) who was married twice...first to Arthrilla Marie Brown (Le Brun) then to Ester A. Lanphere in 1948. Wm. and Pheobe also had Edward (born 1903) who married Irene and had Gwen and Eva and possibly William Edward. Ellen (born 1905) daughter of William Patrick and Phoebe T.. Then, in 1907 William Patrick and Phoebe T. had Nelson, who married Helen. There is quesion of Phoebe T.'s origin, she is rumored to be Canadian aboriginal (Mohawk, possibly). Bernard Patrick Coville (born 26 April 1924, died 14 September 2008) enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and retired from the army in 1965 and moved to Sarasota, FL. He was married first to Betty Bond(?), then to Geraldine L. Hooper(born 18 Septrmber 1934 and died 13 Feb 1996 who gave birth to Molly Ann (14 January 1953, died 1959) and John Patrick (born 29 December 1953). John Patrick married Mary Gracia Smith in Sarasota, Fl March 1972 and gave birth to Susan Gracia, his only child, on 24 October 1972. John remarried twice, first to Linda Getz, then to Toni Anne DiMino on 17 May 1986. Please feel free to contct Susan at the above-mentioned e-mail address or John at PAPPY11x4@yahoo.com. Any information you have will be greatly appreciated, especially the name and contact information on your remaining great aunt Gwen or Jane.
Hi Kalli Ann,

That's about all I know as far as the ancestry goes. I was hoping, I could find out more. Bernard [Arthrilla's son] had one daughter, a stewardess out of FL I believe. Don't know her name right off hand although it could be in the other post. Bernard just died within the last six months or so. Adrian Coville [Arthrilla's ex-husband] remarried and lived in FL. He died sometime in the late 50's or early 60's.

I don't remember whether Arthrilla was still living in Anacortes when you were born or not. But she later moved to San Diego and died there sometime in the late 60's I believe.

Jane died within the past 10 years as I would think you know. Frank, her husband, survived her and lived a couple of more years.

Your great aunt, Gwendolyn, is still living I believe and would be in San Diego, CA unless she has moved within the past 5 years or so.

That's about all I know. If you have any information, I would appreciate it.

Hi-
I recently went to Massachusetts to spend a night at Lizzie Borden's home in Fall River. I had reserved Lizzie's room. In a glass front cupboard (locked) was a set of silver spoons (set of 6 that looked more like forks). The display label in front said: "Set of silver spoons given to the Covell family in Newport Rhode Island, when Lizzie vacationed there after her trial in June 1893"
My question- does anyone know which Covell's in particular? OK, one more question- does anyone know if Lizzie was related to these Covell's? Thank you...
Teri Dimmett- Admin- Covel, Covill & Coville

PS- I do have a photo of spoons if anyone is interested.

My Great-Grand Mother,Frances Jane Coville, who was born in 1870 in Ohio, and to my understanding had a twin brother Frank. They also had two sisters,Harriet and Edith Mae. For some reason Edith Mae had a different last name according to my Great Aunt, but she wasn't sure what it was. No one seems to know much about this part of the family tree. My Great-Grandmother, Frances, married George Washington Yeager. George was 30 and Frances was 15 at the time and they were married in Sterling, Rice County, Kansas.
Do the names Frances, Frank, Harriet or Edith Mae go with any names you have?
I am searching any information on Lula Coville, she was born Lula Salsbury in 1882, she lived most of her life in PalermoNY in Oswego County, She was the daughter of Lenord and Cora Salsbury,She was still living in Palermo in 1945 when her Mom passed away in her home. She married Frank Coville I believe from the same area. He may have been from the Phoenix Schropell area which isa not far from Palermo. If any one has any info on either of theses people please reply to this message or e-mail me at Edga49@aol.com Thanks Elaine

Gina I don't think that we are from the same family, but it could be I don't know anything about Frank Coville other than this person married my great aunt Lula Salsbury. He was from Oswego County and lived around Penneville I believe. If you do know of any conection let me know. I think that they must of seperated or something because there was no mention of him when my great grandmother passed away only that Lula had his last name. Elaine
