Hello Tom:

did you find a resolution to Ambrose R Creasy? I am in the same situation. I have been bouncing around the internet and haven't yet found something I can document. I believe I'm seeing where there's a Vernon Bird/Byrd Senior (1766)and a Vernon Bird/Byrd Junior (1815 or 1817). I'm also seeing where Senior had a son Bird Smith (1814) and Junior also had a son Bird S (1849). Knowing that Ambrose R was born in 1803, then Senior is the only potential "Bird" father. However, I'm seeing where Senior already had a son in 1803 called Jermiah Logan. Ohhhhh... I am so confused!

So, since some families link Ambrose to Senior and others do not - does any body have a document that defeinitely links Ambrose R to Vernon Bird (Byrd)?

kind thanks!
bethc

Hi Lyn,
After a visit to the optician where the news wasn`t good - I`ve decided to return to my research hoping to get most of it sorted before sight goes altogether. I notice your Creasey`s are from Framlingham. Mine are from there also Framsden and surrounding hamlets. Busy checking all the 1841 - 1911 Census so if you need and help please don`t hesitate.

Pat

I descend from Joshua Scott who married Savonia H. Creasy (her name has been the subject of much research--but it is NOT Savannah as I once thought.Their daughter Irene Weatherford Scott married James T. Updike. Their son, Edison Updike, was my grandfather. Some published research, including Robert Craig's Updike/Updyke of Virginia, has Savonia's name as Lavonia, but I havent see that spelling in primary sources. Joshua died before the 1950 census of Pittsylvania Co, Va where they lived.

One interesting note for Scott researchers: John Scott came to Bedford Co from Halifax Co and paid 15,000 for Fancy Farm from Pascal Buford. He must have made his fortune or inherited it before coming to Bedford. He apparently did not remain wealthy; he didnt keep Fancy Farm very long.

Samuel John 'Johnnie' CREASEY

Born in 1900 in Sibton, Suffolk, England, the above named is/was my Great-Uncle.

Family members (his nephews/nieces) tell me he emigrated in the 1920s and was never heard of in England again. As for where he emigrated to, and when, no-one can recall. :-(

One of my aunts (one of the above mentioned nieces) vaguely recalled Australia being a possible destination for her Uncle Johnnie, but I can find no records of him emigrating on any of the passenger lists available on Ancestry, none of him re-entering the UK (for any reason), and none of his death in the UK, under the name of Samuel Creasey.

I did find records, however, of a John Creasey on the passenger lists, with a date of birth one year earlier than his actually date of birth. I'm wondering whether this might be him... but I feel it would be wrong to just add this information to his record with nothing to substantiate it.

Is there any other place I can look that might hold records for him under either name - Samuel or John?

Can anyone please help me out? Suggestions? Pointers? I realise that, if someone changes their name, it can be extremely hard (if not nigh on impossible) to find them, but I'm hoping I've simply missed something, some records, and am living in hope that someone out there will find him for me.

Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Kazzy

MARKWELL, TODD, POTTS, TODD-POTTS, CREASEY (all in England)
TYMONS (in Ireland)
MANGIN (in Ireland and Canada)
Me again;
Thomas Fletcher Norwood married Mary Eliza Creasy. Thomas was the brother of Andrew J. Norwood and Mary Eliza Creasy is the sister of Elizabeth Josephine Creasy. So brothers married sisters in this case. Both of these Creasy girls are sisters to my gr, gr uncle, William LaFate Creasy.
Thomas Fletcher Norwood and Mary Eliza Creasy were married Sept 27, 1888 in Stoddard Co., MO.

Missouri Marriage Records, 1805-2002
Name: Mary E Creasey
Marriage Date: 27 Sep 1888
Marriage Location: Stoddard, Missouri
Marriage County: Stoddard
Spouse Name: Thomas T Norwood--should be F.

