Hi Lesley. Julius & Fanny are my Great, Great Grandparents on my Grandmother's (Lillian Emily Staunton, nee Kuchler) side. Sorry I can't help with any info with Fanny as i am looking too. Their son, William is my Great Grandfather. I have Julius's death certificate. Lavinia was 17 when he died on the 8th Sept 1888 in St George Hospital from "accidental burns", he lived for 9 hrs. after the accident. He was 63 years 4 mths old. He came from Mannheim, Germany and had been 27 years in Qld. Julius was a Saddler. His Parents were Phillip Kuchler (Police Sargeant) and Susan Deffarringa. I don't know if this helps at all. I do remember my Grandparents mentioning Lavinia in conversation.
Kind regards,
Roz Noonan (Townsville)

Thanks Marjorie.

I was confused as on the 1841 cencus there is no James . But now realize he would have been 17yrs and left.
Do you have any info or paper-work, any-thing on William Crapper, James brother born in 1817 to Henry and Francis.

My great-grandfather was Henry. He married Annie Kyte. On the cencus, they moved to Essex from Oxford, it states Henry was born in Ireland. When Henry and Annie had a daughter they named her Cecilia Mary Nocton.
In Ireland 1849 a William Crapper married a Mary Nocton. (note the name) The marriage cert. states, William Charles Crapper, serving soldier 3rd Regiment. based in Limerick. They married in Killaloe where Mary was residing.
Just thought ypu may have some knowledge of this. Regards, Carol

So I pretty certain this would have been our Henrys father.
My Gran (Amy nee Wragg was born in 1932 who died this year) and her sister married two brothers by the name of Crapper. My grandad was called William and he was the son of Arthur and Fanny Crapper from Walkley in Sheffield. William died in the war on 1 October 1945 in Japan and is buried in Hong Kong.

I saw your family were from Darnall but that's the other side of the city so I don't know if our ancestors were likely to be related.

Let me know what you think.

Sadie

Hi there Arnold,

I am from a long branch of Sheffield Crappers. My Gran (Amy Crapper born 1932) married William (born around 1930) who was a merchant seaman before the second world war and then in the navy for the War and was killed in Japan in 1945. William was from a large family and his brother, Derek?, married my Gran's sister Olive. I think that branch of Crappers were raised around Crookes although I could be wrong as that's where my gran's family grew up so I've assumed her husband did too.

Anyway, let me know if that's helpful.

Hello Carol,

I am a mature postgraduate at Southampton University researching for a PhD on Parkhurst Prison 1838-1864 and the 4,088 juvenile offenders who passed through it......Thomas and Richard Parker CRAPPER from Oxfordshire were two of them. The latter died in the prison on 12/07/1846 and Thomas was transported to Port Phillip aboard the "Maitland" on 22/05/1846.

Are you able to help me with any biographical details for them, especially Thomas and his life "down under"? Hopefully I may be able to provide you with some details in return. He went to parkhurst prison. Transferred to Australia in 1846 on the convict ship.
Carol

Hello Nicola - My Dad and our family came to Canada in 1957. His name then was Charles Crapper (he changed it to Charles Cradder).Charles is now 83 years old. His father was Henry Crapper - originally from Darnall - Henry Crapper's father and mother ran "The Ball" in Darnall, Sheffield (I think it is still there.) I'm not sure about my Grandfather's siblings but I think he had a brother called Fred. My father had a sister called Vera - Vera married a Canadian soldier. Is Arnold still around? I hope you receive this message.

I have been researching the names on a memorial in Sheffield Cathedral which remembers the policemen and firemen who fell in the Great War 1914-18

The result of this research is on my website http://www.stannington.webitsmart.co.uk/ in the 'Sheffield' section. There are details relating to Charles Hoyland Crapper. He was a policeman. He married L. Crapper from London. Did they have children? I'd like to know details about his family and his career if possible.
Can anybody tell me more

Kind regards

Robert.
Hi Denise,
Thank-you for that information.
You, my-self and Steve Gardner all have the same connection with henry and his 1st wife Francis.

My connection is

Carol
Kenneth (capper. name change 1949) my dad
Henry and Annie (Kyte) Crapper my great-grand-parents

William Charles crapper (son of Henry and Francis budd Henry and Francis Budd
Charles and Elizabeth
John and Martha
Noah and Catherine

We seem to be one generation apart from having Henry and Francis as the same greats. I am 58yrs.

I did not visit the latter day saints as Tony had an appointment unexpectedly. I phoned them. The lady that works there has the Irish knowledge. How-ever they said to go to Kew and the army records will be there.

Do you know what happened to Mary-ann, Henry and Francis daughter. (she had the son Richard Parker Crapper). Did he get sent on the convict ship with Thomas. They did a robbery in Oxford together. 14yrs and 12yrs.Thomas was Henrys son by Martha. Richard was Henrys grand-son. ( you would know all this as I am only a beginner)I can find Thomas listed as a passenger on the "maitland" but no Richard.?

