My late grandmother was a Hindman from Chidester, daughter of Robert Hindman. I am scanning all our family photos and have just finished "Aunt Mamie & Uncle Lum" written on the back in my grandmother's hand. No date, unfortunately, but it could well be their wedding photo; they're quite young. Another undated photo I just finished, too, reads, "Grandmother Hindman, Aunt Mittie Creech Hindman (Uncle Si Hindman wife), Aunt Rosie Creech Hindman (Uncle Finias Hindman wife)". These are original photographs, not copies. I will send a quality copy via email to anyone interested. vatican56@yahoo.com

Diane, Larry Joe Creech was born Feb. 15 194?.... sorry I would have to look it up. I don't know that Larry ever lived in California, but don't know that he didn't either. He has three biological sons Wesley, Douglas and Danny with wife Vivian that I am aware of. He then married Sherry ? and adopted her daugher Sheila. He then married me Shirley Houchen and adopted my son Ray. He had a half sister Mary Frances and a brother Jerry Creech but I never heard of a brother named Bruce. Could be one they didn't know about. We were married in 1982 and he passed in January 1988. If I can help let me know shir3@yahoo.com.
Shirley,
My husband was born Laing Creech. His father was named Larry Creech. His parents divorced when he was 7 and he never saw his father again. They were living in Sacramento, California at the time. I know his father is deceased and the January 1988 date of death that you mentioned seems possible. I know that Larry remarried and had several other children including a son who was older than Laing from a prior relationship. Larry also had a brother named Bruce. Does any of this sound like it could describe the Larry you mentioned? My husband would like to find his brothers and sisters.
Diane Baer

New VA-KY Creech Resources Available

On my website are four files relevant to families of John, Jonathan and Elijah Creech of Lee Co VA and Harlan Co. KY, beginning about 1800. Because there are so many trees online with inaccurate information, a few years ago I started on these families from scratch, with three goals: 1) to use only census and other public records available electronically 2) to mark those assignments that are not proved to my satisifaction (and I tried to set the bar pretty high) and 3) to show the references and notes for each assignment.

Those files are available at http://www.billcarroll.org, under the tab called “Miscellaneous” and they represent analysis and transcription by my own hand. No material was downloaded directly.

There are four Excel spreadsheet files. I realize this is an unusual format, but family tree software either made it difficult to show notes and references, or more difficult to enter the material. The upside is, in the "Census by Year" file each row is one person and columns have one census year. A person's life through different censuses can be seen very quickly. And the downside is, you can’t wholesale load this material into a family tree program.

On the other hand, I see that as kind of an upside as well, and I realize I’m being a little curmudgeonly. It means that you have to interact with the information, think about it, critique it, and enter just what you need for your tree. I’m hoping to get some discussion and different points of view as a result.

About the files.

"Creech Census to 1900" contains all the census lines for Creech variant names from 1790 to 1900 for the entire USA. It can be useful no matter what geographic branch of the Creech Family you're researching. This file contains only Creech names.

"VA-KY-Creech Index" is the place to start if you are researching John, Jonathan or Elijah Creech of Lee and Harlan Counties. In this index, all direct Creech descendant family members (including non-Creech names) are listed alphabetically and associated with a Creech Number. The Creech Number is the way of finding that person's census data and lineage in the other two files.

Another copy of this file is also sorted so that the non-Creech-blood spouses are indexed alphabetically.

"VA-KY-Creech Census by Year" contains all descendants organized by family in order of age and in order of Creech Number. Jonathan and Elijah are substantially complete to 1920. John is complete to 1900 with some 1910 and 1920. There are about 8800 individuals listed in the index and census by year.

"VA-KY-Creech Raw Census" (Excel or Plain Text version) contains a partial transcription of the census lines from 1820 to 1920 and is the basis for the Census by Year file. There are nearly 20,000 census lines entered here.

The Creech to 1900 Instructions and VA-KY-Creeches Instruction files give more information on each of these. I apologize for the size of the data files.

Please feel free to send me a note via this list or at wm.f.carroll@gmail.com if you have difficulties, thoughts, additions or corrections. I think the system works smoothly, but this is the acid test.

