Dear Peter
I am also researching the Crespin family. Ernest Bellow Crespin was the brother of my great grandfather, Frank Froude Gervis Crespin. Their father was Gidoin Crespin, born in 1825 and married to Anne Jane Snook. Gidoin's father was George Henry Legassick Crespin, born in 1782.
Cheers, Neil

Re: Ernest Bellew Crespin

Dear Peter
I and a fellow researcher (Richard Grylls) have been looking at bits and pieces of the Crespin family for a number of years, working downwards rather than upwards, starting with a link in our families to a Captain Abraham Crespin in the late 18th century.
I believe that G G Crespin is Gidoin Crespin, who was Henry Crespin's brother.
Gidoin Crespin was baptised at Wolborough Church near Newton Abbot on 13th May 1825 and married Ann Jane Snook in Bristol in 1859. We know very little about Gidoin Crespin as we cannot find much record in the census returns. We suspected that he may have been in the army or navy, but emigration would be an explanation also.
Richard has written an interesting short paper on the Crespins, as it appears that Gidoin and Henry's father was a bigamist and somehow successfully ran two large families. It was perhaps a great help that he spent a large amount of time at sea as a naval surgeon.
I attach Richard's paper. Please treat this with discretion, as I believe that Richard intends to publish it in a genealogy journal in order to illustrate the problems of tracing bigamists.
Hope this is interesting, rather than too much of a shock!!
Regards
Guy Roberts

Yes, my name's Jimmy Crespin, though it's mother's maiden name. We currently reside in South Dakota but we have family in Los Angeles, Miami and New York. But everyone traces back to Quezaltepeque, La Libertad, El Salvador. My grandmother still lives there. I'd be nice to be able to reach you and see if we have ties. I've always wanted to see to where I could trace my roots.

Ernest Bellew Crespin

Ernest Bellew Crespin was born in Newport, South Wales, in about 1861, and emigrated to New Zealand. He ran a high-class furniture store in Wellington. In 1922 he married Florence Hollamby (1884-1968) who was born in Lawrence, in the South Island. One of their daughters, Florence Joan Crespin (born 29th August 1923, in Christchurch, Canterbury) married 14th March 1959 a late relative of mine, Phil Mervyn Spencer.

Now Ernest Crespin's father was G. G. Crespin, who lived in the Manor House, Modbury, Devon. I only have his initials and haven't been able to find out his full name--the article that talked about Ernest's furniture business only mention that hje was the son of G. G. Crespin, which was rather unhelpful...I'm assuming that G.G. born around the 1830's, and was attached to the family of Henry Leggasicke Crespin. Any more concrete information on his name, date or place of birth, or ancestry would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Peter Spencer
gumball75@gmail.com

Hi Lucinda - this is most exciting, especially to learn that you too have ties to a benito crespin who hailed from New Mexico and had apache blood. The real key is my grandmother who I am having problems finding anything about. She was Dolores Marie Baca, and it seems the Baca and Crespin names are interrelated.

Nice to hear from you - keep me posted and if I learn anything I'll let you know.
Hi, my name is Anjie and im trying to understand a little bit about your Family search on Felix Crespin. In you bulletin board you said:

"My Great grandfather was FELIX CRESPIN, he was married to Merced Maestas, both have passed my beloved grandfather most recently in 1988. His parents were Juan Marta Mares Crespin (later Marquez). Felix had a brother Antonio and a sister Isabel who was married to Marcos Maestas. IF any one has any information on this family please email me at Cshel7@hotmail.com MOST of my GGrandfathers children live in California. Thank you, Conchita"

You say that your Great granfather was Feliz Crespin but then you say that your grandfather passed away in 1988. im a little lost on this point because then you say that his parents were Juan M.M. Crespin. Can you tell me a little more on this.

I ran across your bulletin board as i was checking out my family history too. Thou i dont think we are related, i do think that MAYBE you might be related to my husbands family. I remembered once my inlaws telling me that they had Crespin in there family tree also. If not by the Crespin name then maybe by the Maestas name. You see his mothers madien name is Maestas. I asked one of the cousins here about some information that might help. After I read her the bulletin board about your family to see if it makes any sense to her. Well guess what... here is what i found out. Little bits and pieces of the puzzle. I hope that it helps in some way...

Hubs' (my hunny) grandfather was Jose Adam (or maybe Adan) Maestas (I didnt hear to well). Jose's parents were Isabella and Marcos Maestas. Jose had lots of brothers and sisters. Here are some of the names... not sure if these were all of them.
Amelia > passed
Arturo (Turo) > passed
Juan > passed
Frank > passed... one year after Jose.
Marcos > passed in 1988... He was heavy set so im told.
Alfredo > alive... in Manteca California. Originally from NM.
Tony > alive... lives somewhere in CA up north. (I can find out more later.)
Rita > alive
Maria > alive

I was also told that, there are some Crespin family that lives in Hemit CA. The rest in NM. I can find out more on this too. You see i called a cousin at 10.30 at night and everyone was asleep and so i could only pick her cousins brain...LOL

She also told me that Grandfather Jose had 15 kids. Also that Tio Mrcos had 15 kids. WOW can you believe it... heck i had enough with 2!!!!!

That is all i got for tonight... I hope this reaches you in good health and I hope that i hear from you soon. What a small world!!!

Anjie from CA

Crespin/Crispin in NM- Tomasita Crispin (Crespin) m. Samuel B. Watrous

I do not know but I have been reading the notes on the Crespin Family. I have found my g-g grandmother's name spelled Crespin and also Crispin, her whole name according to the records I have was Tomasita Crispin (Crespin) she was the 2nd wife of Samuel B. Watrous and the step-mother of Joseph B. Watrous from Watrous, NM. Samuel and Tomasita moved into the Mora valley in approx. 1846 and started a business in La Junta de los Rios which was later changed to Watrous, NM could Tomasita be related to you? At this time I have no information on her family other than her father was a wealthy miner. Samuel and Tomasita had 6 children, 1 boy and 5 girls but they all had the last name of Watrous. The mines that her father was involved with were in the Taos area. I hope this maybe a starting point in possibly locating the information that you are needing. Good Luck
