According to these wonderful photos by a famous photographer he was a White House Employee. There are two photos on page 10 I know family members would love to have.

I was going through a photography collection of the Library of Congress and found a great picture that (may or may not be) a relative of yours.
I couldn't answer your post that was sent to my e-mail address (nancytex@wt.net), because it was to a very very old ancestry.com ID as I no longer have access to NancyStewart405.

The William Horace Crook I have was b. Dec 10, 1875, married Matilde "Tilde" Emyline Hale on Dec 26, 1897, Smithville, DeKalb Co., TN and died July 5, 1956. They had 13 kids. I don't have information about a previous marriage in my system.

Nancy Kay

My gggrandfather, William Horace Crook married at 14 (I found the marriage cert) to Tisha Crook but according to my grandmother Tisha's parents wouldn't allow them to live together. Also according to my grandmother Tisha got pregnant. I can't find a divorce cert and I can't find any other record of Tisha except the marriage cert. Does anyone know anything about Tisha or any advice on where I should look now?

It has been ten years since my first post on this website. I have since written a book about Crook's early years up through the end of the Civil War. It has quite a bit of information about his origins and early childhood, including material about his siblings and parents. The book is entitled "George Crook, From the Redwoods to Appomattox," and is published by U of Oklahoma Press. It may be purchased from the press or on Amazon and Barnes & Nobles. If you are interested I have documented info on their divorce, and a copy of his civil war papers, all of which, I believe, clears up which children were born from his first marriage, and which were born from his second to Sarah Jane Dilley Howell. I am more than willing to share my info with you, and hope you will do the same with the Crooks family. Cheryl

Hi Herb:

I recently stumbled across a note you had written on an Ancestry board in 2009 and am hoping this e-mail address is still good.

By way of explanation, I am a SLAUENWHITE, HUBLEY, WHITMAN and, lately, a MOSHER researcher. As I was working my way through the descendants of Sarah Salome MOSHER, I had come to the family of George Henry CROOK/CROOKS, and was working on George Henry II when I came to your note and had a couple of questions regarding same.

First, you state that George Henry II and Jean MORASH were married in Boston on 25 Jan 1918. However, the 1930 Census shows them as m. abt 1915, and they have a daughter named Geraldine who was b. Jul 1916. So, was that 1918 marriage date a fat-finger error or was Geraldine somewhat premature?

Also, you state that Jean MORASH was born in Dartmouth. However, the only Jean MORASH in the 1901 Census of NS, who happens to be exactly right age, appears to have been born in the town of Lunenburg, where her family has been living since at least 1891. So I guess the question is--what was your source for the Dartmouth POB?

-----Bob H-----

I am trying to trace my husband's Crook roots. His Grandfather was Benjamin Lee Crook (1930-2001) his parents were Thomas Hardy Crook (1890-1983) and Harriet Delilah Young (1891-1963). Thomas Hardy Crook's parents were William Marion Crook (1850-?) and Louisa Guest (1852-1924).

Grandpa Ben told my husband when he was younger that we were related to a famous General (assuming General George Crook) But I have not been able to trace anything past William Marion Crook. This is all info given to me by my husband's mother (Ben's daughter) and I believe it to be accurate.

I would like to reply with what information that I have been given. My husband, Robert Crook, Jr. was born in Blue Ridge, Georgia. He has since passed away but he was the son of Robert Crook, brother to General George Crook. His mother was Etta Mae Branch of the Eastern tribe of Cherokee. His father was also an Indian Agent for the Cherokee. According to my husband, he was born when his father was older, at the age of 53 or 54. His mother was also older and Robert was the only child that I am aware of to this union. He told me that his father was the brother to General George Crook, making my son, Roger Crook, the great nephew to General George Crook. My son was born when my husband was also at the age of 54 also. My husband passed away in 1982 before our son was born. Any information you can send us would be greatly appreciated.
Dear Linda,
Just a note to thank you for posting the Crook deeds. My ancestor, William A. Swiney, was Susan Melvina Swiney Crook's brother. Let me know if you need Swiney material. We're renovating, so most of the records are safely packed, but there are still bits and pieces fairly handy.
Cordially,
Barbara Collin

Hello,

I am doing research into the children of Arthur and Lula Crook.

Two of their sons (Walter P & Hubert L) were killed in World War II. There were also two daughters. I have one (Jessie M. Crook) as dying in January 1942 at the age of 20 (unknown cause). I can find no additional information on another daugher (W. Geneva Crook).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gene

My great great great grandfather's name was Michael Crook, born in 1797 in Maryland and married Catherine Slife, possibly in Fairfield, OH. Their daughter, Rachel, was born in Fairfield county Ohio in 1834. Is there any connection there with your Ephraim? I look forward to hearing from you

I have a painting that I inherited from my Aunt. On the paper covering the back of the painting is a date - 1901, and a name - George Washington Crook. I have been looking for info about the painting and came across your ancestry site. For years I thought the painting was a night scene of a small boat pulled up on shore. After I inherited it I discovered that it isn't a boat - it looks like the wrecked fusilage of an airplane! Quite odd. Do you have any ideas about the painting? I don't know where my aunt got it, but she lived in New York then Florida and then moved to Pennsylvania for the last few years of her life.

Thank you for your reply. If my Crook family line is related to George Crook, it would have to be connected about 1800 and from Ireland. We have done a lot of research on this line, beginning with a Patrick Crook, b.abt 1800 in Ireland. A possible alternative is John Crook, b.abt 1800 in Ireland.

Again, thank you for your post. If you find any connection, just post and I will see it eventually.

(Not sure myself) Here is the order for us...Grandfather Harry McLaughlin- his mother was Vivian L. Crook(b. 1898). Her parents are Edgar A. Crook and Frannie MacMyers.
Since this email is 11 years passed. I didn't know if you knew anything or would see this. Thanks.

I don't know if she could have divorced or been remarried.