Bill Carroll

Hello All,
I am the granddaughter of Aljron Fredrick Creech, son of John Wesley and Martha Creech. I will attach my information on this branch of the family - hope it comes across okay. Marsil Creech from New Mexico did extensive research on the Creech family, but died a while back. When I was reseaching she helped fill in some of the gaps. Her comment is below about the 1900 census in Osage Indian District is that John W. was a joker. My grandfather (Aljron) was on his own at age 12 - according to the stories I heard. He married my grandmother (Jorgine or Gina Madsen) who came to this country from Denmark on 3/7/1906. My uncle (Alfred Harold) was born in July 1909 in Billings MT - my mother (Ida Marie) was born in Nov 1910 in Billings MT. When Ida was 10 they moved to Shell Lake, WI to homestead on opened railroad land......they had stopped on the way in NE to see Esaw Creech and Garrett. Ida was close to her cousin Agnes Creech (daughter of Garrett and Eunice) - she eventually ended up in TX - she mentioned Aunt Alice (Butz) and corresponded with them.....but I never was in touch with them. All the children listed below were from the union between John W and Martha. I meet Fay Creech when my husband and I honeymooned in California in 1969.

Creech Family History
Husband: Carl Edmund FERGUSON
Wife: Shirley Marie COOK
Father: Harold Arnold COOK
Mother: Ida Marie CREECH
Grandfather: Aljron Fredrick CREECH
Grandmother: Ane Christine Jorgine Marie MADSEN
Great Grandfather: John Wesley CREECH
Great Grandmother: Martha Ann LYONS
2nd wife Florence LENA Jordon: 3rd Evelyn Conry

Great Great Grandfather: Esaw (Esau) Wilks CREECH
Great Great Grandmother: Elizabeth Jane WILLIAMS

Great Great Great Grandfather: Isaac CREECH
Great Great Great Grandmother: Mariah PENNINGTON

Husband:
Aljron Fredrick CREECH (Grandfather)
Birth date: 1/10/1889
Where: Augusta, KS
Death date: 10/22/1966
Burial: Shell Lake, WI

Married: 4/5/1908 in Billings, MT

Wife:
Ane Christine Jorgine Marie Madsen (Grandmother)
Birth date: 8/14/1886
Where: Filholm, DENMARK
Death date: 3/3/1963
Burial: Shell Lake, WI

Children
Alfred Harold CREECH
Birth date: 7/11/1909
Where: Billings, Montana (Yellowstone County) – SS # issued in Minnesota
Death date: 12/1972
Burial: Shell Lake, WI
Married Inez Bessie Born June 14, 1909: Died August 1981

Ida Marie CREECH (Mother)
Birth date: 11/10/1910
Where: Billings, MT (Yellowstone County) Born in a SODDY house.
Death date: 6/1986
Burial: Spooner, WI

Husband:
John Wesley CREECH (G Grandfather)
Birthdate: 5/20/1860
Where: Gatewood, Clay County Illinois
Death date: 4/7/1940
Burial: Pueblo, Colorado

Married 3/3/1879 in Clay County Illinois

Wife:
Martha Ann Lyons (G Grandmother)
Birthdate: 1/7/1858
Where: Clay County Illinois
Death date: 6/29/1904
Burial: Granada, Colorado (Prowers County)

Children:
Sylvester CREECH (Died as a baby, on the high prairie, Chase Co., Kansas)

Alice Victoria CREECH – Feb. 27, 1881 – Eureka, Kansas (Married Henry Charles Butz 1871-1940)

Grover Cleveland CREECH – Nov. 11, 1886-2/9/1971 –B: Eureka, KS (Barton Count) D: Basin, WY (Mount View Cemetery) WIFE: Clemie Lissie Wilson Children: Joe H. He must have been a joker-records do contradict that. Some of this info came from a written statement by his father, Esaw/Esau CREECH elderly years. The dates are all messed up but otherwise the names work well.

NOTE: Osage Ind Dist Oklahoma-the Osage Indians of Oklahoma had their own territory before statehood. Oklahoma became a state ca. 1912 maybe-late anyway. So they are not listed in the regular Oklahoma census records. My daddy would take me to see him all the time when I was little. I am 29 now and live in another state but I do remember them.

I do know my dad knows Emerson and Edision.
Re: Creech Family

Mike has a great catch there. There is no census where Garrett H. Creech appears with the father claimed on this death certificate, which makes it tough. I think the DC is probably correct, though. Garrett was a long way from other Creeches. There's no reason his family should know about John W. Creech and Martha Lyons from Kansas unless they were related. They were, in fact, married when he was born in 1881. That's not a trivial fact, as I'll mention later.

