Hi Rexan

My name is Carrie Duron and I think we are related. I hope you don't mind my getting your email address off of Ancestry.com.I recently found out about my Cowan side of the family as my mother was taken by the state when she was about 5. I am the granddaughter of Rosabel or Rosie Cowan. I believe you said your father was Frank. He was Rosie's older brother. Rosie's daughter was my mother. Her name was Seurina. Her knickname was apparently "Renee" pronounced Ree-knee. So I am not sure if we are cousins but we are related. I just started on this journey to find my mother's side of the family.

Thanks for listening!
Sincerely
Carrie Duron

Can you email that to me?
It is not strange that William is not listed since David outlived him. William died in 1852 and David was his executor along with a law firm which I dont have at hand, alos Samuel left shortly after the civil war. David's death may have made the deciding factor in Samuel's travels to Missouri.
I also am looking for any pictures of family from any of that ohio time period.
you can email me at exblue@netwurx.net
I have the probate records for William where David is mentioned and would be happy to scan and sent them to you.

Dave

I have a copy of certified copy of death record on David along with his estate records. DOD 14 Sept 1868. Son, Hugh is often mentioned in the records along with David, John and Joseph. At the very end Jane is mentioned as executor (rather than "the widow"). I have no proof of his father, David. Will have to find my copy of Cowans of County Down to see if there are sources for the next step back.

kay

I have David's father also David b 31 Aug 1742 Chester Co, PA and d 1786 Cumberland Co PA I haven't worked on this line in years and it appears that I was sloppy with sources. This may have come from COWANS OF COUNTY DOWN which isn't always accurate. I have PA Archives copies of a David Cowan Chester Co 8th Battalion, 8th company and also a David Cowan Chester Co 8th Battalion 1st Company. No other information on them except that "the basic record does not prove active duty". I don't know if PA has further military records from the Rev War. You might try DAR records to see if he is already proven. If so, there would be a lot of information on him.

Does anyone know Richard Cowan (possible middle initial W) that may have lived in or around Collingswood, NJ in about 1962-64? He was born about 1937-38. Other details I have are that he was in the Air Force prior and worked for an airline, maybe Northeast airlines. May have had a brother, mother who worked as a switchboard operator and father who worked in a shipyard. Any of this sound familiar to anyone? These are details of a very close relative my family passed on to me. Thanks for any direction!

Hello Stu, Suggest checking out Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865, in Ancestry. Among the draftees from Palmer, Massachusetts is Alexander B. Cowan, aged 32, dentist, married, born in Mass. Beta City Directories also list a Dr. Alexander B Cowan (dentist) in a number of volumes between 1885 and 1896. The "James N.C." notation on the photo might also be read as James W.C. or James W. Cowan, if the "N" is a poorly written "W". Good luck! Bob Cowan

We've been searching for more information on Robert Cowan, middle name probably "Hiram".
We did find his baptism in Falkirk 1782. Mother's name, Margaret Ferguson. I believe father's name was William. I don't have the record in front of me at the moment.

Robert finally shows up in US records in South Carolina in the 1830s.

Any assistance would be wonderful!

Angela

Hi,

It was a bit of a surprise to me to find your post about grandad. I don't really recall what prompted me to "Google" his name. Guess it was his birthday. I do have his 1917-1918 diary, but I'd love to see what he wrote in his earlier version. Most of his WWI, WWII memorabillia went to the University of Dallas after passing through a "Museum of Flight" that was located at Dallas Love Field. Roy came to Dallas in the first place since Love Field is where they trained the WWI piolts. The dashing young flyer swept the local gentry's daughter off her feet, and remained in Dallas till he passed away in 1989 at the age of 91.

Thanks for your efforts. It is truely intresting finding out how small a world it can be. I know my mom, Roy's daughter, began a correspondence with a distant relation she discovered in Australia who said that they had an old photo of "some yank" relation. They sent her a copy, and it turned out to be her dad taken during his service in WWII, when he went back in the Air Force. Small world.

You can reach me directly at my email address bob@stanard.name.

Bob

They were born in Iowa and possibly lived in Mahaska County. Other places I was told of were Ransom, Kansas and Missouri. We are looking around possibly 1840 onward. We know we are related to the Scott family.
