I am very interested in the line that you come from as Noah's mother (Catherine McClish) is my GGGrandmother. I descend from her son David (my Great Grandfather). She married Samuel Croy and they had several children.. I am in the process of working on publishing a book on this family (McClish) and would like to get information regarding anything on the Croys as we have little info.

Thank you

My mother was born Bonnie Croy. Her mother was Mabel Maddox. She married Joshua Croy. Mabel died in 1939 and 2 of her children were adopted by the Morrison family. From my research, Joshua died around 1987. This all took place in Georgia I hope this helps.

hi helen -

i have not been able to find information regarding carrie either but i believe she died in infancy or as a young child. my main email address is luvmypurple@ymail.com that way we can keep in touch. my uncle gary hessee has done extensive research on the croy side of the family as my grammy great lora wanted to know the family history. unfortunately i have not been able to get access to that work but i have done a lot of work on my own on the croy family. i have not researched the walls family as much at this point. i would be more than happy to share any info i might have regarding the family. i would love to have a pic of lois to add to my collection of pics. i have several pics of my grammy and i need to work on getting them scanned and online with my tree. i hoping to do that soon because there r several people that want pics for other members of the family. look forward to keeping in touch with u. take care

shannon

I am not currently a subscriber of this site, so I guess I would need to do that in order to see your family tree. I am excited to have a contact for this side of my family, as my mother was an only child and she and her parents have all passed away. I have pictures of Lois and her parents, and even an picture of Lois and May together late in their lives. One burning question you may be able to help me with is finding more about their older sister Carrie... I have never been able to find info on her. I have been able to find out about their brothers, but not Carrie.

Please let me know the best way to share pictures and info with you. Are you doing research on either the Croy or Walls families going back further?
Thanks again -
Helen

I would love to know if you have further information about "Aunt May." I have a cross-stitch sampler of the 23rd Psalm that is attributed to her.

I started a new thread under James Croy. Please check it out and reply if you see it. I am not real familiar with Ancestrys method of posting. Sorry about that. I could use a little help with James. I do believe him to be another child of John or possibly a William Croy. There was a William Jr. that went to Alabama. There must be a William Sr.. Can you help me out?

James Croy Southern Croys

Donna
I believe there is another child in the John Croy family. My great-great-great grandmother married a James Croy in Lumpkin County in 1839. It shows up in the marriage records as James Cry but he is in the 1840 Forsyth County census as James Croy. He is living a couple of houses down from John Croy. James it appears had been married before and had children by his first wife. Mary Ann Hawkins had two children when they married. James is listed as being between 40 and 50 years old. He is no longer in Georgia Census after that. My 3rd great-grandmother moved to Cherokee County NC and brought her two children by previous marriage and five Croy children. My line is not through the Croys but through one of the other children. However I am very curious as to what happened to James. Did he die in 1849 or head for California in the Gold Rush as so many Georgians did. I think he may have died because Mary Ann had a 3 month old child in the 1850 census and she was remarried to a Wesley Franklin by the 1860 Census. Could you help me research this James. He would have been born between 1790 and 1800. Thanks, Keith

We recently found out that my mother's biological parents were Mabel Maddox Croy and Joshua Croy. Mabel died in Georgia aroung 1939 Joshua may have lived until 1982 in Athens Ga The had at least 6 children. The ones I know of are Effie Mae Croy, Jonathan and Bonnie. Jonathan and Bonnie were adopted by the Morrison Family after Mabel's death. Effie was a teenager at the time. I have been able to trace the family tree I hope you find this helpful

I will disseminate it among my 3 offspring so if they wish they will be able to follow their links back to the UK.
I detect a little bit of a cover up in the verdict on poor Thomas. I understand it was a lethal home brew whisky that killed him but the coroner went to pains to absolve the grazier and to blame Thomas for over indulgence. Regardless it must have been a tough time for his family.
Again, thank you for clearing up the gaps in my records.
Noel

Paul, thank you for your message, it adds to my information too. Sadly Thomas died from drinking bootleg whisky in 1855 leaving George my great grandfather to become main breadwinner for the family at age 14. Maitland Mercury reports on the following. http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/704061?searchTe...
The following links George to my parents who died recently.
•	1865 George Stuckings (note name changed) married Margaret Watson in Paterson. Margaret died 1876 after having 3 children.

•	Thomas Stuckings born 1871. 1897 married Maria Sellens born 1871. A brother Frederick born 1866, died 1868, another brother Henry born 1873.