This John W. is son of Esau Wilkes Creech, with ancestors as Mike reports them.

Garrett appears in two US censuses: 1910, CO Logan ED 239, family 195; age 29 (1881) [Eunice, age 27 (1883)] and 1920, NE Merrick ED 157, family 265; age 39 (1881)[Eunice, age 37 (1883)]. He also appears in one Kansas census: 1905 KS Meade, Crooked Creek Fam 37: G. H. 24 , E.N. 24, S.A. 8mo. None of these people seem to be in the 1895 Kansas state census. In the US Censuses Garrett reports he was born in Kansas. In 1910 he reports his father was b IL; in 1920 he reports his father was b MO. 1910 is correct if his father was John W.

In 1920 Garrett has seven live children listed: Seth A., Edgar H., Essie V., Agnes, Myrtle, Bessie, and James. I don't see a Lewis, and Garrett does not seem to appear in the 1930 census. When was your father born?

John W.'s family history is a mess. He was first married to Martha Lyons, as reported by DeborahDeweyGravett here on Ancestry: Marriage Clay Co IL 3 Mar 1879 Marriage #1 Certificate No. 224, Page 18. In 1900 he is in Indian Territory, but the census line is nuts:

1900 IT, Osage/Kaw Indian Reservation, ED 255 p. 17 Fam 199: Creech, John W, HH, 52y, (05/48) M31, FRA.SWE.SWE, Nat 1864--Really?; Creech, Martha, W, 53y, (01/47) M31, 7,6c, IL.KY.IN; Creech, Grover C, S, 12y, (11/87) KS.FRA.IL; Creech, Aljorn F, S, 10y, (01/90) KS.FRA.IL; Jordan, Lara F, Srv, 28y, (09/71) Wd, KS.MO.IN; Jordan, Roy, Brd, 5y, (08/94) KS.IL.KS; Jordan, Fay, Brd, 3y, (08/96) MO.IL.KS; Irving, Thomas, Brd, 25y, (07/74) TX.TN.IL;

I doubt there's ever been a Creech born in France whose parents were born in Sweden, and both John and Martha are reported to be born 10 years earlier than they are in 1880:

1880 KS, Greenwood, Salem ED 97 p. 9 Fam 78: Creech, John W., HH, 20y, M, IL.VA.VA; Creech, Martha A., W, 22y, M, IL.IN.KY; Creech, Newton S., S, 0y, 5m, KS.IL.IL;

Just to make matters worse, Newton never shows up again.

Now, on balance, working with what we have, I think the 1900 family truly is the 1880 family, based on Martha's parents places of birth. But it's pretty squirrelly. And it gets worse.

Notice there is a servant, Lara F. Jordan, reportedly widowed, living with them in 1900, and she has two children, Roy age 5 (b 1895) and Fay age 3 (b 1897). But hang on--here is the census line in 1910:

1910 MT, Yellowstone, Billings Wd 3 ED 248 p. 8B Fam 157: Creech, John, HH, 50y, M1,16, IL.VA.VA; Creech, Lena, W, 42y, M1,16, 3 born,3 alive, KS.IL.IL; Creech, Roy, S, 16y, KS.IL.KS; Creech, Fay, D, 14y, MO.IL.KS; Creech, Azial, D, 5y, KS.IL.KS

Roy and Fay are now listed as Creeches. Martha is gone. Lara/Lena is now married to John, and says they've been married since 1894, and it's the first marriage for both of them. For good measure, some others of John's children are also in Billings that year.

So I'm kind of at a loss. Couple of possibilities. 1) Lara/Lena truly is a widow, and her children are legitimate. John married her about 1904 and they are fuzzing up the date of marriage and the names of children to manage appearances. 2) Roy and Fay are illegitimate children of Lara/Lena and somebody, this truly is her first marriage and the census "facts" are meant to cover that up by giving them a name. 3) Roy and Fay really are John's children and he eventually married their mother. I think 1 is the most logical, but I can’t rule out the other two on the sketchy data I have .

John does not appear in the 1920 census.

So, thats probably both more and less than you wanted. I find this particular family kind of vexing, and I'm working on running down a couple of contacts who might be able to fill things in.

