Cruce Book An Outline of Cruce's in America

the book is no longer available, but Prioscilla montgomery's son, terrell Gibbs uploaded int online and provided me with th elink. I am posting it her for anyone interested to use. keep in mind to look for the word download under the title. You can download the book, save it your computer as well as save it to CD discs so you will have it in case your computer ever crashes.

http://web.me.com/terrellgibbs/Outline_of_Cruces/

I hope everyone finds this book as imformative as I have.

Also remember the name of Cruce was spelled the way they thought it sounded years ago and therefore is found with various spellings on various documents. For example my great great grandfathers name was spelled 3 different way on US census reports, yet by comparison of information you know that they are indeed the same person.

Some pof the spellings are Cruce, Cruice, Cruse, Cruise, Crews, and Cruys.

Keep in mind not all families are covered as she was unable to make contact with some and therefore unable to include the inforamtion of their children, grandchildren etc.

John Cruce alias John Laneer was my husband's gg-grandfather. We have heard bits and pieces of his story on why he fled to OK then back into ARK and why he changed his name. Would love to hear from anyone who has more information on the Cruce Laneer family.

The Cruce's you have listed are not related to me. My great-grandfather was born in Mexico and arrived in New Orleans, LA in 1870 at the age of 13. There is a lot of information on the Cruce's you are looking for. There is a book of research that was done on the Cruce (Cruse) line you are researching.
Sorry I cannot help you.
Deborah Soiett

Hi,
I am descendant of the Isaac Newton Cruce and Mary Caldwell line, they are my 5th great grandfather and grandmother. My mother Pearl Cruce was born in Perry, Flordia, she passed away a long time ago or I would ask her directly. So Mahala Gaskins and Hannah Stone were rumored to be Indian...do you know how we could find this out? It is interesting that so often the Indians had English sounding names. I have read quite a lot about the intermingling of the Indians and white settlers back then. Lee Cruce, a governor of Oklahoma married into a famous Chickasaw Indian family, the Leflore's (LeFleurs) (Chickie LeFlore to be exact.) Her ancestors were relocated to OK from the southeast in the 1800's.

there is a geneaology report that was done in Ireland that shows Richard as being the son Isaac. Yet is also states teh records are confusing as in the same records it shows Richard being the son of Richard. I imagine you are seeking information regarding Isaac Cruc whom married Mary Caldwell in Ireland. That is the only information I have. No dates or anything. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

For all you Cruce's that descend from JAJ Cruce, there is a Cruce Reunion every year. It is helf the 4th Sunday in July, at the Forest Capital State Park on US 19, Perry, FL. We eat at 12:30. It is a pot luck dinner, each family brings a covered dish.
I am told that there is a Cruce Reunion in Alabama the same day, but I am not certain of the details.

I have been doing some work for an old high school friend of mine. I have tracked one line back to John and Margaret BILBERY through their dau Martha. In the 1850 census there is a Candice Cruse listed. Does anyone on this board know anything about her. I saw an old post questioning her but no answer.

1850 District 2, Overton, Tennessee
Household Members: Name Age
John Bilberry 21
Margaret Bilberry 25
Martha Bilberry 4/12
Candice Cruce 52

I have not been successful in tracking the background of Jesse R. Jones. He seems to have come out of South Carolina. I believe he was in Kentucky, and probably knew the Cruce family before they all emigrated to Tennessee. I believe they settled in the Fayette County area. They also traveled with members of the Killough family (Hannah was Hannah Pomeroy Killough) and must have gone down to Marshall County, Mississippi before going on to Texas.

There is at least one published genealogy on the family of Hannah Pomeroy Killough Jones; you could probably Google her name and come up with all sorts of stuff.

As you are probably very much aware, searching for anyone named "Jones" in those early records is a frustrating endeavor. I do have some information in my files at home on the many children of Jesse and Hannah. When I return home in about 3 weeks, send me a reminder e-mail to look up the information for you.

I know there were in Tennessee before moving to Texas. And that they may have been in Alabama before that. But, when did they come to the US, etc.?

Hi,
My name is Melanie Ann Cruce-Rogers, my father is Stephen A.Cruce( b.11/11/1953). His mother was Freida Holt Cruce, and his father was Stephen A. Cruce.(b.4/7/1922 d. 12//11/1961 in Korea. His father was George W. Cruce from Alabama. I dont know if this is the same line or not, But my Uncle did research when he was in College and did find a family crest. So if you are interested please let me know. I thought for a long time, that we were just about the last left. As far as my line goes, the 2 brothers had girls, so the Cruce name stops there. If I would have known then what I know now, My husband would have changed his name (lol).

Thank You,
Melanie
