Rootsweb has Charles Crispin b. 12 Mar 1899 and died May 1977 in MO.

Do you know which dates are correct? Thanks alot.

Don't know if we are related, but my dad and grandfather both have Dewey as a middle name. my dad Charles Dewey Crispin Jr 6 Aug 1924,Mo. His dad Charles Dewey Crispin,17 Mar 1899,Mo. M: Grace Mae Deltenre. His father John Clemons,1848,Ia. M:Mary Viola Newman. And his George,1798,Pa. M: Lydia Clemons. From there I am lost, except I know George is not the son of Silas in book because that one never lived in Ia or Mo, and I was told they came from Ireland and were cousins to William Penn. at one point a cencus had name spelt Crispen.Don't know where the Dewey fits in either.
Linda (Crispin) Senear

Interesting theory about Joscelin/Crispin connection

I've been researching the Joslin surname for over 20 years and think I may have finally found something to help us clear up the identity of our first ancestor.

I think I've found a theory that we may be able to prove using DNA research.

Actual records of the first Joslin seem to be found in the UK using the Domesday Book. Family traditions tell us he came to England in 1066 with William, but beyond that we assume he was from the village of Josselin in Brittany.

My theory after doing extensive research and using the documents found in the Companions of the Conqueror and the Falaise Roll, is that the very first Joslin was Joscelin Crispin of Tillieres France.

I long ago had an old document that linked our first ancestor to the Abbaye du Bec and some that even supposed he was the same person that founded the Abbaye.

The Abbaye was founded by Herluin Crispin and in the Falaise Roll he is documented as having brothers, William, Robert, Gilbert, Milo and Joscelin. Herluin stays at the Abbaye, Milo and the others show up in the Domesday Book. All except Joscelin are accounted for. BUT there is an entry for Joscelin of Brittany. My theory is that Joscelin of Brittany (our first recorded Joslin) is one and the same as Joscelin Crispin.

The names, dates and history make perfect sense as do the parallel naratives of the Priests that would follow Herluin. Herluin's Gilbert Crispin brother succeeds him at Bec and becomes an Abbott of Westminster. St. Gilbert of Sempringham is the son of Joscelin of Brittany, making him the nephew of the other Gilbert.

If this information is correct, it puts the Josselin ancestral home at Tillieres and not the village of Josselin. Although the name is the same, there is no proof whatsoever to tie the surname with the village in Morbihan.

I'd be very curious to see if we could find a company that would help us in this search. We'd need several males from both the Joslin and the Crispin families to see if there is one common male ancestor according to Paternal DNA.

Not sure if your questions have been answered but this info may help.

February 2010 there was a special called Faces on PBS that traced the genealogy of notable people. One of them was actress Meryl Streep.

Her 8th Great Grandparents were William Crispin and Rebecca Penn Bradshaw Crispin, who were the parents of Silas Crispin. Documents were shown and the info was gathered by Henry Louis Gates. The program will repeat again for the rest of this month. If you haven't seen it maybe you can catch an episode.

Andie Parrish

Bridgeton, NJ Crispin/Davis/Laning connection?

Crispin was the middle name of my grandfather and his father, both Paul Crispin Laning, of Bridgeton, NJ. The mother of Paul Crispin Laning, Sr. was Mary Matilda Davis. I ran across the 1900 census including another of her sons, George Laning, and noticed the name Harry Crispin directly above it, as the nephew of a Davis, head of household. The three names in consecutive order caught my eye as a possible connection and explanation for the name within the Laning family. Looking for confirmation or advice on further researching this possibility.

Crispins from Austria, immigrated around 1894 to Chicago area?

Adolph and Anna K. Crispin immigrated from Brunn, Austria. They were born around 1873/1874 (Anna in Germany). I found a family tree online that showed Anna's last name as Kondela but I have no documentation of that.

They had 7 children (dates other than Charles were from census docs)
Adolph
Charles Peter (Karl) b. ca 1893 Austria
Elizabeth 1895 IL
Jessie 1899 IL
Mamie 1901 IL
Harry 1903 IL
Fred 1905 IL

Harry married Cecile Drummond and I believe Fred married Marie?