•	George died 17 August 1903, buried St Mary’s on Allyn Church at Allynbrook. Headstone still clear. Wife Mary Ann, thought to be second wife, children’s birth mother shown as Margaret. Note no other name on headstone.

•	William Stuckings seventh or eighth of ten children born to Thomas on 18 April 1914. Married Linda Mary Jackson at Maitland 19 April 1941. Mary died 27 December 2009, William 10 September 2010.
From Thomas and Henry come the many hundreds of Stuckings now spread across Australia.
Could you advise me who were the parents of the emigrant Thomas?
Cheers, Noel

Hello Noel,
I am a decendent of Abraham Stewkins (Stukins) (my gt gt grandfather )who was the brother of your Thomas who arrived in Australia in 1855 with his second wife Ann (nee Ship) and their assorted children. Thomas was born in July 1818 in Longstanton Cambridgeshire England. I have been told that Thomas was killed in a carting accident shortly after arriving in Australia but so far I have found no record of this, although Ann did remarry fairly soon after which fits the situation. Would be interested to hear from you

Jacob Croy b. abt 1735 in Pa

In my wanderings came across the subject of the two wives of Jacob Croy. He originally married a lady named Amari who bore him 11 children. Then, I guess she died. in March 1811 he married Catherine Lowe in Giles County, VA. Apparently there was no issue from that marriage, or at least none have been listed. He died in March 1824 in Giles County, VA and mentions his beloved Catherine as his major heir. He also mentioned a couple of his children from the previous marriage. I have a copy of the will. I am told there was a marriage bond for Catherine signed in March 1811.Hope this helps someone.

There was a Mable Maddox Croy in Georgia 1904-1937.
She was married to Joshua J. Croy and had at least 7 children. In 1937 she had 4 children alive, one named Effie Mae, Johnathan, and Bonnie the other child's name is unknown. We think she died in 1939 and her children were then separated. I know that two were adopted by the Morrison family in DeKalb County Ga. If anyone has further information it would be appreciated

Lynne,
My Sybil Marie Croy must surely be Austin's sister.
A.)both born in Vermont
B.)Austin named a daughter after his mother & sister Sybil M.
C.)They are so close in age
My great great grandmother Sybil Marie Croy Munson's death cert. did say Jacob Croy from Germany was her father and Sybil Odell was her mother. I am putting him as her brother, Sybil is such an unusual name and with the initial M, and from the state of Vermont, what are the odds. Have you found any VERMONT Croy records so we can narrow the town down?

I was out of town most of last week, so I've been a little late getting back to you about this.

There are some other land purchases in Michigan. Jacob and his children came first to White Pigeon, St. Joseph co., Michigan about 1829.

Jacob purchased the E1/2SW of S32, T7, R11, and the N1/2NW S4, T8, R11. Dates for both are 12/1/1830.

Then there are the ones you mentioned, plus another one of Jacob Sr., SESW S18, T8, R8; one for his son Zebulon, NESW S18, T8, R8 (6/1/1848), then two for his son John Croy, NE1/2NW of S20, T8, R7 (9/10/1838), and the E1/2NW of S17, T8, R8 (6/1/1848).

This last piece of land was on Honey Lake, in Branch co., Michigan. this land appears to have been transferred somehow to John Stoner, as it is mentioned in the wills of both him, and his wife Rebecca (Croy) Stoner. Rebecca (Croy) Stoner was a younger sister of Jacob Croy Sr. It is my belief that Jacob Croy Sr. wife Sarah Stoner, was a sister to John Stoner.

I have not had a chance to check the deeds in Branch co., but I hope to sometime this summer.

As to the use of deeds in research, I have found them very useful when no will or probate records survive.

For instance, when the land holder dies, the last is often partitioned. This will give all the heirs, or the heirs of the heirs if that heir has died.
Thanks for the reply.
Is the land record you are refering to Sec 11 Twp 36N Range 13 E Steuben Co, In? That is registered to Jacob Croy Jr of LaGrange Co., IN.

There are two Land Records in Branch Co., Michigan
one to Jacob Croy Senior, and one to Jacobh Croy Junior.

Sec 17 TS5 R7W Merd Mi-Toledo Strip, Branch Co., Mi
for Junior. Senior is Sec 17 T8S R7W Merd Mi-Toledo Strip, Branch Co., Mi. However, the dats for both is 10 Oct 1833. Have you looked in Michigan? I do not understand the Land Records (except for the names). What else can you find with them?
