My gandmother was Mary Kate-Cronin, born in Ennis Ireland 1903, her father was Michael Cronin and her mother Kate Linane. From what I have found through other family tree's Michael Cronin had three wives and Kate was the third. This of course resulted in many half siblings who emigrated to the US and Canada in the 1800's. Has anyone else found this information? I just want to be sure I am seeing this correctly. My father is the youngest of 10 and was born on Trnpk Road, Ennis Co. Clare Ireland, his father was Thmoas Patrick O'Neill, Mary Kate's husband. Her brother was Martin Cronin. Mary Kate and Thomas moved to Whitney, Englad in the late 1960's where they lived till their deaths. Thank in advance for any information. Brian O'Neill. boneillart@yahoo.com

I looked at your tree and do not think we have the same family. There was also another Cronin family with similar names that immigrated to Ohio, is it possible that these are your relations? Can you give me a little information about Thomas and his family, Parents, etc. dates?
Mary

Hi.
Richard Jeremiah Cronin, if he is our connection, had a brother Thomas. Thomas was my great grandfather. So Richard Jeremiah Cronin was my great grand uncle. Hope that makes sense. Sadly my dad died nearly 9 years ago. He was the reason I got into this as he was orphaned at 13 so knew little of his roots.
Our family is growing! Fingers crossed we can tie up some loose ends.
Sue

Hi Mary.
It would be great to compare notes as I know so little about my Irish roots. The information I have about the four siblings was taken from a search I had done professionally about 11 years ago before we had all the information on line. One of the replies I had on here if you look, is from dodietracey1, we think we are distant cousins too.
Sue (Bob is a forum name, long story).

Hi Ron, it's been 12 years since you posted this query so you may no longer be at the same contact address - or have found out further information? I have spent the last 16 years (on and off)trying to trace back further on Thomas Cronin and Catherine Dunslane. I have copies of their immigration to Australia steerage passengers on "Eliza" from Ireland Left Dublin 9 July 1833 arrived Port Jackson 24 November 1833. There is also another passenger in the cabin list whose name appears to be Patrick Drislane. Catherine has father Denis Dunslane mother unknown on other documents. They had 10 children and I have details of some of their birth and death dates but for Samuel only a birth of "äbout 1836" and death "1886 in Newcastle". Copies of micro fiche entries and just about everything else relating to the family were sent to me by the Archivist at St Mary's Sydney after an inquiry I made about my grandmother Margaret O'Sullivan who married there. Her mother was Teresa Cronin daughter of Thomas Cronin. Cheers Marti

Obit of Cornelius Cronin 1909

From the Chatsworth Plaindealer
Chatsworth,Livingston,Illinois

CORNELIUS CRONIN
JULY 9, 1909

Tuesday (July 6) morning at 11:30 o'clock, Cornelius Cronin, one of the older residents of this vicinity, died at his late residence two miles north of Chatsworth. Death was due to general debility consequent to old age.
In the death of Mr. Cronin we again are brought to a realization that the sturdy pioneers of this great state of Illinois are fast disappearing, and while his loss will be keenly felt by his family and his friends, they will be greatly consoled with the knowledge that his death closed a long and honorable career.
Cornelius Cronin was a native of Ireland, being born in the county of Kerry, February 11, 1831. He emigrated to this country at an early age and, after living for a time in the eastern states, moved to Pekin, Illinois, where he resided for a number of years, following the trade of a blacksmith. By hard work and strict economy he accumulated sufficient money to purchase a farm north of Chatsworth and he immediately prepared to take up his residence there and begin his life work as a farmer. He moved here with his wife and family about thirty years ago and has always commanded the respect of everyone for his honesty and sobriety. He suffered the loss of his wife some years ago, from which he never fully recovered. A still greater shock to his old age was the death of his son, William, about a year ago after an illness of only a few days. The surviving children are Mary and John, who have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. Besides these members of the immediate family, Mrs. Cronin and four children are left to mourn the departed grandparent.
The funeral services were held on Thursday morning at ten o'clock at SS. Peter and Paul's church, of which deceased was a devout member.

She was born about 1887 in Carbondale, married Thomas F Toolan, died about 1950.
I believe she worked as a servant in New Jersey in the early 1900s.
Any info would be great.

