My grandmother was Eunice Crellin. My father was Alfred Philip Taylor. I was named for her but became "Bernice" instead of Eunice as she had told my father that "Eunice" was a "bad luck name." He was named for an uncle who died in a "British square" during the Zulu wars.

I bought in an AUCTION a family album of Edwin Crellin and Mary Crellin. I believe the pictures were taken in 1880s to 1920's. There are about 60 pictures in it. Are you related to them. I have been reading all your postings and feel like the missing link, as I am the G Granddaughter of Catherine Anne Crellin who 1st married William John McGregor in 1875 and 2nd marriage to my G Grandfather Robert Thomas Weatherhead 11 May 1887. My mother's father was Ambrose Crellin. He was born on the Isle of Man and brought to the USA as a child. They went to Potawanabe County in either Nebraska or Iowa where he grew to manhood. He came to Columbus area with his wife Hattie and 5 children. A son, Warren, was born here. I googled Ambrose Crellin and found lots.

Hi Jenny, I just read your post & I thought that I would let you know that I am Mathew Crellin's GG Granddaughter. He was born in 1855 in Patrick, Isle of Man. He was a brother to William Francis. I have received quite a lot of information from Nola Kulakowski. Mathew moved to NSW where he married & later died. My maiden name is also Crellin. There apparently had been quite a lot of strange goings on within this side of the family. It's really interesting to find out about our ancestors. Wouldn't it be great if we could all get together one day. I live on the Central Coast of NSW.

I am a great Great grandaughter of William Francis Crellin and Amelia Jane Rawlings also. My rreat Grandmother was Louisa Francis Crellin who married Alexander James Pepper. Their son Raymond Alexander Pepper married Edith Ada Londgen. They had a son Bruce Albert Pepper, who ismy father. I would love to be in contact with you to swap any info I have, and I would really like to pay you for copies of any photos you may have, as I am very short of old photos to add to my tree. My maiden name is Crellin. William Crellin & Catherine Moore were my Great Great Grandparents. Their son, Mathew, my Great Grandfather.Mathew married Adelaide Hope in Kempsey NSW in 1880. After Mathew's death, George Henry married his widow, Adelaide.Mathew's & Adelaide's son, Hector Ernest was my Grandfather.My father, Roy, was born in Toorak Vic.
It's very interesting reading about the Crellins as it's a very uncommon name.Not so on the Isle of Man though.

Well Jenny and Gail you were both right about there being more family to find to fill in the gaps so to speak. From what I have learnt from another gg Grandaughter of William there was in fact another three children.
Thomas Crellin b.1847 d.1848 Baptised 31.10.1847
Thomas Crellin b.1849 Died in infancy Baptised 10.08.1849
And
Catherine b.1851 who also died in infancy Baptised 08.16.1851
Now from what this lady tells me it was Catherine born in 1858 who survived to marry (the name escapes me) McGregor.
All the above events took place in Patrick, IOM.

Now as to William (b.1820) his siblings read like this
Ann b.1825 Baptised 13.11.1823 Married Thomas Fargher 09.04.1842 in Patrick
Jane b.1827 d.1830
John b.1834 Baptised 09.04.1834

Going backwards from William b.1820 we have
William Crellin b.1792 and Ann Lace b.1790
John Crellin b.1764 and Margaret Shimmin b.1765
John Crellin b.c1740 and Elinor Clucas b.c1740

Margaret Shimmin's parents are believed to be
Mary Kelly b.c1740 and Hugh Shimmin b.c1740

Tonight I have had a couple of lucky breaks that can only benefit us all. Through Genes Reunited I have had contact from a gg Grandaughter of William Francis (1845) and through the census listings of 1841 and 1851 on Ancestry it seems like I have found William's (1820) parents. When I get it all down in some semblance of order I will let you know just what I have discovered.

Myrtle (the only connection I have with this part of the family is a cousin named Heather and lives in the West, I think her maiden name could have been Hay or Haywood.
Ivy, Gladys, Olive, Raymond, Lorna & Jack.

