I am the great grandaughter of Elizabeth Jane Reed Cooke nee Creese the eldest sister of Henry so henry was also my great great uncle. You mentioned that you thought Henry was married twice I don't think that was the case.Ihave been looking at Henry's marriage and I think he was only married once. I have found the birth of Eliz Anne inceldon Napton in Falmouth on 1871. The marriage of henry Philip Creese to an Elizabeth Anne Inceldon Napton in Cardiff 1894. This links to a probate entry for Elizabeth Anne Inceldon Creese in 1937. Ihave also found a 'Leslie Family Tree'with a marriage entry for Henry and Annie giving their full names. It seems that because Annie's full name was not always used someone has jumped to the conclusion that there were two wives but I have not been able to trace a second marriage and because of the details above I don't think there was one. Please keep in touch
Henry Philip Creese (1868 - 1912) who lost his life on Titanic, was my Great, Great Uncle.

His first wife, we think was Annie Napton Creese (born in Falmouth, Cornwall) (1861-?) who had Dorothy Victoria Creese (1897), Henry Creese (died at age 6), and Gladys Creese (1904). Some think Annie might have died while in childbirth.

Henry remarried Elizabeth Anne Incledon who sometimes went by the name as Annie because of her middle name. She might also in some cases be refered to as 'Annie Creese'.

Eliza creese (Paine / Nicoll) is by her first Marriage to William Henry Paine, my Great great grandmother. The son of this marriage, also William Henry Paine became a doctor in London as did his son, my grandfather Bernard Willaim Paine, and my mother remembers visiting "the aunts" - Florence and Nell (Eleanor Bond Nicoll) at Weston S-M. who never married, but i have had no knowlwedge until today of what happened to some of the other cousins or where to look for them so thank you

Dear Jane

I have replied to Sally who added a response to your 2008 message a week or so ago and am copying it to you in hope you log in too .
It will show a little bit about who emigrated and if you are interested in hearing more - at least as far as I have got you are welcome.
How are you decended from Eliza/ Elizabeth for interest?
I am one of Augusta's many great grandchildren and am in touch with some of her grandchildren still living.
Emigrants in the family there are plenty:
in 1901 Eliza is in Weston super Mare with her daughters Eleanor and Florence and visting her is her sister Augusta with her new baby son Hugh Wesley a few months old.
He and his older brother Thomas Henry both emigrated to the States and the former became a newspaper editor and the latter a Methodist minister.
But they were far from the first - George Paine, Eliza's first brother in law, emigrated to Canada and subsequently became President of the Methodist Conference in Newfoundland and Augusta's brother- in -law , youngest brohter of Thomas Smith her husband, was called John BJ Smith and he emigrated in hte 1880s and became a Methodist minister in Indiana and Minnesota.
There is a lot more but I am not very systematic about entering it on ancestry but if you would like to get in touch please do.
best wishes
Heather

Dear SAlly
Realise that it isn't me from whom you are expecting a reply but thought it was time to make contact with all these Creese researchers!
Your thoughts are quite right.
Yes, it is indeed the same person- Augusta is my great grandmother and certainly the half sister of Eliza Creese, later Paine, and later Nicholl.
Indeed in the 1891 census Augusta is staying with Eliza in Weston Super Mare with her( Augusta's) baby son Hugh Wesley, and also present are Eliza's two daughters Eleanor and Florence. George, her son, is in Bristol.
It is Hugh Wesley, the baby in this 1891 "snapshot" and his older brother Thomas Henry who both emigrate to the United States- Thomas in 1905 first and then going back a little later with Wesley.
Thomas became a Methodist minister and lived in the Dakotas and elsewhere and Wesley became a newspaper editor including in Walhalla North Dakota.
But there were earlier emigrants in this family - and all of them related to Methodism.
George Paine, brother of William, Eliza's first husband emigrated to Canada and became later President of the Methodist Conference in Newfoundland, and Augusta's brother in law, John B J Smith, emigrated in the 1880s and was a minister in Indiana and Minnesota.
Augusta has a number of grandchildren living, including my aunt and my cousin in the United States ( Thomas'son).
Please let me know if you would like to get in touch.
I am hopeless at posting the inforamation on Ancestry though another cousin gets on with it better than I at least to a point.
This is Augusta in mid life taken at the family home in Usk by my grandfather who married Augusta's middle daughter Ella.
(In the attachment)
It is from a glass slide for his magic lantern now in the care of my cousin - we sorted all these slides last Spring.
And the long ago post about the scandal of Eliza and William Nicholl is indeed a great story - but not necessarily the way the book about Usk cited mentions !
hope to hear from you.
Heather

Forest Scott Creese and First Wife Mary Helen Heasley Information

My grandmother was one of the children of Forest and Mary Helen. Here is the information I have of their first family:

Sidney Sherman Creese (male), born 10 Dec 1910 in Pittsburgh, PA, died July 1962.