Also on the 1861 there is a Mary head of house and Henry and Masha /Martha. I think this is my Henrys sister. All born in Ireland. William is not listed. If Masha/martha did
marry then the descendents might have some History on Henry. She is listed as a widow. The ages of the children are correct.
How did you go back to Noah and Catherine.? That is wonderful.

Thank-you for your time.
Regards, Carol

Hi Carol, Sorry I didnt reply sooner - only just received your message of 9/11 and 21/11. Percival was brought up by his grandparents (my gg grandparents) John william Crapper and Charlotte Boulter.

The connection is:

Denise
Mother (Dorothy)
Grandfather Percival John william Crapper
Great Grandmother Mary Crapper
G G Grandparents John william & Charlotte Elizabeth Crapper
GGG Grandparents Charles & Lavinia Crapper
GGGG Grandparents Henry & Frances Crapper
GGGGG Grandparents Charles & Elizabeth Crapper
GGGGGG Grandparents John & Martha Crapper
GGGGGGG Grandparents Noah & Catherine Crapper
This traces the family back to 1680.

If you Google Oxford Crapper Website it will take you to a website run by Geoff Crapper who might be able to help in your search. How did you get on at the family centre?

Regards Denise

Hi Denise,
I am going to the latter day saints place next week to see if i can find any info on William 1817 serving soldier 3rd regiment Ireland. I an sure this is my great-grand-fathers father.

My 2nd cousin, Michael, remembers a story that our Henry "was born in barracks"

Also michael says that his grand-father (which was my grand-fathers brother) had a great-uncle (one of the clothes cleaners) He had the shop and kept a parrot. When some-one came in , it would shout "shop" . The parrot was fed brazil nuts. One day, some-one put their hand near the cage and the parrot bit his finger.

Please would you tell me who your grand-father was, your great-grand-father and g/g/grand/father. ggg/grand-father
You did say 3 times grand-father Charles son of Henry and Francis. in one of your e-mails to me. I have put it down like this- not sure if it is correct.

Denise
Father ?
Grand-father ?
great-grand-father ?
Charles crapper g/g/grand-father
Henry and Francis g/g/g/grand-parents.

I am listing all that I have now.

Hope you do not mind me e-mailing you again.
Thanks
Carol

Hi Denise,
Thanks for that. I am in touch with Katherine knight who is connected to crappers in oxford. It was her tree that had the two williams married to Caroline earl. She thinks this could have misreputation by an elderly lady sinced passed.
Catherine was inclined to say what you have just said.
She was going to clarify this with some-one.

Have you any details at all of Henry and francis's son, William, born 1817 , in oxford.as a soldier in Ireland. He married mary nocton in Ireland 1849. On the marriage was father , Henry, clothes cleaner. I connected this to Oxford.
My Henry ( my great-grand-father) born in 1851, Ireland, married Annie Kyte in Oxford 1876. They named their daughter, Cecilia Mary Nocton Crapper. (note two middle names of the mary nocton who married a William in Ireland. (serving soldier, Limerick on marriage cert.)
This gave me almost certainly the connection that our henrys father was William , soldier in Ireland.
But I have no birth cert. of our Henry, just his death.
Have been trying to find some-one, like your-self, that could have pinpointed Henry marrying annie and Henrys father William born 1817. (I have Annie and Henrys marriage cert)

Who was your grand-father and great-grand-father.?
Carol

I have just read your email. I think you could be right. If you check on familysearch.org you will see that there are in fact two William Crappers listed. William Henry Crapper (your relative) is the son of Henry & Fanny. William Crapper who married Caroline Earl is the son of Charles & Ann Crapper (Henry snr's brother) That William Crapper was christened in 1815 - a couple of years before our William Henry and that William Crapper continued to live in Oxford. Hope this helps.

Incidentally, my grandfather who was brought up by his grandfather, always said there was an irish connection in the family!

Denise

Hi Christine,
Thanks for your e-mail.
It does not yet become a certainty that I am linked to Henry and Francis Budd. After I told a Catherine knight and Paula (they are connected to henry and Francis/martha--They said my findings were correct. (I have to be 100 per cent sure).
Let me explain.
My aunt remembers our Henry born 1851 (my g/grand-father). She said he spoke with an irish accent.
I have his marriage cert. to Annie Rose Kyte. Married in Oxford 1876.

This got me thinking why did he come from Ireland when married in Oxford.?