Anna died in 1908 and is buried in Chicago, IL. Adolph died in 1948 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The only one of the children that I know anything about is Charles and I don't know a lot about him. I do know that he married Vivian Gibson in Hendricks County, IN and had a son named Charles Eugene Crispin (my grandfather). Does anyone have any further info on any of these people or recognize any names at all??

If you have any further info on this family, please email me at jamie.neal@gmail.com

Thanks
Jamie

Hello my name is Jose F Crispin and I'm trying to figure out how the last name Crispin ended up in Mexico. If anyone has any type of information please e-mail me or just post a comment. My great grandfathers name was Calistro or Calixtro Crispin and was married to Sofia Crispin. I know that Crispin originates from England and France. Maybe it was when the french were in Mexico.

I recently read your post on rootsweb, concerning your ethnicity, and I am wondering, is your grandmother possibly from Pennsylvania? Because, I think your grandmother may be my mother's aunt Ida? My mother's grandfather, from Gibsonburg, Ohio by way of Franklin, Pa, is Charles Samuel Crispen, who I think had a brother Glenn, hmmm hence your father's name maybe? Is your grandmother's father, Emanuel?
Interested in hearing for you,
Michelle Payne
M102665@aol.com

I am looking for information on my great grandfather Albert Edward Crispin, and his brother George. I am fairly certain they would have been orphans sent over from England to Canada. Albert was born in Bristol. England in 1890 according to his military records, and died in Canada in 1943. I have found a record for George as a "Home Child", but cannot find one for Albert.
Albert eventually married Edith Hill and had four children in Canada including my grandfather Andrew Albert Crispin (1927-1982).
I'm looking to go farther back in the Crispin family history, if anyone thinks they can connect these two with their trees please let me know.

Gordon, hello ! This is terrific news I have just found your message. I haven't used Ancestry.Com before, only GenForum. I have posted & looked for messages for the Simpson / Crispin family for ages. I am a descendant of your family also. My 3Xgreat-grandfather was William Crispin SIMPSON (1806-1873), the 2nd son of Commander John SIMPSON RN (1777-1863). I've found enough info in your EMail to know that it is the same family, eg Susannah SIMPSON & George WRIGHT & John Fraser (or sometimes Frasier) SIMPSON. One conflicting piece of info is that I have info from Navy Biographies that John SIMPSON married Susannah CRISPIN, the daughter of a Navy carpenter in 1804 at Northwood, Isle of Wight. I didn't know about Sarah CRISPIN or Robert CRISPIN or Constance SIMPSON. Then again I'd only ever found two daughters of John SIMPSON, Susannah & Jane. I do have quite a deal of info, register extracts, Navy records etc that I would be only too willing to share with you. Could you send me a brief family tree outlining your descent from John Fraser SIMPSON & his wife Matilda SMITH & further back if possible. I will do the same in my reply EMail. If you have a posting address I'd be only too happy to send you copies of info I have. This is great news, I've been trying to search for the CRISPINs for ages. I hope to hear from you soon,

All the best,

Sean O'Reilly

My mother, Susan, remembers visiting Letha (went by Maud). My great grandparents were Arbra and Anna Crispin. They had one daughter, Theresa born in 1914. He died when she was a freshman at college. Her mother died when she was 3 or 5. After that she lived with her aunt, Theresa Grossman. Letha Maud and Delmar lived across the street in Butler, MO. I would love to share information... terri.wojtalewicz@us.army.mil

Melissa, I am new to this and found your post here. I am looking for information on Anna Grossman. She is my great grandmother. She married Abra Crispin. They had one daughter, Theresa, born in 1914. Anna died when Theresa was 5 and Theresa (TC) lived with her aunt Theresa Grossman after that. It would be wonderful if I really did find some information! Terri (terri.wojtalewicz@us.army.mil).

Crispin from Clonakilty, Ireland

I'm looking for the forebears of the following Crispin family.

George, born c1778, a weaver
Ellen, born c1784
Charles, born c1816
George, born c1822
Elizabeth, born c1827
Ellen, born c1828

I know that Charles was born in Clonakilty (stated on 1861 England census) and the entire family was born in Ireland (stated on England censuses from 1841 onwards). Family legend (how reliable is that??) claims that the entire family were born and bred in Clonakilty

The family moved from Clonakilty to Southwark, Surrey sometime in the 1830s. Does anyone know anything about their history prior to 1841?