Yes, we are like 1st cousins 3 times removed I think, but I was never very good at that "cousin" thing. Basically we had the same great-great grandparents. I have the marriage record for Nora and Jeremiah, it's on the same page, next line as Margaret and Charles Madden, in Sept 8, 1889 in Warren, MA. Do you know if margaret and Nora were both born in Ireland? Any idea where? Funny, my Dad told me he used to go visit family at a blueberry farm? I thought it was in MA, but do you think...? Anyway, I would LOVE a photo of ANY Maddens. I'm at a complete dead end in my research. Could they name their kids anything different, just to make my job easier? Noooo.. Margaret, Mary, Nora... Patrick and Mary? Patrick and Margaret... Might as well be John Smith! Anyway thanks for the help, I look forward to the photo. send it to hefyfe at cox dot net in normal email formatting. thanks, Heather

I found a pass to a boat for Jeremiah. It showed that he was traveling with his sister. But when I look at the year that Jeremiah and Nora came to the US, it is the same. I must not have had the right Jeremiah. Here is what my grandmother told me about her parents when I was a child. Her parents lived in New Hampshire. They had 8 children. They lived on a blueberry plantation. My grandmother didn't get married until almost 30. She took care of Jeremiah (he had a stroke). I don't know when Nora died. I have been searching for information on their marriage and their death and have not found anything yet. I can't believe you went to Ireland. I have always wanted to go. You're so lucky. I have an old picture of Nora that I inherited from My Aunt Mae. She was Jeremiah and Nora's youngest child. If I every get it scanned into my computer I will let you know it's on my tree. I would say that the picture was taken back in the late 1890's. She must have been in her late teens or early 20's. So if your Great Grandmother was my Great Grandmother's sister, we must be distant cousins. Glad to know you!

Susan, so good to hear from you. The Sullivan/Madden family is a huge brick wall for me. My Great grandmother was Margaret Sullivan, she married Charles Madden, actually on the same day, same place as Nora and Jeremiah (West Warren, MA) and would love any additional info you have on the family. How was I helpful? Glad I could help but I actually WENT to Ireland and couldn't find anything. Do you know when and where they immigrated and where from in Ireland? You can contact me directly at hefyfe at cox dot net. Thanks, Heather

I am so appreciative of you doing all of this research for me.
I am aware that the origin of Dunckley is not native to Ireland, but as far as I have found, my people were Catholic, as I have found baptismal records in the parish in Bruff. I would like to know any information that you may have about this family, but I am particularly interested to know whether their daughter Mary is still alive. She was born in Knightsmountain in 1928. I believe that she married a James Cronin in Knocknagoshel in 1956,although I am less sure about this. I am however certain of her birth date which was 2nd April 1928.

Pat

Hello Mary,
I was in the county library in Tralee last Wednesday (ahs wednesday). I saw the following items:
National Archives Census of Ireland 1911. You can look this up online at www.census.nationalarchives.ie
Look at census records for Sackville St in Dublin. You will see a lot of Dunckleys listed. As an example, one of them is Elizabeth Dunckley, Presbyterian, Dublin, Scholar from County Fermanagh.
You can also look up church records a the following web address: http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie
You can look up each County.
Also look up askabouireland.ie. Go to Library Homepage. Click into links. Look up Griffiths Valuation 1853. You will see that John Dunckley is mentioned in a side-street in Bruff, a small patch of ground, perhaps half an acre. They must be the same people as the Dunckleys in Dublin and Fermanagh.
Dunckley is not an Irish name. They must have come to Ireland with the Imperial forces and may have had to leave in a hurry, when the colonial forces had to leave Ireland...... Many people who supported them had to leave aswell........
Hope this is of use to you
Mattie Cronin

Yes, he is buried in Queens, with Mary Cronin their mother.
Per the headstone, John Dunckley was from Bruff, County Limerick, Ireland; and Mary was from Oysterbed, County Kerry. Kevin and I and my sisters and Mom are going to visit these locations in May.
Kevin and I are in contact regularly, so I cannot wait to see any pictures you might want to share. :)
If you want, please view my tree, as I have some pictures saved as well.

Hope to talk to you soon.
Mary
marywsanchez@live.com
I spoke to Kevin and we are going to share pictures when he gets back from his trip. I believe Catherine and Josephine's Dad died and is buried in Queens, NY but I am trying to verify that.

Hope all is well!

Your cousin,
-Brian Wilton