They had six children also.
Thomas was born July 7, 1865 in TN and died Aug 21 1949 in Morehouse New Madrid Co., MO. He is buried in the Bernie Cem. in Bernie, Stoddard Co., MO.
Mary Eliza died in 1903, I am not sure where she died or where she is buried at yet.
I do have some more on these Norwoods if you would like to have it, please e-mail me.
Charlotte
ly68@charter.net

Hi Dick;
I have that Elizabeth Josephine Creasy was first married to Andrew J. Norwood, He was born in 1862 in TN according to the 1870-1880 censuses.

Missouri Marriages, 1851-1900
about Elizabeth J. Creasey
Name: A. J. Norwood
Spouse: Elizabeth J. Creasey
Marriage Date: 6 Apr 1889
County: Dunklin
State: MO

I have that Andrew died sometime between 1889 and 1894. Simply becasue of the year she married again. I have no children listed for them. There are no Norwood step children listed as living with Elizabeth and Thomas Wiley. So I am assuming that she and Andrew had no children. No other family members researching the Creasy/Norwood families have found any that I know of either.
Elizabeth's second husband was Thomas Allen Wiley. They married in 1894 and did have six kids.
I'm sorry that I don't have more, but I hope this helps you some.
Charlotte McClain Christensen
ly68@charter.net

I am confused. I have read several discussions which say that Elizabeth Josephine Creasy married a Wiley and had six children with him, that she died in Colorado. Was Andrew Norwood her first husband and did he die early in their marriage and she go on to marry Wiley? I can't find Andrew Norwood at all after 1880.
Thanks,
Dick Norwood

I am researching the Norwoods and am interested in knowing about Thomas Fletcher Norwood's son, George. Did he marry and have children? I administer the Norwood Y-DNA Project at Family Tree DNA and am looking for Norwood men who would be willing to have their DNA tested. We have several Norwood lineages now and the project has helped confirm or refute relationships that have been suggested through conventional genealogical research. I've been able to use on-line resources to trace a lot of this Norwood family forward, but the generation born in the 1880s and 1890s is proving difficult to find. Different lines of this family moved out of Tennessee to Missouri, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and California, and not always in larger family units, so it is challenging. I'd be so grateful for any help tracing these Norwood families forward. Thank you. Richard Norwood.

Tn.Steven P. John H.Mary Polly, and Judy. They came to Tennessee about 1831. Her husband V Bird died in Va. about that time. the only other child could have been Sinar Creasy, since that name is known in our family in the area.

Hi All,
I'm researching Creasys who were enslaved people on the farms of General John Hartwell Cocke in Bremo Bluff, VA and Cedarville, Alabama?

I have records of a Ben and Judy Creasy who had several sons, including Anthony Creasy who married Lavinia Skipwith. Anthony and Lavinia had several children and eventually those children had a grandchild named Lavinia, also, who lived in Bremo Bluff in 1880 and was born in ~1870.

I'd love to find Ben and Judy's descendants, and I would be more than happy to share the research I have found if it would be useful to anyone.

Thank you so much.

I was using the function on FTM which allows a person to search family trees and merge information. In looking at several family trees listing Ambrose Ransom Creasy (b. 1803 in Virginia; moved to Decatur County, Tennessee), I noticed one family tree lists his parents as Thomas Ransom Creasy & Drucilla Dowdy, while some others list the parents as Vernon Bird/Byrd Creasy and Mary Dowdy.

Has anyone looked at this discrepancy? Given that many of the FTM are not sourced and I am to lazy to travel to Virginia to research the primary records, I figured I would see if anyone around here has done the actual research.

FYI - Ambrose Ransom Creasy is my great-great grandfather.

-tom murphy

very neat....I am descended through his son John who married Martha Crowe. Their daughter Ola Mae Creasy Meador was my great grandmother. By chance, have you ever read Joseph and Emily's divorce decree? My uncle gave me a copy. I took my grandmother driving the other day and she showed me Emily and Joseph's graves. She was able to show me where the creasy farm used to be.

I'm familiar with that memoir. Him being adopted would explain why the name is mentioned in a list of "apprentices". I've got tons of family info about him and his brother, their wives, children, etc. but can find no record of his actual parentage. Thanks for the info. I am descended from him through his daughter, Leona Alice. Her daughter, Leatha Dorris, was my maternal grandmother.