I went to the 1881 cencus. There was a Henry and Rosa (annie) on there. (oxford) The childrens names my aunt knew. Not being satisfied I went to th 1891 cencus. They were then living in Essex where my aunt knew of them and living there herself when born in 1922. (he died 1931 and my aunt was at his funeral)
He had more children and again my aunt knew the names.
Next was the 1901 cencus. They appear again and this time with my grand-father on it.
I have all the birth certs. of their children now.
In each cencus they collaborate the Irish accent (born in Kings county, Ireland)

The next piece of info. seems to confirm that I was linked to Henry and Francis Budd.
My 2nd cousin found a marriage, in Ireland, of a William Henry to Mary Nocton in 1849. pronunced Naughton
Now when our henry (junior) had his 1st daughter (in Oxford 1879) they called her Cecilia Mary Nocton Crapper.
Note her two middle names were that of the
Mary Noctonon the Irish marriage.
On the marriage cert. that I obtained from Ireland ,(This is pending at the moment and not officially in my tree)
Williams father is Henry , Cloth cleaner.

I went to www.familysearch.org and found a willam born to Henry and Francis. in 1817
Next I went to the 1841 cencus. Henry had maarried Martha lovegrove in 1826 as Francis had died. (info was passed to me(
Now Henry was listed as a cloth cleaner.

Some-one in Ireland looked up births and there was a Henry born 1851/ to William henry crapper and Mary Nocton. Also a girl 1852 to William and Mary. On these births it states William was a soldier. On the marriage cert. it states William was a serving soldier based in Limerick.

This all seemed to confirm why Henry junior was married to our annie in Oxford.
I e-mailed Catherine and she said "I applaud your exactness".
But then she has e-mailed me to say the William of Henry and Francis born in 1817 married caroline earl.

Our Henrys father had a Irish accent, cencus state that he was born there, and he was married in Oxford.

Also, in the 1861 cencus of Oxford, there is a Mary, head of house with a son henry 10yrs (correct) and a daughter Masha? 9yrs.
But there is no William. On the childrens birth records in Ireland, It states henry born Birr, Ireland and masha castle-bar Ireland. The birth record said castle-bar for masha/mary.

Thought I would put you clearly in the picture.
Carol

I have just found your message and was very interested to learn that you have a Henry Crapper marrying Martha Lovegrove.

Henry and Martha had a number of children - one of them George Crapper who married Elizabeth Kerslake.

George married Elizabeth: had three children - George, Elizabeth and Edith. Elizabeth was my grandmother.

Elizabeth married Thomas Boakes (2nd married for Thomas; was widower): had a number of children - one of them my father Joseph Boakes.

When I have a chance to collate the above information I will let you know.

Hoping this helps align your family tree.

Your message was a great help.

Christine

On my last e-mail I forgot to mention. Henry and Hephzibah married 29th oct. 1846, St. Giles, Oxford.(www.familysearch.org) Martha died in 1846, same year.
On the 1851 cencus they have one child Ellen 4yrs.
You will see that all the others are frommartha lovegrove and henry as their ages go back to that marriage. (1841 cencus) There is a Lanny also on 1851 cencus. She was born 1839. In between census and again is Marthas child.
Carol

hi, Thank-you for your reply.
Have you any details on William Henry crapper born 1817 to Henry and Francis. Or any old photos.
I am 99 per cent certain that Henry (senior) was my great great great-grand-father.

My great grand-father (for sure) Henry born 1851 in Ireland, was married in Oxford to Annie Kyte. Her father was alfred kyte, a tailor. But we cannot find the descendents.

When Henry and annie had their 1st child they called her Cecilia mary norton Crapper. I am in touch with her grand-daughter. I have her birth cert.
My aunt remembers Henry , her grand-father talking with an irish accent.

My 2nd cousin found a William and mary Nocton married in ireland 1849. He was a soldier serving there. (note-cecilias middle two names)
On the marriage cert. fathers name was Henry, cloth cleaner
A lady? sent me some info with Henry senior married to francis budd. On there was a William henry born 1817. His father henry was a cloth cleaner.
So I am convinced now that the connection is right.
I would love it if you had some info on William, where did he die. What was his wifes name. where were they living in Oxford. Did william have a sister.Photos of his son henry marrying annie kyte.
We found in Ireland a birth of Henry 1851 to William and mary. Also a sister, i think Mary,or martha 1852..On the cert. it lists father william serving as a soldier. As it does also on the marriage cert.

This is a tall order. But some-one must know some-thing of our Henry junior living in Oxford. He is married on the cencus 1871 cencus and living at queen street.
They then went to Essex to live where my aunt grew up with Henry and annie.
Thanks for your troube.
Carol
.

Hi, i am descended from Henry Crapper & Frances Budd. My 3x g grandfather was Charles Crapper born 1815 to Henry & Frances. It would appear that Henry married three times, I have the names of his children from his first two marriages to Frances Budd and Martha Lovegrove but I think he also married a Hephzibah and I don't have details of any children of that marriage. Can you help?