But my most likely case is: Garrett is s/o John W and Martha Lyons. He is son of Esau, son of Isaac son of old Elijah. Deborah Gravett's tree for John

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/1422335/person/-1905826487

is pretty informative.

Bill Carroll

"Hello I am also looking for Creech family. My husband's father is Lewis Creech. He is the son of Eunice N. and Garrett H. Creech. Both died in 1966 a couple of months apart in Dallas County. They are buried at Restland in Dallas."

You say your husband's grandparents are a Garrett and Eunice Creech, buried in Dallas. A search of Texas death recs on Family Search turns up the following hits:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&a...

Top result looks right and gives parents of Garrett as John Wesley Creech and Martha Lyons, with Garrett born in KS.

Quick look at Rootsweb World Connect trees shows:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

This tree looks mostly right with John W s/o Esau s/o Isaac s/o Old Elijah. Once you get to Elijah the errors really appear and past Elijah definitely should be ignored.

Note there is a discrepancy between the birth state given for Garret on his death cert (KS) and the one on the tree (IL). But overall the timeline looks right for the family so that is not a big deal, although the right birthplace can probably be nailed down by correlating more records with these. Also a ten year difference in age.

The main question with all of this is whether the right John W is placed in the right Creech house in KS. There is another JW in a line from OH for example. So while the tree looks right lower down I would cross check everything to make sure the right guy is in the right family unit.

Perhaps Bill Carroll may come along with something else to add.
With the common name of all common names, that is a tough order to fill, i.e. finding what happened to him (and I am sure your father realizes the unlikelihood of his still being alive at around 94ish).

Still more detail is needed. I made a couple quick checks of the census in 1920 and 1930 but do not find a lulu smith with a son John A. Obviously it would help to identify some of his family like siblings or nephews/nieces to ask about him.

My suggestion at this point is for you to try to locate the divorce record and the associated marriage record. The marriage record in particular may have parental information.

Also if you have not already done so, you could try working your grandmother's family for information, especially the women. Female relatives by marriage have always provided me with more information on their husbands' families than the husbands themselves.

The bottom line is that you need to find much more information so that you can know if you do come across a record of your grandfather that it is indeed his.

Locating your grandparents' marriage record is especially important as it may lead to his family. At that time in Kentucky marriages were recorded on the county level only. So you need to know the county.

Its not an adoption. He is my fathers dad. He divorced my grandmother in 1946, her name was Anna M. Hoerst. Apparently John A. either just left his kids or she didn't let him around them. She is passed on now and when she was here wouldn't talk about the situation at all. All my father talks about is finding him and just wants to know the truth. Im am trying to do this for him and i just don't know how or there just isn't any records on him. The only thing we know of him later in life was he was in the us navy and we have a picture of him on a ship and that is it. Thank you so much for what your doing. Bernadette Sukow

The KY birth index does not show a John Smith about 1917 to a Creech or a first name of lulu. The only Smiths born in 1917 whose mother had a Creech maiden name were a Delza in Knott Co and a William in Wolfe Co.

You simply need more information about John A Smith later in life so as to be able to work his life backwards.

Is this an adoption case for John A Smith or yourself? If so you can waste an awful lot of time chasing bad/weak information further back. When what is needed is the most recent information possible to use as a starting point.

So for example when did John A Smith die, and have you looked for his obit and death certificate?

This is ten years after you posted your williness to share information on Arthur Creech son of Benjamin Franklin Creech. I'm working on that line and am curious what info you have. He connected with our family when he married Clara Bell Rall in 1905 in Dodge City, KS. Their marriage evidently dissolved in about 1911 after two daughters were born. I believe I've found him again married to Grace Kelly and living eventually in N.Y.
Does that jibe with what you have?
Roy:

I apologize for not replying sooner. Your message didn't feed through to my e-mail. I have you in my database coming down through Charles/Cora and Roy Alvin/Anna and born in CA in 1930. Correct?

Curiously, I did get an e-mail from another person looking for Lewis, and I thought I could be more help. I used to have a link to a FindAGrave posting for Lewis, and my notes from that show he died in 1905; unfortunately that link doesn't work any more and I can't find him by searching de novo on FindAGrave. His wife Alice died in 1942 and is buried in Stillwater OK, that's still on FindAGrave.