Helen May Creese, my grandmother (female), born 14 Sep 1914 in Pittsburgh, PA, died 16 Aug 1986 in San Diego, CA.

Forest Scott Creese, Jr. (male), born 5 Sep 1916 in Pennsylvania, died 11 Aug 1972 in San Diego, CA.

Marion Irene Creese (female), born 25 May 1919 in Pennsylvania. We are not sure if she is still living but my mother is trying to figure this out.

Betty Lorraine Creese (female), born 23 Apr 1925 in San Diego, CA, died 17 Oct 2006 in Twin Falls, ID.

My mother did not even know about Betty Lorraine until I saw her name online and contacted "Carolhow" on ancestry.com after seeing her "Howell Family Tree." After talking, I found out that my great grandfather (Forest Scott Sr.) and great grandmother Mary Helen Heasley had divorced and that about 8 months later, Betty was born. Forest had married his 2nd wife, Myrtle Mae Swallow (7 Aug 1924). Mary Helen gave Betty up for adoption to a "Monroe" family. This is what Carolhow (aka Meghan) told me:

"Regarding Betty Loraine. From what I am told, Forest Sr paid child support on his children but he never paid for Betty. When Forest and Mary Helen divorced in Jul 1924 (to our knowledge) Forest Sr had not seen his children and first wife for sometime. They were in California and he was in PA. He remarried my grandmother in Aug of 1924. Betty was not born until April 23rd of 1925. I also have been in contact with Betty's children and they said that "Betty was given to live with the Monroe's and did not know that she was a Creese until later on in life. I had made contact with Betty who now resides in Ketchakan Alaska. She was raised by another family and did not know she was a Creese until she was 31 years old. She thinks she had a sister but she has never been able to confirm that."

I'm wondering...Could Mary Helen have gotten pregnant by another man? Or did Forest just not want to support his 5th child from his first marriage? We don't know. My mom said that her mother never mentioned Betty Lorraine (I'm guessing my grandmother saw that her mother was pregnant but have no clue what she knew).

The mystery continues.
I am descended from the Western Penn, Pennsylvania Dutch family CREESE. My great-great grandparents were John S. and Nancy Creese. Family tradition has it that our name was originally spelled with a K. Since Creese is really an English surname, my guess is that the German Kries family changed their name some time after arriving in PA.

I saw a posting about Johannes KRIES (or CRIES) who arrived on the Sally in 1770. I was wondering if anyone can link this Kries to the Creese line.

Richard Creese

Hi,
I don't think our Annies are the same. While doing my search I came across an Annie Creese, on the Elis Island website. She was member of the crew of the Titanic sister ship the Olympic. Also there were 2 members of the Titanic with the name Creese. Henry and William. Henry died in the accident and his wifes name was Annie.

Take a look at these pages:
http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/capt-william-creese.htm

http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/titanic-biography/henry...

http://www.ellisisland.org/

Hope this helps,
Claudia
One of their sons was named John Haner Creese so there is a connection and I am trying to find it. Henry and his sons did go to Iowa. Oregon?

Fae Dougan

Teri, If you are a descendent of Dr David Creese, do you have any information on who his father was? He had sisters Susanna (Duss), Kate (Ward), brother Mitchell, the photographer of Burr Oak, Ka and Mankato. Was David's father one of Johannes sons? I am interested in this family. Also, I am descended from Henry Creese and am searching for his wife, Mary Magdalene (Haner ?)'s parents. There are many spellings of Haner and I have not found who her parents were. Any information on either of these would be helpful. I do have the funeral announcement of Dr David Creese in my family papers.

Fae Crees Dougan
They had a daughter Mary Ann who was baptised in Bristol.I do not know where he was born but believe he must have died not long after Mary Ann's baptism in 1835 because Eliza and Mary Ann went back to Bream where Eliza remarried some years later. He could have been a Bristol man or he might have gone to Bristol to work.
I am trying to find the information because he was my gt.gt. grandfather and I know absolutely nothing about his family.

As far as I've learned, John had sons Frederick, Guy and Charles. Both also had daughters.
