As complete an Ancestry family tree as I could construct is available for descendents of James Crawford, Rev War veteran of Ireland, Nova Scotia, and Reynoldsburg, OH.

I regret that I cannot answer queries or do lookups. You can also search within the tree.

To find the tree, click on my name next to the photo above and then click on "view profile". My profile will have a list of public trees - select the tree "Descendents of James Crawford of Nova Scotia and Reynoldsburg, OH". Cheers!
Hi Dorothy,

I happen to be the great granddaughter of BR. My grandmother was Ora Etta, BR and Susan's second daughter. I have recently begun researching our family's history as no one has recorded it as of yet. My grammie Ora died in 1995 and my father is the last living child of hers. Did you find any information about BR and Susan? How are you connected to my family? Hope you get this!

I am trying to find birth parents of my deceased father in law. He was born in Richmond Virginia on Dec 12, 1927. He was adopted by a Stephen Nowlin in Hopewell, Va. Charles Crawford is listed in 1930 census as inmate in children's home in Richmond, VA. I do know that his Mother's first name is Mandy. Does anyone have info on a child given up during that time frame. I also know there is some conncetion to Charlottsville Virginia. I appreciate any insight you can give me. Thanks

Well HELLO cousin!!! Your father was my "Uncle Jackie". I remember him well, he had a flair for joking around. He once talked me into biting a bar of soap, saying it was chedar cheese. I lost connection with him for about 50 years, but about 10 years ago I did manage to reach him by phone. You were living on the Cape then. I'd like to know what happened to him for those missing years.

Re: Anderson County, Tennessee

Hi, is it Shannon? I was just doing a random check of posts and came across yours. Ellen Crawford and my gg grandfather, Frank Crawford, were siblings. Ellen, as you know, married George Taylor and moved to Oklahoma. Because she died in 1933, Marlin and I searched for her death certificate to no avail. Our goal was to definitively find the last name of Ellen and Frank's mother, Mary. One sister's death certificate listed her name as Hunter, but there is other conflicting data. I notice that you listed Mary's last name as Parish on your Sartin family tree. What was the basis for that conclusion? It would be wonderful to find Mary's name. As for the Cherokee heritage, several male Crawford descendants, Marlin being one, had DNA testing which reflected somewhere around 20% native american genes. Accounting for dilution, the logical conclusion is that Mary was a full blooded Indian. (The Crawfords have been heavily researched and arrived in North Carolina from Scotland, I believe, some time around the end of the 17th century.) Ellen's father, Adam, her grandmother Elizabeth Harriss Crawford, and several of Adam's siblings, migrated to Anderson County in the 1820's. Ellen's mother, Mary, died on October 2, 1868, as a result of burns she incurred in an accident on September 26, 1868. Not a particularly good way to die. We have a letter from Elvira Crawford (Ellen's sister) to her brother James who had moved to Kentucky. Elvira is obviously heartbroken. Apparently, Mary had been sick in bed all day. She got up late that night to go outside to the latrine. When she returned, she either fainted or got dizzy and toppled into the fire. Elvira wrote James in May 1870 that Adam married Malinda Fritts on December 7, 1869, and from her tone, we know that the family was pretty upset with him. (Adam was in his 60's and Malinda was in her late 20's, early 30's) Elvira notes that the older children left the home after the marriage and Ellen went to live with the Winfield Cobbs. Hope some of this helps. Let me know about the Parish angle. Thanks! Anne Dougherty

Sorry. I have nothing.

Anne is listed in the 1871 census but not in the 1881 census so it would look like she died during the decade. There are no death registrations for an Anne Crawford in that time period so you would have to check the church records (in this case, probably Presbyterian).

Andrew and Anne may have been married in Ireland before they came to Canada.
On closer examination, it looks as though all the children were born to Andrew and Anne; Jane was Andrew's second wife and stepmother to all ten (!) children. Do you have any additional information on Anne Crawford, if only a maiden name?

I'm looking for some Crawford's that were born in Ontario Canada or around New Brunswick, Canada

Thomas Crawford (b. 1800 in Mass ??) and married Cynthis(a) Quick (b. 1805 in Canada)
Married in Canada in 1826

The children are:
John (1827 Canada) married(in 1846 or earlier) to Margaret ??? (b. 1827 Canada)
Thomas (b.1832 in Canada)
Silas (b.1837 in Canada) I think he was baptized in Raleigh Ontario Canada on 12/11/1843
Margaret (b.1839 in Canada) married (in 1864 in Iowa) to Charles Hoff (b.1829 d. 5/4/1865 Wysox, Carroll, Illinois)
William (b.1844 in Canada) married (1870 in Illinois) to Sarah Champlin (b. 1854)
Joseph (b. 1846 Chatham, 1653970, New Brunswick, Canada) married to Louisa Young (b. 12/16/1847 in Fulton Whitside, IL.

Immigration Year seems to be around 1852 from Canada.
From what I can tell the family seems to have moved to Iowa around the 1850’s. In the 1860 census they were in Iowa.

Crawford/Armstrong in Ontario, Canada

It looks as though the "English" in my family is actually Canadian English, from right around 1900. Going back a generation, Richard ARMSTRONG b. 1857 of Wellington, Ontario married Jane CRAWFORD b. 1864. I only know of one child thus far, Agnes Jane ARMSTRONG b. 1882 in either Ontario or Michigan (conflicting information). Agnes married Arthur (John or W) TOZER, approximatly 1900 would be my guess. Their first child, Richard J b. 1901, was supposedly born in Ontario. Two or three later sons were born in Buffalo, NY: Orville (?), William b. 1910, and my paternal grandfather, Robert E., 1917-1986.

I am just starting my research, so any additional information on the Canadian Armstrong or Crawford families in particular would be appreciated. If you have more accurate information concerning the American children as well, please let me know.

This Preston, needs to be looked at more carefully. I had traced Jonathan H Crawford who is my great great grandfather, back to Bledsoe. According to my records he married a Polly Oxshier. ( many spellings for that name)
He is listed in one of the early census with his family which includes my grandfather. Would love to talk to you about this one.
Thanks, Jim

I believe Troy SC would be considered in the Old Edgefield District before divided up -- I am trying to find my GGGF William Henry Crawford's parents. I just know he was born in 1817 in Edgefield District -- nothing else. I believe he is the William Henry Crawford who was born in 1817 in SC and relocated to Harris County, GA. Any info you can add would be helpful.

The mother may have been named Salina or Celia Ann.

Also have found out his brothers and sisters names: Elizabeth (who married Micheal Horn) - born 1812; GeorgeE. Crawford born 4-29, 1816; A. P. Crawford born 1819; Joel W. Crawfod born 2-9-25; Moses Crawford born 1827, and Ann Rebecca Cawford (born 5-18-1829) Does anyone know this family? C. Cook

I took a long reprieve from this Ancestery, and just read your message. I would like to ask more questions.
I would like to know if you have any previous time served in the U.S Army? Stationed at Ft.

I have their whole divorce case . To sum it up,
Theodore was a drinker. He stated that Lettie abandoned him which I don't blame her. She said he borrowed money from her and never paid her back.
She was seeking reimbursement and alimony. She stated he worked at Parish and Bingham and could easily afford it. They had two children, but neither survived. She won her case and remarried Julius. That's where I'm stumped. I can't find a census, death, nothing! I know he was a blacksmith by trade. Maybe we can work together to find out !
