I only know that my greatgrand father was born in Arkansas and moved to Oklahoma. Not much is known about James Thomas Cowens and Mary Jane McDonald Cowens. I do know however that some of the family moved to Sacramento California.

He has not been back to Az. since his father died many years ago. I have never met any of his siblings being that there was some type of conflict in the family. My father was born in Mesa Az. He left there and went to Vietnam and ended up residing in Rochester NY. His family are still in Arizona and in Oklahoma. His father's name was Buster Cowens, mom's name was Leona Mae West Cowens. From what I am reading on the message boards from various other family member's (Ida Cowens-my aunt) my great grand-parent's name were Mary Jane Mcdonald Cowens and James Thomas Cowens

Looking for inforamtion about Edward Howard Cowens, living in 1910 in Manhattan with wife Maud and brother-in-law Benjamin Smith. Edward was a printer and born in Canada..he was 29 in 1910. May have passed away during the war, or returned to Canada afterwards..

My Mother was Hannah Maria Cowens,Daughter of John Thomas Cowens,Who I believe was born in West Aukland Durham. I understand from a census he was a stepson in the Raper tree.
From the 1911 Census J.T.C.married Esther , whom I think was Liddell. The census gives the marriage as under 1 year , J.t.c.as being 37 years 7 Esther as 27yrs. Children :-Hannah Maria Cowens ,my Mother,age 12 : George Robert C as 9 yrs ;Percival C aged 4 and Charles as being 2.
There were other children , Margaret , Joe , Leslie(Les) Evelyn and Elizabeth. These other children must have been with Esther. I knew them all personally having met them when I lived at Rowlands Gill , Durham

I found a marriage of Edith Raper to a Joseph Glasper 1945 and births of Joan Glasper(1946),Anthony Glasper(1950),Albert Glasper(1952) and Albert Bradley(1952).

Gladys had brothers Edward, Sid, Bill and sisters Edith and Ethel who died as a baby. Gladys and husband Thomas Killeen had two daughters Maureen and Moira.
Edith was at first married to a man called Clasper and they had children Joan & John who lives in Australia and then she married someone named Bradley and they have a son called Albert who has done a lot of work on the Raper family tree. Sorry but I do not know where he lives or anything about him.

Yes I live in England and occasionally keep in touch with Gladys Killeen nee Raper. The daughter of Mabel Liddell and Frederick Raper.She must be about 90 yrs.old with a good memory but could not tell me anything about Margaret Cowens.

John Thomas Cowens was married to Hannah Maria Dixon in 1897.
She died and in 1911 he married Esthet Liddell. Her parents were William Liddell and Margaret Ann Snarey who were married in 1882. I have a photo of William and Margaret and six sons.Williams father was Thomas Liddell and Margarets father was John Snarey.
John Thomas Cowens was known as Tommy. He and Hannah had children. They had Annie Mary, Thomas William, Hannah,Charles and Percy that I know of up to now. With Esther he had John,Jo,Lizzie,Meggie,Evelyn (my mother),Lesley and I am now awaiting the 1911 census on line to see if there were any others.

I would like to fill in some info on John Cowens. Do you know if John and Hannah had children, I have found a John Thos. Cowins and Annie M. in the 1901 census with 2 children, Annie Mary and Thos. Wm. Just wondering if this is them. Also are William and Margaret the parents of Esther and Mabel Liddell?

John Thomas Cowens was married twice. First to Hannah Maria Dixon who died, then to my grandmother Esther Liddell in 1911.Margaret (Cowens) Raper died in 1918 aged 65.They lived in Hedleyhope and then Highfield, Rowlands Gillwhere she died.Esther Liddell had a sister called Mabel who married a Frederick William Raper.I think 2 step-brothers married 2 sisters.The only Margaret Cowens I can find who was born in Newcastle (as she always says in the census) has a father called John Cowens.I also have a certificate for a Margaret Cowens born 1853 in Durham with a mother Margaret,no father.

I have a copy of John Thomas Cowens birth certificate for Dec. 24 1873 West Auckland and a marriage certificate for Robert and Margaret which says her father is William Cowens a blacksmith. I would appreciate any information you could share with me on John Thomas and family and will do the same with Charles Herbert Raper if you wish.

Margaret Cowens was my gret grandmother.She married Robert Raper in 1876. She had an illigitimate son John Thomas Cowens in 1874. He was my grandfather.

Albert Scott and Nora Cowens are in jail at South McAlester charged with the murder of Cash Ellis, found dead in bed a few days ago. The woman admits being with Ellis when the crime was committed, but lays the shooting on Scott. All are negroes.

Susan Cowen/s who married Robert F. Ramsey b. 23 Mar 1832, in Huntingdon Co., PA

I am searching for info about Susan Cowen/Cowens who is said to have been the first wife of Robert F. Ramsey (son of Thomas Ramsey & Mary Polly Lane) who was born 23 Mar 1832 in Springfield Twp., Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. I don't know when Susan was born nor the names of her parents, but, Susan Cowen is said to have died in 1855. Robert married secondly, Isabella Sollers in 1856. Isabella was the daughter of William Moore Sollers and Eleanor (last name unknown).

Greetings! My name is Nancy Lynn Cowens, & when I recently typed my name into the Google search engine, I was surprised at how many 'hits' I got. I was born March 24, 1960, in Chicago, IL; lived there til age 4, raised in Burlington, IA, til age 12, moved to Los Angeles, CA til age 14, & have been in Flint, MI ever since. I have been looking for ANY Cowens, or ANYONE I may be related to. I've heard from a few Cowens' & others, but we haven't quite put it all together yet. The ones I've heard from so far are White; I am primarily African-American, but also part Apache, & had a German grandmother.