I think the 1905 date may be right, however. He appears to have been married twice; first to Susannah White (everyone has this one) and second to an Alice Dowell, with whom he had six children, the last ca 1903. He and Susannah were apparently divorced because he is present in the 1900 census in IT with Alice: IT Chickasaw ED 127, 377; 48 (1852) [Alice E., 30 (1870)]. Alice is next found in New Mexico 1910 as a widow, and perhaps they were on their way there and he died in Texas. Pure speculation on my part.

Anyway, please let me know if this moves the ball forward and if you hear any more.
Re: Richard Creech - or was he Richard Critchton Critchton?

Leola, I am sorry but some of your information is incorrect.

The following is from another website regarding the Creich Family line in Scotland to the US.

The nearly solid rock mound in an old marsh offered a good place to build a defensive tower. Rock gave a solid foundation and marsh slowed the advance of the enemy. In the 8th and 9th centuries Viking raiders rowed their longships up the river looking for rich farms to attack. The ridge between the rock mound and the Tay afforded a lookout point little noticed from the river. If the Vikings did stop to attack, there was time to gather goods and people to the rock mound in the middle of the marsh.

The Earl MacDuff chose this site for one of his defensive towers. A trustworthy family of his clan was installed as Constable of this new defensive tower south of the River Tay. Called Creich Castle - a castle on a rock in Gaelic language, very similar to old Celtic French language. Queen Gruoch (Lady MacBeth of the old Scoto-Pictish royal line) was contemporary to and cousin to King Malcom Canamore. Malcom killed most of the rivals of the Clan MacDuff (Queen Gruoch line). Malcolm and Margaret Althing of England produced several children. Aethelred, oldest son, married the heiress of Clan MacDuff (Queen Gruoch line). He was installed as Earl of Fife and Abbott of Abernethy to reduce tensions between rivals.

Aethelred and his wife (Scoto-Pictish royal line) produced several children. The oldest son was to inherit Earldom of Fife. One of the younger sons was installed as Constable of Creich, probably, as was the custom, by marriage into the Creich family. This son and his wife lived in Creich Castle as part of the extended royal family. Also, as was the custom, the oldest son inherited property; later sons were installed as knighted clergy. This way the family was able to hold administrative, military, and religious control of their assigned territory for the Crown.

The first Creich by name is recorded as Donald de Creich, a knighted cleric, after the fashion of the new Norman society. Simon de Creich was the religious Canon of Moray. The male line of Creich Castle family failed in 1353. The oldest daughter married Andrew Murdock, contemporary of King James I. Reared in the Norman English court with King James, both went back to Scotland as young men. Andrew Murdock was the grandson of King Robert Bruce, son of Robert, Earl of Fife who died in 1420. Andrew Murdock now became the Duke of Albany, strongest figure in Scotland, second to the king. Married to a wife reared at Creich Castle, related by blood and marriage to most of the landed gentry of Fife, the Duke spent much time in the rich farmland area. Edinburgh was full of strife and intrigue. Creich was peaceful and family.

King James V had a first son by a distant relative, but the child was born out of wedlock (very common occurence in the best of families). This son, Lord James Stuart, was not elligible to be king, so was created the Earl of Moray. I believe Moray moved the studious members of family Creich to Edinburgh to be his trusted clerical staff.

Kinsmen of the Leddel and Beaton families were installed as Constable of Creich Castle. Farmers of Creich family stayed on the farm to continue to produce the food required by the favorite royal castle of Falklands. The Laird of Creich, Beaton by name, had an older brother who was the Archbishop of St. Andrews nearby. The third son of Laird Creich, Davie Beaton, went to work for his uncle, the Archbishop of St. Andrews. Hard-working, he married a distant cousin named Margaret, daughter of Lord Ogilvie of Airlie. Lord Ogilvie was and is now the Chief of the ancient Pict clan of Ogilvie and Angus, living at Castle Airles Angus.

Scotland needed a superb ambassador to France and Davie Beaton was appointed. While in France, Beaton was persuaded to take Holy Orders of the French Roman Catholic Church. Now Beaton was eligible to become the Archbishop of St. Andrews and ancient Kingdom of Fife. Davie Beaton did, in fact, follow his uncle to this postion. He was married to Lady Margaret Ogilvie for his entire Iifetime. When asked about being a priest and also married, he replied," I was married in Scotland. Later became a priest in France. Two countries and two different set of rules. I shall remain both!" Davie Beaton, Archbishop of St. Andrews was now the senior priest of both Roman Catholic and Old Celtic religious orders...Primate of Scotland.

