I am looking for my grandfather, born 1874 in Hetton-le-Hole. He was a miner and ran his own bicycle business in Gilesgate, Durham.

I believe he had a sister Mally and a brother David who ran the Seven Stars Inn in Swalwell (now demolished).

My husbands parents were born in Liverpool. Rodger Craggs was born in 1912 in West Derby. I am not sure if Rodger is related to George. Hope you can help.

After years of research, it appears that there were at least two Thomas James Craggs--both from Darlington! I should update or remove my original message. I have a bit more information now, but not much. There is a local website run by the Lawn Family which has some info about Craggs. However, it hasn't been updated for awhile. I have Chester Aurthur Craggs b Sept 20, 1883 m.Stella Moseley. At least two children - Helen and William Craggs. Chester was a Fireman on the Illinois Central RR and lived in Brookport, Massac Co, Illinois at the time of his WW I draft registration. Please reply if interested in more info.

Hi, Sharon, Just saw in my file, a memorial card with details of the funeral of ANNIE CRAGGS (1869 - 1953). Annie was the step mother of my Grandfather, (yr G'G'Father), JOSEPH. She was interned at Evergreen Memorial Park. I think this was in Seattle. I haven't had too much success in determining this, as she did live in Canada, at one time. Maybe u have some info on this?

Well HELLO, Sharon - 2nd cuz! How awesome to finally get a REAL connection. I have just spoken to my Mum, Marion, in Adelaide, and told her the news. I first said Verna but when I said Margie, it was the right name. Eureka!
I last saw Uncle Alfred in Melbourne and was shocked to see how much weight he had lost since the time b4, and this was bcoz he was ill, and then he passed away not long after. He was like all Mum's brothers - a real gentleman.
Sadly, only Uncle George is alive and we r grateful bcoz when his wife, Edith died 2 yrs ago (they were first cuzs, we feared he would go soon.
Your Uncle & Aunt, Maxi & Aileen, live in Melb. We used to be in contact when I lived in Melb all those years ago, but no longer.

My great grandad was Thomas Craggs born in Darlington 1875. His father, also called Thomas, had a brother Robert, whose son, another Thomas born 1892,emigrated to Canada, but as far as I know he didn't have a brother Harry, so your Thomas may be a son of one of the other brothers.

My father was born in middlesbrough and named after his father john but as my grandfather died before i was born i dont have a birth to go back from. you might have the wrong area I think it is Craggs from Hylton Sunderland which was County Durham but is now Tyne & wear englandI did my research in the library at sunderland wher my family of craggs came from who where butchers by trade

The only "Cragg" I have at the moment is a James Craggs who was born Hartlepool c 1852 and was a locomotive driver on the railways in the 1901 census.He married a Marhgaret LEE born 1852 Elwick.

Would like to hear any info on CRAGGS' (engine drivers/stokers) from Darlington, Yorkshire. My Grandfather was Joseph (b. 1882, Darlington), his father was Alfred William (b. 1864, Norton, married Hannah Lycett then Annie ?) and his father was Harold (b. 1837, Malton, married Lavinia Rodgers in 1859 inParish of Norton).
My grandfather went to Sri Lanka and his last two surviving children, George & Marion (my Mum) now live in Adelaide, Australia.
Thought there couldn't be too many Craggs' involved with Yorkshire railways. How wrong I was!!

My g-g-grandfather, Henry Proud, was a boarder in the home of Robert Craggs in the 1881 Census. Robert was a Master Tailor and Henry was a Journeyman Tailor. The dwelling was 27 1/2 Chester Terr, Bishopwearmouth, Durham, England. Robert is listed as 38 years of age, Henry as 25. Other members of the family at this address were wife Martha (39), sons Stephen (14), Mark O. (12), John W. (7), and Robert (5), as well as father-in-law Mark Owen (65), and mother-in-law Mary Owen (66). I have also come across the name Hannah Proud Craggs, so I feel that Henry is probably related to Robert. Please contact me if you have any information on this branch of the Craggs family. Thanks.

Ann I am a genealogist who has a high intereat in the name Curgenven. My ggrandmother was a Curgenven. CAn you tell me a little about your relationship to the Curgenven family. It is a rather unique name. IF we have corresponded before let me know as I have many contatcs in this area.

Thank you Janis for your help. I went to 1837 on line to look for Margaret Craggs marriage.

The time frame for the marriage was 1852-1859 so I looked at all the pages. There are lots of quarters that remain unreadable. I have to assume that hers is one of those.

Poor Margaret will have to remain an orphan for a bit longer.

Margaret Craggs was christened in Bamburgh 21 March 1824 d/o George and Ann Craggs. There is a daughter Ann but her christening was 15 Dec 1816

I could not find a suitable marriage for George to an Ann but my parish record fiche only starts in 1813 and I see a christening of a Mary to this couple in 1815 so they may have been married earlier than 1812

I am looking for information on Margaret Craggs B 1825-29 in North Sunderland. I have no other information on her before she married except on the 1851 census where I may have found her visiting Ann Craggs B 1823-24. Ann was working as a domestic servant for Thomas Dixon in Stanton Northumberland.

Margaret Married Frederick Parkinson in the mid 1850s and they had 4 children.

Frederick 1857 Jane Elizabeth 1859 Caroline 1861 and Mary Ann 1864.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I beleive my Gr Grandfather was Thomas Craggs, married to Elizabeth Craggs and they had 7 children. Thomas was involved with locomotives in Darlington. Looking for more info on parents of Jane CRAGGS DALE. Her death record shows they were Robert CRAGGS and Elizabeth BLACK. Jane was born 22 May 1847 in England. She came to America in 1886. Her husband, William DALE, came in 1885. They brought over a total of 8 children.

Am looking for Fanny's husband , Mr. Craggs. Fanny was born in Nottinghamshire, England. She lived around the Yorkshire area, they had 5 children: Joseph 1870, Annie 1873, Ellen 1874, William 1875, James 1876. One of the boys died as a result of being burnt from the open hearth fire.
Fanny died when Ellen was 12-13 yrs old. Annie is reportedly married to a Doctor and went to the USA. before her mother died - I think.Ellen came to Australia when she was about 24-25yrs old, with a friend.
Ellen was working for the Crabbtree family in Bingley in 1891.
The family was in Over Wyresdale in 1881 but mr.Craggs isn't listed in this census.
am looking for any Info on the family.

I have traced a William Craggs DOB abt 1875. He is the son of Fanny Graggs Father no known yet. Had two sisters, two brothers. the sister Annie I believe went to the USA with one of the brothers but not sure which one. Annie's hisband was apparently a doctor. The other Sister is my Grandmother. She came to Australia.
