Georgiana is the widow of Richard W. Salsman. Dick was the son of William R. Salsman Jr. William R. Jr. is the s/o William R. & Maria Crosthwaite Salsman. William R. Salsman Jr. was married to Vestella Gould. Vestella and William had three children: Jessie Marie b. 16 June 1923, mar. Clyde Peach, d. 30 Nov. 1989 (had at least 3 children), Richard William (Dick) b. 27 August 1927, mar. Georgiana Schickling, d. 22 January 2000 (2 sons--1 living), Vestella Frances b. 7 November 1930, mar. William Penney (at least 6 children). Georgiana has been gathering papers and photos about the family for years. Her sight isn't very good anymore and she doesn't get around very good anymore either. She actually has letters from Dick's mother's side that date back to about 1813. They are facinating to read. I told her they belong in a museum or archives. Vestella Gould Salsman died 2 May 1932. Dick's father, William R. Jr. was the fire chief for the town of Saugus for many years. He married a 2nd time to Edith Frances Dixon "Franny". William R. Jr. died of a sudden heart attack 25 April 1942. Franny died 17 Sept. 1969.
They along with Alexander and Gladys Crosthwaite are buried in the Riverside cemetery (not far from GeGe's house). We have visited there at least yearly since Gladys died. Years ago Dick, GeGe, Gladys and her friend would come to CT to visit with my mother-in-law and we would get together to visit. Having 4 children kept us pretty close to home back then. Wait till I tell GeGe I've been in touch with Ethan Allen's family. She'll be so excited.
I think the only way to find a marriage record at this point is to take a trip to MA to the archives (which I can't do right now), or to see if the New England Historical Genealogical Society has copies of those marriage records. I have researched many times in MA at the Archives, NEHGS and the vital records offfice. There weren't that many records online when I started this.

Just to let you know, that we are connected to the Salsman family thru the Crosthwaite lines two ways. When Maria married William R. Salsman and when my husband's grandmother's sister married Peter Salsman (William R.s brother).
Does your mother know Georgiana Salsman? GeGe and I get together a few times a year to combine records that each of us have. Her sight isn't very good anymore, but she has a lot of papers and things that she had saved from the house.
I'll bet your Vestella was named for William R. Salsman jr.'s first wife and daughter.

Charlene Crosthwaite
The 1910 census states they were married less than one year. I had believed that they married in Boston. Only because they were actually living there at the time. I don't have the time to go to Mass right now to research, so have been using familysearch. Unfortunately, they have no marriages from Feb. thru April of 1910 for the city of Boston. When I asked them about it, they explained that marriages happened in other towns and are reported that way. Well then what happened to the marriages that occurred in the city of Boston itself. It's possible that Emma was carrying Ethan Jr. at the time of their marriage. Please don't be surprised, it happened more times than people think. I checked the marriage records for Saugus and Everett, but didn't find them. I thought that Ethan Sr. might have died in New Jersey. He was still listed as a typewriter salesman in the 1920 census in New Jersey. By the 1930 census Emma is already listed as being Frank Elton Giles' wife. Ethan either died between 1920-1930, or they divorced. Emma's marriage record should tell us whichever it was.
Actually the name Crosthwaite is English. There is actually a town in England that carries the Crosthwaite name in Keswick, England. The name stands for the cross in the field. When the family branched off, part stayed in England, part went to Scotland and part went to Ireland. Our lines so far are traced back to Queen's County Ireland. I have photo's of John Crosthwaite's headstone from the St. Peter's Anglican Cemetery in Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada. I also have one (poor) photo of Samuel Crosthwaite and we have at least one maybe two of Catherine Fawcett.
Your mother is right about the Salsman name. Some spellings are still done with the 'Z', some are not. If you look at the records for Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, you'll see that some have two "nn". These were written this way because many people didn't know how to write and those that kept records (church or state), spelled it the way it sounded.
Charlene

Thanks for that about Kildare. Any more details, dates, wife, parents, siblings perhaps? There was a very prosperous Crosthwaite family in at least Dublin and County Carlow but they all seem to disappear from Ireland by the mid 1800s, presumably to America. It is the Irish part that I need to find more about.
Bill

I believe Archibald Walker was Born 1882 in Boness which is a bit of bad luck for the 1881 Census, but his parents will be there perhaps. Who did he marry?

I guess you have tried the next Census to pick up the family and Archibald aged 9 ?

The marriage at 27 in 1909 of course missed the 1901 Census', but he should be in there possibly still in the family home aged 19.

I have checked my database, and Archibald is not an individual that I have made a link to (so far) but I have a family back in time quite a bit that had 12 children and I don't have all the families for them, so it is possible that if you can give me parents or grandparents that I could possibly make a link.
I am great great great grand-daughter of Philip Crosthwaite of Ireland who has much history in San Diego. My great-Aunt, (and grandmother who has past) is daughter of Rosario Crosthwaite, who was daughter of Charles and Rosario Crosthwaite. Charles Crosthwaite was son of Philipe and Josefa Crosthwaite. My great Aunt is turning 80 this next year and would love to help her find out more about our ancestry. Specifically she is looking for a book that was published from a series of articles written in the San Diego Union around 1850ish. These articles were written by Philip Croswaite and later published as a book. I believe they were a sort of diary, but not sure. If anyone can help me find information on this book and how I may be able to find a copy it would be the greatest gift I could ever present to my Aunt. she has so many historical stories about this part of our heritage and this would definately help close some gaps. Please help if you can with anything such as a name, publication date, etc,,

oops, goofed on that one. Correct information is: Edward, of course, is the father of Philip Crosthwaite. I have your line as Edward - Philip - Francisco - Felipe Eleuterio - Martina. Is that correct?

Mine is Edward - Philip - Carlos - Alex - Phyllis. Have lost many records in computer failure and haven't reconstructed them yet.
