Does anyone know the mother and/or father of Nancy Mealor Crider? She was married to William H. Ray. I have heard that her mothers name might have been Polly, but that doesn't give me any leads.

I am trying to determine if Lavina Crider might be a sister to either Mary Canan/Cannon or Mary's husband Samuel Butler. Nov 25 1867 Lavina signed an avidavit stating that she was personally acquainted with Samuel Butler who died in the civil war. She also states that she was present at the house where the marriage of Samuel and Mary was performed by magistrat David Coleman in the town of Waterstreet, Huntingdon Co. Pa. They were married 27 Jan. 1830. Lavina states that all other person present at the wedding are know departed this life. Does anyone have any information on this person that might help me fill in the blanks of my family Butler/Canan tree. This information was found in the pension papers of Mary Butler. Thanks.

Hi ,
George W. Crider and Mary Mark Farley was my ggrand parents .
There's several people online using Mathew Carter and Caterine Boren as Georges Crider's parents . One of the private profiles said George may have been a white slaver at one time . You know 2/3 of our descendents were probably indentured servants when first coming to USA . They had no money and that was only way some could get here . I checked the Census Records out for Mathew Carter and his dad Jessee Hardy Carter had a son George Carter borned in 1885 . I thought this maybe out Georges dad and they changed the spelling of the name when moving to Ky. . The 1830 ,1840 Census records George Crider in Ky had a son to match our Georges age . Wild guessing here .
If we could find marriage records for George Crider and Elizabeth Ann Baily then maybe we can find out something more ? The only ones I found who came close was in West Va. Please let me know if you find anything more on this family and I will you if you will give me your email ?? Mine is Hope53@msn.com

jacob crider died 1809 was not from Pennsylvania or a Mennonite.... We are researching new theories that seem to have a higher probability and just looking for further proof.I am currently on the search for a bible that was sold to James Crider at the estate sale of Daniel Crider ( son of Jacob died 1809) the estate sale papers make mention of the bible and next to it is the word "Gritter" Many of us believe that this was the original family name right now we are looking at Grieder from Runnenberg Switzerland. I am also searching and combing any and all leads in North Carolina and other leads. We believe but not yet proved that jacob Crider died 1809 was the nephew of martin Pfiefer of Cold Water Creek Plantation, if anyone out there has any information that would link Jacob Crider died 1809 to martin Pfifer/Pfiefer as being his nephew, we believe that Joggi Grieder married Barbara Pfeifer sister of martin and hence there son was Jacob it is also believed that jacob died 1809 had a sister and we are not sure of any other siblings, but not one single tree that i can find has laid claim to barbara pfifer ( sister of martin) Jacob crider died 1809 lived on martins plantation and was a witness in many pfifer docs..... we are looking for any hard core researchers that have the time or anyone who might have a link , please email me at gemini61975@hotmail.com thank you angie....

I am searching the Georgia/<--N.Carolina/<--Pennsylvania Criders. I am searching the 1st Wife of James Thomas Crider (born about 1870), who is the biological mother of William Yancey Crider (I do believe she died giving birth).
Also have a Sarah J. Caster who married a Jacob Crider-I cannot find any relatives for her besides her children.
I have found that a Jacob Crider Sr. first came to Pennsylvania from Switzerland, so this is the line I am following.

I am also researching the family/ancestors of Vienna (Lavina) Harkins born in N.Carolina. She married Peyton Lancaster and lived in Georgia. Her census records state that her parents are from Virginia, so I guess I'm really looking for Harkins from VA. I am stuck-please help!!!
Peyton and Vienna had a son Newton who was married to a Mary Ann Harper; I cannot find records for her either.

Also searching South Carolina Lancasters(family of Peyton)

Any info you have would be greatly appreciated. I have bits and pieces missing throughout my tree and am really excited to fill in the blanks and find out where I come from.

I am also willing to share what information I do have.
Please email me at genealogylover@live.com.
I have a photograph of a Carter Crider that in the 1920's rode with a circus company known as Morris & Castle Circus as part of their Wild West Show. My grandfather was part of that show as well. It toured as far west as Iowa/Mn states and east as far as Mich / Ohio and as far south as Kentucky. My grandfather kept this photo as part of many. And on the back he states that the boy's name is Carter Crider. I don't know if this is anyone's relative in this thread. But thought I'd upload it anyway...

The book is available on CD from Linda Sluiter, the secretary of the House of Crider. The cost is $25 (plus $5 shipping), and the proceeds go to primarily to maintain family cemeteries, but also to promote family reunions, and engage in further research. Linda's email is lsluiter@directv.net

Michaelle;
A post here will benefit more people than a private phone call. I am interested that you believe Daniel Crider,Sr's grandfather is buried in North Carolina. My research indicates that Daniel's father, Jacob Crider/Grider emigrated from Switzerland and I have not found any evidence that Jacob's father emigrated to the US. I also have not found any concrete indication of the parentage of Daniel's mother. Do you have some information on either of these?

