Unfortunately, Emily sent us the photo asking us to help identify them. We're guessing the date to be around 1890 from the styles. But we could be off by a thousand years or so.

Btw, my wife, Rhonda Taylor Marsh, is Camolean's great granddaughter.

Russ

burial place of Jonathon CRUMLEY (1976-1989).

I know most of us are on here looking for ancestors (myself included but it struck me that I might find some luck this way with Jonathon).

I'm hoping I remember Jonathon's last name correctly as it has been many years. Jonathon was a young man I met at a special camp for children who had cancer in July 1989. We were both 12 years old. Less than a week after the camp ended I met him at St. Jude hospital and we became close if only for the day. I found out 5 months after the appointment that he lost his cancer battle. He influenced my life probably more than any single person could have in such a short period of time. I can't locate him in the SSDI like I can the other friends I have lost to cancer so that is why the concern for his name. If you know of him, I would appreciate an email. For some reason I believe he lived in Tennesse but am unsure. I've always wanted to write a letter to his mom to tell her what her son meant to me as well. If this sounds familiar please let me know. I appreciate any help. Thank you.

Hi there! Thank you for your reply. I have a lot of information about her family, but, I'm specifically looking for HER. Actually, the last time anyone saw her (this comes from her youngest brother) was in 1946. So, I've been trying to figure out where she went, and why she disappeared. All indiators at this point, are leading me to believe she was murdered by Alvin Boyer, who in fact, is not related to me or my father by blood.

Did you know her?

I think it's possible that Loft or Lofty is connected to Emeline Loftis Crumley, but I can't substantiate it in any way. It's harder with the older census records since they didn't record birthplaces.

CRUMLEY death notice online, 1910; bitten by rabid dog

Hi,

I just posted an old newspaper article reporting the death of Lula M. CRUMLEY, wife of F. M. CRUMLEY, of Macon, Georgia. It says she died of "hydrophobia" - she'd been bitten by a rabid dog. Other surnames mentioned (those of married daughters) include STAHLE, BURDEN and DECKER.
This was scanned from an original issue (NOT microfilm!) of The Constitution newspaper (Atlanta, GA) dated September 15, 1910, and you can see it online here:

http://theoldentimes.com/lulacrumley09151910bibbga_1.html

I hope it's helpful!

Barbara
http://theoldentimes.com/old_news_ga.html
http://theoldentimes.com/deaths.htm
http://theoldentimes.com
Barbara, I've seen it spelled a lot of ways. Lawless fits with the phonetics. I've seen Loftis, Loftus, Loftin, Loften, Lofty and even Loftless.

Several of Jesse and Emeline's children married Holts. I think those Holts were from two or three different families, but Winnie and one sister married Holt brothers.

As far as Emeline Loftis, the only thing I've been able to find is a William Lofty who lived three houses away from Jesse Crumley in the 1840 Cocke County Census. However, based on information from that census, I think he was a brother or cousin of Emeline's rather than her father. William Lofty's household lists one male between ages 20 and 30 and none older which we can reasonably assume is William himself, while Jesse's household lists one female between the ages of 20 and 30 and none older, who we know would have been Emeline/Emily. William had moved on by the 1850 census. I haven't been able to definitively find Jesse Crumley any earlier than 1840 either.

So, now you know everything that rest of us researching this family knows about Jesse and Emeline; which is to say, unfortunately, not a whole lot. The only real clues we have are the names of their children, the place we can document that they lived, and that they were both pretty consistent when they named their birthplaces on the census. Jesse consistently stated North Carolina, and Emeline consistently stated South Carolina, but I don't know if anyone has found marriage or birth records for either of them.

My husband great great grandmother was Emma Crumley, sister to Winnie. She married a Jackie Holt first and had several children. He died and then she married Joseph Reed. On Emma's death certificate her maiden is listed as Lawless. We have been unable to find her, could it be because her maiden name was misspelled? Her mother's name was Emma also. Her mother was married to Jesse Crumley. Any information on the parents of Jesse Crumley and his wife, Emma would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Emily Crumley Holt married Joseph Reed 5 Feb. 1890 in Cocke County, Tennessee. She is listed as a daughter of Jesse and Emma Crumley in the Cocke County, Tennessee of 1860 as one year old Emily. In the 1870's Cocke County Census she is listed as Emma age 11. In the 1880's Census she is not listed in Jesse Crumley household. She was proably allready married as she married a Jack Holt before she married Joe Reed. Thanks

Just found a wonderful site done by Christine Crumley Brown
where she transcribed letters written from and to him while he was at the Union front from 1853-1869. He describes what his life was like and names several other people from his section of the country and how they died.
Some are very funny as he describes his superiors and how they led the Union troups.
To get to the site: Go to USGenweb.com
Go to county section: Hit Madison
At bottom see tab: Letters and Memorabilia
this will lead you to the first listing as Crumley