Some years ago I was in touch with a Vin McKenna who was doing the Pepper side of things. He mentioned that Aunt Lorna and Uncle Jack, were the remaing closest remaining children of Louisa. I think his mother may have been Ivy This was in 1997.

Emily Florence m Fred Cooper and children Ida, Milly, Jane, Carrie and Jack.
I have had a hit with a connection to John James and Catherine Warden, and have replied but no answer as yet. don't know if you have contact with this person.

My maiden name was Crellin and there are very few of us. I have one brother and four sisters, but my brother has two sons to carry on the name. That is if they get married.

Some of this information may not be correct as I started in 1997 and haven't done any research until now,and the information I have gained is from the genalogical society.

Thanks very much Gail, your research has certainly made my search easier but since my original posting I have obtained the death certificate of my Great Grandmother, Myra Crellin and that has added a new problem to the mix. I really think it is simply an error but the certificate has her father's name being James. I think it may simply been confusion between her father's name and that of her spouse. Your research though has cleared up the confusion I had with when she immigrated as the marriage extract that I have for her marriage to William Laming (her first husband) listed the marriage as having happened in the Isle of Man and later registered in Victoria however that was clearly meant to be her place of birth.
I am wondering though Gail if you have ever been able to find any trace of her marriage to James Hodgson as I don't believe she ever divorced William Laming...She just seems to have re-invented herself after the deaths of her first three children and moved on to living with James Hodgson which is more than understandable but all the birth certificates to the children she had with James have Laming as the surname, not Hodgson. She must have decided that that was more respectable I suppose. My Nana was Beatrice, Myra's second youngest child and if anyone would like a photo of either her and/or her and her children (including my Mum) I am more than happy to share and that goes for the death cert as well.

I can't locate any births between 1845 (William) and 1851 (Catharine). I will have another look and let you know what I find.

I would love to see the photo of Louisa and Alexander Pepper in 1925. I have only one, at their 50th wedding anniversary. Our family still lives near Eltham. My children work part time and play Basketball in Eltham. My eldest son is coaching a little boy with the surname Crellin, so I have asked Ben to speak with the father and see if there is any connection. It is not a common name, and living in Eltham. I do have other info as well. Are you from the Haye family in WA?

In regard to Myra Margaret Crellin, I have not got any information as to what siblings William Francis Crellin may have had. All I know is they lived in Eltham,Vic. and it would be nice to know if there are more family out there. If Myra is a sister there are 14 years age difference so is a lot more family to find.

From the small amount of information I have Louisa is the second daughter of William Francis Crellin and Amelia Jane Rawlings.
I have a photo of Louisa and Alexander taken about 1925 and have contact with a cousin from this line Heather whose mother was Myrtle, second daughter of LF and AJ Pepper.
My g/father was Charles Henry Crellin and the last of 6 children to WF and AJ Crellin.
If I am right Raymond is one of 9 children to Louisa and Alexander.
I live in W.A in a small country town.
Hope this is of some help and we may continue to fill in the many gaps.
From the small amount of research I have done there were only to sons to WF and AJ Crellin, one my G/father and William Moore killed in action in France.

William Crellin and Catherine Moore are my g-g-grandparents.Their son, John James, is my great-granfather. John James married Catherine Warden. Catherine was born in Williamstown in 1854 and married John James in Williamstown in 1872.

It would seem that My great Grandmother would be your great grandfather's sister. She was Myra Margaret Crellin b. 1858 in The Isle of Manhowever and migrated to Australia settling in Williamstown, Victoria after having married William Laming while still in the Isle of Man. I don't have a lot of information on her ancesters but am more than happy to share information about her children etc.

I have recently done some family history and come up with Crellin research and can remember my late father saying his family came from the Isle of Man, but I'm not 100% sure. My great grandfather was William Francis Crellin B 27-9-1844 and married Amelia Jane Rawlings. They lived in Victoria, Australia.

John Henry Crellin b.1848 married Grace Warren Lewis b.1858, was living in Wallasey, Cheshire until 1912 when he emigrated with his family to Chicago, USA. I am his g.g.niece. Daughter of Connie.
I have come across all the names of John Henry's family listed on Ancestry. The tree includes the next three generations down, which includes my parents, myself and my siblings.