My father, Charles Montgomery Crider JR., was born in Denver in 1915. His father abandoned the family after another son, Raymond, was born and never seen or heard from again. Sounds familiar. I saw a document that the VA had that caused them to question my father about his real age. It was a divorce decree for a Charles and Ruby Crider and there was a minor child named Walter. They had his fathers' divorce papers from back then. The first Charles Crider was in the Army Air Corp stationed at Lowery Air Base in Denver when he married my Grandmother.

This is what I have figured out so far ... my grandfather (William E. 1898-1963)and great-grandfather (Isaac Van 1871-1949) were born and died in Illinois. Van's father John H. was born in 1842 in Caldwell, Ky and died in 1911 in Illinois. John H's father Abraham was born in 1820 in Ky. His father John was born around 1793 in Pittsylvania, Va. and died @ 1854 in Crittenden, Ky. It's this last one I am having the worst time with. I have three women who may have been his wife - Elizabeth Son, Rebecca Holeman and Elizabeth Holeman - were all married to a John Crider in Ky.

If your William E. Crider is from Illinois, I might be able to help you, as I research the CRIDER family. The CRIDER line came from Kentucky, and prior to that Virginia, prior to that Pennsylvania, then Germany. Your line listed seems correct. I can help you back up the CRIDER line further. I do not recall an old post, but will look for one. I don't have a lot of information for your William E. Crider, but I have found a record for William E. Crider in his burial notes. See below.

There is a William E. Crider buried in Cobden Cemetery, Union Co IL. See findagrave.com. 1898-1963. Wife Nora C. there.

Note: I do not have the surname of Nora C.

My connection: My mother-in-law who lives in southern Illinois is a Crider, and is a descendant of William Thomas Crider, a brother to your John H. Crider, both sons of Abraham.

Janis Hendrick
North Carolina
I'm looking for the parents of James Sanford Cryder born 20 Oct 1878 (WW1 draft card) in GA and died 15 February 1956 in GA. His death certificate left the boxes for the names of parents blank. He married Alice Elzene Ashworth on 13 Aug 1905. His obituary in the Elberton newspaper listed a brother, Jess Crider, of Houston, Texas. He lived most of his life in Oglethorpe county, Georgia although part of his childhood was spent in Alabama. The most likely candidates for his parents are Joseph M. Crider and Mary F. Bruce (census 1900) since the household lists a Sanford Crider born in Oct 1881 and a Jesse Crider born in 1896. I've been unable to definitively link the generations so far.

I believe I am also a descendant of Joseph "Big Joe" Crider. If the information in the 'Descendants of Daniel Crider Sr.' is correct, my line is as follows:

Lynne Dumas (1967- )
Edith Elliott (1948 - )
Edith Josephine Crider (8 May 1921 - 11 Oct 1994)
Samuel Crider (abt 1858 - aft 1930)
John William Crider (abt 1831 - 1895)
Joseph "Big Joe" Crider

The information on Samuel's 2nd marriage is incorrect. His 2nd wife was Florence Beatrice WATSON (23 Oct 1883 - 2 Mar 1973). The book lists her last name as Lawson. To their union, 4 girls were born: Nina Crider (9 Sep 1909 - 22 Nov 1974) married Arthur P. Carmickle, they had 2 sons; Myrtle Crider (9 Jun 1914 - 9 Dec 1987) married Floyd Wooley 4 Apr 1933. I don't remember a Floyd but do remember a Robert Wooley as being her husband. She had 3 sons; Olive Crider(2 Mar 1917 - still living) married Owen Rutledge 12 Oct 1935. They had 5 children; Edith Josphine first married Elma Gaye 27 Jul 1935. They had 3 children, their first and only son died as an infant. Elma died after being kick in the stomach by a mule just months before their last child was born. She next married Harvey Smith, this lasted for 1 year. Next she married my grandfather Ernest Raymond Elliott. They had 2 children, the youngest and only son died as an infant.

Do you know how I could get a copy of the 'Descendants of Daniel Crider Sr.'? Or who to contact to get corrections made?

Crider/Crowder of Bryant District, Lavonia County, Georgia

I am trying to locate my great grandfather's parents and ancestors and I know that his name was Henry Grady Crider and he was born July 15,1891 in Hartwell, Hart County, Georgia and died December 12, 1958 in Calhoun Falls, Abbeville County, South Carolina and that he married Nettie Adams and I know that by 1920 he and Nettie was in Bryant District, Lavonia County, Georgia along with some of his children. Someone told me that he his parents were Jack Crider and Nancy Smith, but I haven't been able to find outany information on Jack or Nancy. If anyone happens know of the Crider's (Crowder's) that were from Hartwell, Hart County, Georgia. I would really like to exchange information with you?

Thanks In Advance,
K. Chris Vickery
