My Great Grandfather James Henderson Crichton was a most unpleasant man by all accounts !
However I am still keen to find out more but am struggling.
He was the son of Agnes Henderson and I believe George Crichton. However I can't seem to find out any more than that.
He married Helen Reid and moved to Ireland where the had 5 children before moving back to Scotland.
Not sure what happened from there but he had 4 children with my great grandmother Mary Robertson (nee Love). Family rumour is they never married. My grandma was Helen Crichton born in 1915.
Anything anyone can add would be really appreciated.
Jeanette
"William Crichton was originally from Glasgow, Scotland. As a young lad he enjoyed watching trains enter and exit the Glasgow railway station. On one particular day, William asked his mother if he and his sister might go to the railway station and watch the trains. The mother warned William to be careful, stay back from the tracks, and to take good care of his sister. Unfortunately, the warning was not fully heeded and the sister slipped from the station platform onto the tracks and was run over by a train.Appalled and frightened, William could not return home to tell his parents of the mishap. Instead, he fled from Glasgow, made his way to a seaport and signed on as a cabin boy on a merchant ship. His parents lost two children that day and would never know what happened to William.

William grew to an adult and in later years was in the Pacific aboard a ship that engaged in the transportation of natives from the New Hebrides to serve as laborers on plantations on various islands of the seas. Two of these islands were Upolu and Savai'i. Eventually, William opted to retire from the sea and settle in Western Samoa in the village of Sataua on the island of Savai'i.

He took Uputaua Fuiono Falemalu to wife and they had 4 sons and 2 daughters: William Lesa, John Tuiloma, Robert Lope, Alexander Sane, Janet, and Margaret. He had long red hair, a beard, and wore a ring in an earlobe. He became affluent and was one of the more prominent European landowners.

After the death of Uputaua he took to wife Pauline Mosese. Three sons were born and died young. Surviving was son number 4, Joseph William Crichton, and sister Katy Crichton.

According to a missionary record he was the first white man to be baptized in the LDS church in Samoa during his old age and was blind at his death. He was a contemporary of the renowned author Robert Louis Stevenson of Edinburgh, Scotland who settled in Vailima, Samoa in 1890."

I'm trying to find more information about my great, great grandfather named Joseph Crichton, whose parents were William and Pauline Crichton. He married Vai Ah Mu (second wife I believe). One of their children named Katherine had married Dr. Fatupaito. She is my grandmother, and her twin sister is Eveline Crichton. Please contact me on my email address: glennfatupaito@hotmail.com, or 0212217735.
Thomas CRICHTON / Isobel FORRESTER

I am looking for information regarding the parentage of Thomas Crichton (Crightoun) and/or Isobel Forrester.
According to Midlothian Parish Records, they were married in Milhill, Scotland on 30 Aug 1741. She is noted as being the daughter the late James Forrester of Milhill.

I have been trying for a number of years to find out the parentage of my ggg-grandmother, Helen Crichton Haines (born in 1818) of Sanquar, Scotland, who married Charles Thomas Haines (b. 1819) of Mallow, Cork, Ireland. I have a strong hunch that Thomas and Isobel Crichton may have been her grandparents (Charles and Helen named their first-born twins Thomas and Isabella). Any information would be so greatly appreciated! Thank you! Becky Holaway

I am trying to find descendants of my maternal grandmother Doris Ethel Laura Crichton (married name Bradley). Her parents worked for a traveling theatre company in ireland from around 1900 to 1930. They were born in England. I am unsure exactly when they moved to Ireland, but it was around 1900. My Granny was born in Dungannon, Northern Ireland (probably when the company was passing through) in 1906. Her father Wilfred Crichton was born around 1866 (died 1938). Her mother was Emily Lloyd, born in England 1870. Mt Granny was fostered so new little of her parents heritage. i only have fragments.

Thanks for keeping me posted. I was not surprised about Christian as James Crichton was the son of John Crighton and Christian Greig. I've had no luck going back any further than that.
The other surnames you mentioned do not coincide with any of mine. Thanks for looking at the Findlay. The only Barbara Findlay I have married my GG Grandfather George Crichton...and the dates are off.
I supposed their marriage (James & Eliz) was listed initially as 1835 as Mary was born in 1836!!! If you have a chance to send me the info from Scotlands people, I would appreciate it. My regular e-mail is: hmildon1@sympatico.ca.
Wonderful!!! We definitely have a connection. The only differences are that I have James and Elizabeth being married on the June 9th date in 1835 and the other is that rather than Christina, I have the name Christian. Otherwise, the info is the same. Visited Benwells when I was in Scotland a couple of years ago. Original homestead is still standing. Farm is operational. Would love to hear more!!! My GG Grandfather was George, the son of James and Elizabeth. He had a son James, my grandfather who emigrated to Canada in early 1900's and my father Leslie was born here (in Canada) in 1913.