Margaret and Davie were devoted to each other, and produced many healthy children. It seems that Lady Margaret lived most of her life at Creich Castle within the household of her father-in-law, the Laird of Creich. Those were violent times and disputes were settled by violence to all parties involved. Being reared in Creich Castle, most of the children of Davie and Margaret used the name Creich. Their grandfather was the Laird of Creich, a royal property !

The children of Davie Beaton and Lady Margaret Ogilvie were reared in Creich Castle with full knowledge of their ancestry. On their father's side were the Earl MacDuff, Robert the Bruce, Earl MacBeth, Queen Gruoch, the Malcolm Kings, Queen Margaret Althing of Hungarian royalty, English royalty and Thor Finn the Mighty's sister, Queen lngaborg, first wife of Malcolm Canamore III. On their mother's side their grandfather was Lord Ogilvie Earl of Angus, descendant of the Pictish kings of Angus. These children knew they were not ordinary landless peasants! They were children of Creich Castle, a royal property for 600 years!

Mary, Queen of Scots, had four ladies-in-waiting. One was Mary Beaton of Creich. Queen Mary often wrote of the kindness of the Laird of Creich in keeping Castle Falklands with plenty of good food while she lived at Falkland. The town of Creich, Scotland, grew up with Creich parish as a market place for Church.

By the time John Knox returned to Scotland preaching Calvinism, the Scottish throne and supporting nobility were corrupt. The nobility was using the Church in a way never seen before in Europe. Church was part and parcel of the scheme to keep control of the people and the nation. Christianity was preached, but not practiced. The Archbishop of St. Andrews, Davie Beaton of Creich Castle, religious primate of Scotland, made an enemy of Henry VIII of England, who wanted his daughter on the throne of Scotland. Beaton supported Mary as queen. No agreement could be reached. King Henry sent a professional assassin to murder Beaton. Learning of the plot, Beaton had the assassin tried and convicted of heresy. He watched from his episcopal window as George Wisehart burned at the stake. The next year a group of Scots nobles crept into Beaton's bedroom and stabbed him to death. They hanged his naked body by the ankle from the same episcopal window for all to see. Any friends or family of Davie Beaton, Archbishop of St. Andrews, were under death threats. The Laird of Creich and his family fled. John Knox preached for their death, and the castle was occupied by his followers and the property convered to his use. Mary, Oueen of Scots, was driven from the nation, Creich Castle was no longer a royal property and the official religion became Presbyterian.

To sunvive they must change their name and renounce their ancestors or keep their family name and leave home. Surely some chose security and renounced their heritage. The defiant ones kept their name and moved to areas where the name Creich was not associated with Archbishop Davie Beaton. Thus did the family name of Creich disappear from Castle Creich after 600 years of living there.

Richard Creich (Creech is the English spelling) emigrated to Jamestown, Virginia, as a mercenary guard to the English tobacco farmers. This Richard was killed on the outer perimeter of Jamestown during an attack by indians. His wife and daughter also died, but his two sons away at school at the time survived to become ancestors of the Family Creich in the colonies.

The above is the correct information on Richard Creech.

The Creech Family in the US came from Scotland aboard the Journeyman in 1635. The name was Richard Creech who was a guard and was killed by the indians during a battle with his wife, Frances, and an infant daughter. Their 2 sons, Nicholas and Henry were the survivors. In Scotland, Creech was mostly spelled as Creich. You can google Richard Creech and find so much about our family tree. Hope this helps.

I hate to say this but your information is incorrect. The correct spelling of Creech from Scotland was actually Creich and not "Critch". There is an area in Fife Scotland named Creich as well.

Also about the Creich History: The nearly solid rock mound in an old marsh offered a good place to build a defensive tower. Rock gave a solid foundation and marsh slowed the advance of the enemy. In the 8th and 9th centuries Viking raiders rowed their longships up the river looking for rich farms to attack.

To survive they must change their name and renounce their ancestors or keep their family name and leave home.

My husband is a Creech and his family are from Liverpool Lancashire (as was), there were also a lot of Creech's in the Isle of Man so you may have some luck trying these 2 places. The name Creech is also common around Dorset as well as Somerset where there are the villages/towns of Creech St Michael and Evercreech. Good Luck
